Partial documentation due to time constraints. Will improve over time.
Also removed a redundant parameter link_idx from
spider_get_sys_tables_connect_info().
And deleted some commented out code.
All Spider tables are recorded in the system table
mysql.spider_tables. Deleting a spider table removes the corresponding
rows from the system table, among other things. This patch makes it so
that if spider could not find any record in the system table to delete
for a given table, it should correctly report that no such Spider
table exists.
We remove the call to update spider persistent table stats (sts/crd)
in spider_free_share(). This prevents spider from opening and closing
further tables during close(), which fixes the following issues:
MDEV-28739: ha_spider::close() is called during tdc_start_shutdown(),
which is called after query_cache_destroy(). Closing the sts/crd Aria
tables will trigger a call to Query_cache::invalidate_table(), which
will attempt to use the query cache mutex structure_guard_mutex
destroyed previously.
MDEV-29421: during ha_spider::close(), spider_free_share() could
trigger another spider_free_share() through updating sts/crd table,
because open_table() calls tc_add_table(), which could trigger another
ha_spider::close()...
Since spider sts/crd system tables are only updated here, there's no
use for these tables any more, and we remove all uses of these tables
too.
The removal should not cause any performance issue, as in memory
spider table stats are only updated based on a time
interval (spider_sts_interval and spider_crd_interval), which defaults
to 10 seconds. It should not affect accuracy either, due to the
infrequency of server restart. And inaccurate stats are not a problem
for optimizer anyway.
To be on the safe side, we defer the removal of the spider sts/crd
tables themselves to future.
This will avoid issues like MDEV-32486

Extracted out common subroutines, gave more meaningful names etc,
added comments etc.
Also:
- Documented active servers load balancing reads, and other fields in
SPIDER_SHARE etc.
- Removed commented out code
- Documented and refactored self-reference check
- Removed some unnecessary functions
- Renamed unhelpful roop_count
- Refactored spider_get_{sts,crd}, where we turn get_type into an enum
- Cleaned up spider_mbase_handler::show_table_status() and
spider_mbase_handler::show_index()
The server crashed when SPIDER_DIRECT_SQL UDF was called with
non-existing temporary table.
The bug has been introduced by 91ffdc8. The commit removed
the check, from THD::open_temporary_table(), which ensure that
the target temporary tables exist.
We can fix the bug by adding the check before the call of
THD::open_temporary_table().
MDEV-22531 Remove maria::implicit_commit()
MDEV-22607 Assertion `ha_info->ht() != binlog_hton' failed in
MYSQL_BIN_LOG::unlog_xa_prepare
From the handler point of view, Aria now looks like a transactional
engine. One effect of this is that we don't need to call
maria::implicit_commit() anymore.
This change also forces the server to call trans_commit_stmt() after doing
any read or writes to system tables. This work will also make it easier
to later allow users to have system tables in other engines than Aria.
To handle the case that Aria doesn't support rollback, a new
handlerton flag, HTON_NO_ROLLBACK, was added to engines that has
transactions without rollback (for the moment only binlog and Aria).
Other things
- Moved freeing of MARIA_SHARE to a separate function as the MARIA_SHARE
can be still part of a transaction even if the table has closed.
- Changed Aria checkpoint to use the new MARIA_SHARE free function. This
fixes a possible memory leak when using S3 tables
- Changed testing of binlog_hton to instead test for HTON_NO_ROLLBACK
- Removed checking of has_transaction_manager() in handler.cc as we can
assume that as the transaction was started by the engine, it does
support transactions.
- Added new class 'start_new_trans' that can be used to start indepdendent
sub transactions, for example while reading mysql.proc, using help or
status tables etc.
- open_system_tables...() and open_proc_table_for_Read() doesn't anymore
take a Open_tables_backup list. This is now handled by 'start_new_trans'.
- Split thd::has_transactions() to thd::has_transactions() and
thd::has_transactions_and_rollback()
- Added handlerton code to free cached transactions objects.
Needed by InnoDB.

The fields of the temporary table were not created in create_tmp_table function. Because item->const_item() was true. But the temporary tables that is created by Spider are always used all columns. So Spider should call create_tmp_table function with TMP_TABLE_ALL_COLUMNS flag.
The fix for this bug was automatically merged from 10.2. However, that fix
was incomplete in 10.3. This commit is for the additional changes that are
necessary in 10.3.
