682da0aa75 cleanup: use MYF() for mysys flags 2013-01-23 16:18:09 +01:00
Michael Widenius
a260b15554 MDEV-4011 Added per thread memory counting and usage
Base code and idea from a patch from by plinux at Taobao.

The idea is that we mark all memory that are thread specific with MY_THREAD_SPECIFIC.
Memory counting is done per thread in the my_malloc_size_cb_func callback function from my_malloc().
There are plenty of new asserts to ensure that for a debug server the counting is correct.

Information_schema.processlist gets two new columns: MEMORY_USED and EXAMINED_ROWS.
- The later is there mainly to show how query is progressing.

The following changes in interfaces was needed to get this to work:
- init_alloc_root() amd init_sql_alloc() has extra option so that one can mark memory with MY_THREAD_SPECIFIC
- One now have to use alloc_root_set_min_malloc() to set min memory to be allocated by alloc_root()
- my_init_dynamic_array() has extra option so that one can mark memory with MY_THREAD_SPECIFIC
- my_net_init() has extra option so that one can mark memory with MY_THREAD_SPECIFIC
- Added flag for hash_init() so that one can mark hash table to be thread specific.
- Added flags to init_tree() so that one can mark tree to be thread specific.
- Removed with_delete option to init_tree(). Now one should instead use MY_TREE_WITH_DELETE_FLAG.
- Added flag to Warning_info::Warning_info() if the structure should be fully initialized.
- String elements can now be marked as thread specific.
- Internal HEAP tables are now marking it's memory as MY_THREAD_SPECIFIC.
- Changed type of myf from int to ulong, as this is always a set of bit flags.

Other things:
- Removed calls to net_end() and thd->cleanup() as these are now done in ~THD()
- We now also show EXAMINED_ROWS in SHOW PROCESSLIST
- Added new variable 'memory_used'
- Fixed bug where kill_threads_for_user() was using the wrong mem_root to allocate memory.
- Removed calls to the obsoleted function init_dynamic_array()
- Use set_current_thd() instead of my_pthread_setspecific_ptr(THR_THD,...)

0eae06c430 Bug#473914: mysql_client_test fail with in debug compilaton on windows x64
Reason: inconsistent compilation, federatedx is compiled without SAFEMALLOC
flag, while anything else is compiled with SAFEMALLOC.

As a consequence, my_hash_init used inside federatedx initialization does not
provide correct caller info parameters (file, line) , so they are initialized with
whatever is on stack. When info about allocated memory is output in
COM_DEBUG command, the server crashes trying to output string starting at
0xcccccccccccccccc.

The fix is to remove SAFEMALLOC preprocessor flags
from every CMakeLists.txt, except the top-level one.

Also, SAFEMALLOC is not defined by default now, instead
there is WITH_DEBUG_FULL CMake option which adds
-DSAFEMALLOC to C and C++ flags in debug compilation.
This option is off by default, because
1) Debug C runtime already has heap debugging builtin with
 overwrite and leak detection
2)safemalloc considerably slows down the tests.

Note also that
- SAFEMALLOC is gone in MySQL5.5
- On Windows, heap related overflows can also be found using free pageheap utility
(that is also part of application verifier). This is even more efficient if there are no other layers
on top of Windows heap allocator, e.g it is most efficient with release version.

8ecda6cd26 _ma_bitmap_unpin_all() needs to unpin not-locked pages which were pinned by other threads
in write_changed_bitmap(), and page cache forbids that. Here we make the page
cache more relaxed. Original patch by Sanja, simplified by me as limited to
not-locked. See comment of ma_bitmap.c.
With that, maria_stress.yy runs until hitting BUG 39665.

storage/maria/ma_bitmap.c:
A thread which unpins bitmap pages in _ma_bitmap_unpin_all() sometimes
hit an assertion in the page cache (info!=0 in remove_pin()) which states
that you can unpin/unlock only what *you* have pinned/locked.
Fixed by setting the new last parameter of pagecache_unlock_by_link()
  to TRUE in _ma_bitmap_unpin_all().
storage/maria/ma_blockrec.c:
new prototype and splitting assertion in three (3rd one fires: BUG 39665)

storage/maria/ma_pagecache.c:
Allow a thread to unpin, with pagecache_unlock_by_link(), a non-locked page pinned by others.
This is a hack for _ma_bitmap_unpin_all() which needs to unpin pages which were
pinned by other threads in write_changed_bitmap().
