52db2f3646 Bug #34777 mysqlbinlog: --help output for --base64-output is hard to understand
There are some problems about help text:
- It is stated that "auto" is the default twice. It need be stated only once.
- It is stated that --base64-output is short for --base64-output=always. But that sounds
like the default is "always", not "auto".

Make the help text clear as following:
Determine when the output statements should be base64-encoded BINLOG
statements: 'never' disables it and works only for binlogs without
row-based events; 'auto' prints base64 only when necessary (i.e.,
for row-based events and format description events); 'always' prints
base64 whenever possible. 'always' is for debugging only and should
not be used in a production system. If this argument is not given,
the default is 'auto'; if it is given with no argument, 'always' is used.

5ef63a4f1c Bug#28141: Control C on query waiting on lock causes ERROR 1053 (server shutdown)
If a thread is killed in the server, we throw "shutdown" only if one is actually in
progress; otherwise, we throw "query interrupted".

Control-C in the mysql command-line client is "incremental" now.
First Control-C sends KILL QUERY (when connected to 5.0+ server, otherwise, see next)
Next Control-C sends KILL CONNECTION
Next Control-C aborts client.

As the first two steps only pertain to an existing query,
Control-C will abort the client right away if no query is running.

client will give more detailed/consistent feedback on Control-C now.

client/mysql.cc:
Extends Control-C handling; enhances up feedback to user.

On 5.0+ servers, we try to be nice and send KILL QUERY first
if Control-C is pressed in the command-line client, but if
that doesn't work, we now give the user the opportunity to
send KILL CONNECTION with another Control-C (and to kill the
client with another Control-C if that somehow doesn't work
  either).
mysql-test/t/flush_read_lock_kill.test:
we're getting correct "thread killed" rather than
  "in shutdown" error now
mysql-test/t/kill.test:
we're getting correct "thread killed" rather than
  "in shutdown" error now
mysql-test/t/rpl000001.test:
we're getting correct "thread killed" rather than
  "in shutdown" error now
mysql-test/t/rpl_error_ignored_table.test:
we're getting correct "thread killed" rather than
  "in shutdown" error now
sql/records.cc:
make error messages on KILL uniform for rr_*()
by folding that handling into rr_handle_error()
sql/sql_class.h:
  Only throw "shutdown" when we have one flagged as being in progress;
otherwise, throw "query interrupted" as it's likely to be "KILL CONNECTION"
  or related.

2397e6593d Backporting patch for Bug#38992 from 6.0.
Original revision:

message:
Fix for Bug#38992: Server crashes sporadically with
'waiting for initial ...' msg on windows.

The problem is that connection timeout is too small
  for busy windows box.

  The fix is to
    - add support for connect_timeout command line argument
      to mysqltest;
    - set default value of the connect_timeout option to
      120 seconds.

3138ee3be1 Backport of 2617.65.4 from 6.0-codebase.
A fix and a test case for Bug#34898 "mysql_info() reports 0 warnings
while mysql_warning_count() reports 1"

Review the patch by Chad Miller, implement review comments
(since Chad left) and push the patch.

This bug is actually not a bug. At least according to Monty.
See Bug#841 "wrong number of warnings" reported back in July 2003
and closed as "not a bug".
mysql_info() was printing the number of truncated columns, not
the number of warnings.
But since the message of mysql_info() was "Warnings: <number of truncated
columns>", people would expect to get the number
of warnings in it, not the number of truncated columns.

So a possible fix would be to change the message of mysql_info()
to say Rows changed: <n>, truncated: <m>.

Instead, put the number of warnings there. That is, remove the
feature that thd->cuted_fields (the number of truncated fields)
is exposed to the client. The number of truncated columns can be
calculated on the client, by analyzing SHOW WARNINGS output,
and in future we may remove thd->cuted_fields altogether.
So let's have one less thing to worry about.

client/mysqltest.cc:
Fix a bug in mysqltest program which used to return
a wrong number of affected rows in ps-protocol, and a wrong
mysql_info() information in both protocols in presence of warnings.
mysql-test/r/insert.result:
  Update results (Bug#34898)
mysql-test/suite/rpl/r/rpl_udf.result:
Update to the changed output of mysqltest: mysql_info() is now printed
  before warnings.
mysql-test/t/insert.test:
Add a test case for Bug#34898.
sql/sql_table.cc:
A fix for Bug#34898 - report statement warn count, not the
number of truncated values in mysql_info().
sql/sql_update.cc:
A fix for Bug#34898 - report statement warn count, not the
number of truncated values in mysql_info().

message:
Fix for Bug#40128: drop-no_root fails under windows in 6.0-rpl.

The problem was that directories with no permission (000) files
are deleted differently on UNIX and on Windows.

On UNIX, 000-permission file is deleted perfectly, but other files
  are left in the directory.

On Windows, 000-permission file is not deleted, but other files
  are deleted.

Also, the fix needed a change in mysqltest.c: 'chmod' directive
should return a positive error code (in order to be handled).
It's decided to return a constant '1' for all error codes
  just to be OS-independent.

bb6953d1d8 Backport BUG#38468 Memory leak detected when using mysqlbinlog utility
There were two memory leaks in mysqlbinlog command, one was already
fixed by previous patches, another one was that defaults_argv was
set to the value of argv after parse_args, in which called
handle_options after calling load_defaults and changed the value
of argv, and caused the memory allocated for defaults arguments
not freed.

Fixed the problem by setting defaults_argv right after calling
load_defaults.

CMakeLists.txt files cleanup
- remove SAFEMALLOC and SAFE_MUTEX definitions that were
present in *each* CMakeLists.txt. Instead, put them into top level
CMakeLists.txt, but disable on Windows, because
a) SAFEMALLOC does not add any functionality that is not already
present in Debug C runtime ( and 2 safe malloc one on top of the other
only unnecessarily slows down the server)

b)SAFE_MUTEX does not work on Windows and have been
explicitely disabled on Windows with #undef previously. Fortunately,
ntdll does pretty good job identifying l problems with
CRITICAL_SECTIONs.
DebugBreak()s on using uninited critical section, unlocking unowned

anyway)

12e822039d Fix for BUG#42980 "Client doesn't set NUM_FLAG for DECIMAL and TIMESTAMP":
DECIMAL and TIMESTAMP used to have NUM_FLAG, but NEWDECIMAL was forgotten.
It's correct that TIMESTAMP does not have the flag nowadays (manual will be updated, connectors
developers will be notified).

client/mysqldump.c:
IS_NUM_FIELD(f) removed and replaced by its definition (f>flags & NUM_FLAG).
include/mysql.h:
  - IS_NUM_FIELD() is removed because name is too close to IS_NUM() and it is not used a lot
  - INTERNAL_NUM_FIELD() is removed:
    * it forgets to test NEWDECIMAL (when IS_NUM() was updated for NEWDECIMAL we forgot
to update INTERNAL_NUM_FIELD()), that's why client didn't mark NEWDECIMAL with NUM_FLAG (a bug).
    * it has an obsolete test for length of the TIMESTAMP field: test became accidentally wrong when length
of TIMESTAMP was changed to always be 19 (when the format was changed from YYYYMMDDhhmmss to
YYYY-MM-DD hh:mm:ss), never 8 or 14 anymore. That obsolete test caused TIMESTAMP to lose NUM_FLAG,
which was an accidental but good change (see below).
    * IS_NUM() should be used instead
  - IS_NUM(f) is changed: TIMESTAMP used to be parsable as a number without quotes (when it was formatted as
"YYYYMMDDhhmmss"); but it is not anymore (now that it is "YYYY-MM-DD hh:mm:ss"), so it should not have NUM_FLAG
(mysqldump needs to quote TIMESTAMP values), so IS_NUM() should return false for it.

Cleanup CMakeLists.txt(s) - remove winsock2 (ws2_32) from
TARGET_LINK_LIBRARIES.

Every exe or dll linked with mysys needs ws2_32, because
mysys uses winsock function WSAStartup in my_init().
However, there is no need to explicitely add ws2_32 to
the list of TARGET_LINK_LIBRARIES multiple times.
Visual Studio comes with a handy pragma that tells linker
to add library. So patch replaces bunch of ws2_32 in
CMakeLists with single pragma comment(lib,"ws2_32")
in my_init.c

Additionally, reference to non-existing "debug" library
has been removed from TARGET_LINK_LIBRARIES. The correct
name of the library is "dbug".

2bc1930c6c Windows improvements : manual backport of
htttp://lists.mysql.com/commits/50957?f=plain

Always use TLS functions instead of __declspec(thread) to access
thread local storage variables.
The change removes the necessity to recomplile the same source
files twice - with USE_TLS for DLLs and without USE_TLS for EXEs.
Real benefit of this change is better readability and maintainability
of TLS functions within MySQL.

There is a performance loss using TlsXXX functions compared to __declspec
but the difference is negligible in practice. In a sysbench-like benchmark
I ran with with TlsGetValue, pthread_[get|set]_specific was called 600000000
times and took 0.17sec of total 35min CPU time, or 0.008%.

--write-binlog and --skip-write-binlog options are added into mysql_upgrade.
These options control whether sql statements are binlogged or not.

Option "--without-server" still not working in 5.1

The general approach is to make sure that source files
which require thread support are only compiled if the build
really needs thread support,
which means when the server is built or a thread-safe client
library.

This required several changes:
- Make sure the subdirectories "storage/" and "plugin/" are
only processed if the server is built, not ifclient-only.
- Make the compilation of some modules which inherently
require threading depend on thread supportin the build.
- Separate the handling of threading in "configure.in" from
that of server issues, threading is also needed in a
  non-server build of a thread-safe client library.

Also, "libdbug" must get built even in a client-only build,
so "dbug/" must be in the list of client directories.

In addition, calls to thread functions in source files which
can be built without thread support must use the wrapper
functions which handle the non-threaded build.
So the modules "client/mysqlimport.c" and "client/mysqlslap.c"
must call "my_thread_end()" only via "mysql_thread_end()".

Makefile.am:
The directories "storage/" and "plugin/" contain files
which are needed for the server only, so their contents
is to be built only if a server is built.

They must not be named unconditionally, because building
their contents will fail unless threads are enabled.

These directories are now listed in the "configure"
variable "sql_server_dirs" which becomes part of
"sql_union_dirs" if the server is to be built.
client/mysqlimport.c:
Use the wrapper function "mysql_thread_end()" which
correctly handles the case of a non-threaded build.
client/mysqlslap.c:
Use the wrapper function "mysql_thread_end()" which
correctly handles the case of a non-threaded build.
configure.in:
Various changes to support builds "--without-server":

  1) For the unit tests, we need "libdbug".

  2) Separate the treatment of the server from that of the
     thread-safe client library.

  3) Introduce an "automake conditional" "NEED_THREAD"
which can be checked in some "Makefile.am".

  4) Include "storage/" and "plugin/" in the list of
"sql_server_dirs" so that they are handled in the
top "Makefile.am" only if the server is to be built
(see the change in that file).
mysys/Makefile.am:
The code of "mf_keycache.c" in 5.1 is no longer safe
to be built without thread support.
  (In 5.0, this was possible.)

Rather than fix these issues, which is tedious and risky,
avoid the need to ever build it without thread support:
It is needed in the server only, which needs thread support.

The only case where we build a "libmysys" without thread
support is for a non-threaded client, where "mf_keycache"
  is not neded.
So its inclusion in the list of source files can depend
  on the new conditional "NEED_THREAD".
unittest/mysys/Makefile.am:
Test program "my_atomic-t" is to verify the correct handling
of threads only, it cannot be built without thread support
and is not needed in such cases either.

Let its build depend on the new conditional "NEED_THREAD".
