1f040ae048 MDEV-34043 Drastically slower query performance between CentOS (2sec) and Rocky (48sec)
One cause of the slowdown is because the ftruncate call can be much
slower on some systems. ftruncate() is called by Aria for internal
temporary tables, tables created by the optimizer, when the upper level
asks Aria to delete the previous result set. This is needed when some
content from previous tables changes.

I have now changed Aria so that for internal temporary tables we don't
call ftruncate() anymore for maria_delete_all_rows().

I also had to update the Aria repair code to use the logical datafile
size and not the on-disk datafile size, which may contain data from a
previous result set. The repair code is called to create indexes for
the internal temporary table after it is filled.
I also replaced a call to mysql_file_size() with a pwrite() in
_ma_bitmap_create_first().

33964984ad MDEV-34522 Index for (specific) Aria table is created as corrupted
The issue was that when repairing an Aria table of row format PAGE and
the data file was bigger the 4G, the data file length was cut short
because of wrong parameters to MY_ALIGN().

The effect was that ALTER TABLE, OPTIMIZE TABLE or REPAIR TABLE would fail
on these tables, possibly corrupting them.
The MDEV also exposed a bug where error state was not propagated properly
to the upper level if the number of rows in the table changed.

38cbef8b3f MDEV-22935 Erroneous Aria Index / Optimizer behaviour
The problem was in the Aria part of the range optimizer,
maria_records_in_range(), which wrong concluded that there was no rows
in the range.

This error would happen in the unlikely case when searching for a range
on a partial key and there was a match for the first key part in the
upper part of the b-tree (node) and also a match in the underlying
node page.

In other words, for this bug to happen one have to use Aria, have a multi
part key with a lot of identical values for the first key part and do a
range search on the second part of the key.

Fixed by ensuring that we do not stop searching for partial keys found
on node.

Other things:
- Added some comments
- Changed a variable name to more clearly explain it's purpose.
- Fixed wrong cast in _ma_record_pos() that could cause problems on 32 bit
  systems.

ec6aa9ac42 MDEV-34055 Assertion '...' failure or corruption errors upon REPAIR on Aria tables
The problem was two fold:
- REPAIR TABLE t1 USE_FRM did not work for transactional
  Aria tables (Table was thought to be repaired, which it was not) which
  caused issues in later usage of the table.
- When swapping tmp_data file to data file, sort_info files where not
  updated. This caused problems if there was several unique keys and
  there was a duplicate for the second key.

55cb2c2916 MDEV-29955: Set path for zlib library with pkg-config
`FindZLIB` module uses variable `ZLIB_ROOT`[1] to look for libraries. By
setting the variable, `FindZLIB` is able to search the libraries that
installed in a non-system path (/workspace/mylib for example).

And when using `z` in `LINK_LIBRARIES()` CMake tries to lookup the
library in system path by default. It doesn't work if the library isn't
installed in the path, and use ${ZLIB_LIBRARY} which set by FindZLIB
solve the issue.

c73c6aea63 MDEV-33426: Aria temptables wrong thread-specific memory accounting in slave thread
Aria temporary tables account allocated memory as specific to the current
THD. But this fails for slave threads, where the temporary tables need to be
detached from any specific THD.

Introduce a new flag to mark temporary tables in replication as "global",
and use that inside Aria to not account memory allocations as thread
specific for such tables.

Based on original suggestion by Monty.

0381921e26 MDEV-33277 In-place upgrade causes invalid AUTO_INCREMENT values
MDEV-33308 CHECK TABLE is modifying .frm file even if --read-only

As noted in commit d0ef1aaf61,
MySQL as well as older versions of MariaDB server would during
ALTER TABLE ... IMPORT TABLESPACE write bogus values to the
PAGE_MAX_TRX_ID field to pages of the clustered index, instead of
letting that field remain 0.
In commit 8777458a6e this field
was repurposed for PAGE_ROOT_AUTO_INC in the clustered index root page.

To avoid trouble when upgrading from MySQL or older versions of MariaDB,
we will try to detect and correct bogus values of PAGE_ROOT_AUTO_INC
when opening a table for the first time from the SQL layer.

btr_read_autoinc_with_fallback(): Add the parameters to mysql_version,max
to indicate the TABLE_SHARE::mysql_version of the .frm file and the
maximum value allowed for the type of the AUTO_INCREMENT column.
In case the table was originally created in MySQL or an older version of
MariaDB, read also the maximum value of the AUTO_INCREMENT column from
the table and reset the PAGE_ROOT_AUTO_INC if it is above the limit.

dict_table_t::get_index(const dict_col_t &) const: Find an index that
starts with the specified column.

ha_innobase::check_for_upgrade(): Return HA_ADMIN_FAILED if InnoDB
needs upgrading but is in read-only mode. In this way, the call to
update_frm_version() will be skipped.

row_import_autoinc(): Adjust the AUTO_INCREMENT column at the end of
ALTER TABLE...IMPORT TABLESPACE. This refinement was suggested by
Debarun Banerjee.

The changes outside InnoDB were developed by Michael 'Monty' Widenius:

Added print_check_msg() service for easy reporting of check/repair messages
in ENGINE=Aria and ENGINE=InnoDB.
Fixed that CHECK TABLE do not update the .frm file under --read-only.
Added 'handler_flags' to HA_CHECK_OPT as a way for storage engines to
store state from handler::check_for_upgrade().

df72c57d6f MDEV-30048 Prefix keys for CHAR work differently for MyISAM vs InnoDB
Also fixes: MDEV-30050 Inconsistent results of DISTINCT with NOPAD

Problem:

Key segments for CHAR columns where compared using strnncollsp()
for engines MyISAM and Aria.

This did not work correct in case if the engine applyied trailing
space compression.

Fix:

Replacing ha_compare_text() calls to new functions:

- ha_compare_char_varying()
- ha_compare_char_fixed()
- ha_compare_word()
- ha_compare_word_prefix()
- ha_compare_word_or_prefix()

The code branch corresponding to comparison of CHAR column keys
(HA_KEYTYPE_TEXT segment type) now uses ha_compare_char_fixed()
which calls strnncollsp_nchars().

This patch does not change the behavior for the rest of the code:
- comparison of VARCHAR/TEXT column keys
  (HA_KEYTYPE_VARTEXT1, HA_KEYTYPE_VARTEXT2 segments types)
- comparison in the fulltext code

57c526ffb8 Added detection of memory overwrite with multi_malloc
This patch also fixes some bugs detected by valgrind after this
patch:

- Not enough copy_func elements was allocated by Create_tmp_table() which
  causes an memory overwrite in Create_tmp_table::add_fields()
  I added an ASSERT() to be able to detect this also without valgrind.
  The bug was that TMP_TABLE_PARAM::copy_fields was not correctly set
  when calling create_tmp_table().
- Aria::empty_bits is not allocated if there is no varchar/char/blob
  fields in the table. Fixed code to take this into account.
  This cannot cause any issues as this is just a memory access
  into other Aria memory and the content of the memory would not be used.
- Aria::last_key_buff was not allocated big enough. This may have caused
  issues with rtrees and ma_extra(HA_EXTRA_REMEMBER_POS) as they
  would use the same memory area.
- Aria and MyISAM didn't take extended key parts into account, which
  caused problems when copying rec_per_key from engine to sql level.
- Mark asan builds with 'asan' in version strihng to detect these in
  not_valgrind_build.inc.
  This is needed to not have main.sp-no-valgrind fail with asan.

08c852026d Apply clang-tidy to remove empty constructors / destructors
This patch is the result of running
run-clang-tidy -fix -header-filter=.* -checks='-*,modernize-use-equals-default' .

Code style changes have been done on top. The result of this change
leads to the following improvements:

1. Binary size reduction.
* For a -DBUILD_CONFIG=mysql_release build, the binary size is reduced by
  ~400kb.
* A raw -DCMAKE_BUILD_TYPE=Release reduces the binary size by ~1.4kb.

2. Compiler can better understand the intent of the code, thus it leads
   to more optimization possibilities. Additionally it enabled detecting
   unused variables that had an empty default constructor but not marked
   so explicitly.

   Particular change required following this patch in sql/opt_range.cc

   result_keys, an unused template class Bitmap now correctly issues
   unused variable warnings.

   Setting Bitmap template class constructor to default allows the compiler
   to identify that there are no side-effects when instantiating the class.
   Previously the compiler could not issue the warning as it assumed Bitmap
   class (being a template) would not be performing a NO-OP for its default
   constructor. This prevented the "unused variable warning".

a compile-time option was introduced to disable the macros

The parameter name WITH_DBUG_TRACE would hint that it also

shall disable DBUG_PRINT() as well.

A few InnoDB recovery tests used to check that some output from

54e501cf04 MDEV-28757 S3 tables can hang in SELECT
If we got a read error from S3, we did not signal threads waiting
to read blocks in the read-range. This caused these threads to
hang forever.

There is still one issue left that the S3 error will be logged as an
'table is crashed' error instead of the IO error. This will be fixed
by a larger patch in 10.6 that improves error reporting from Aria.

There is no test case for this as it is very hard to repeat.
I tested this with a patch that causes random read failures in S3
used perl multi-threaded test with 8 threads to simulate reads.
This patch fixes all found hangs.
