f46dba5a5f Bug #43397 mysql headers redefine pthread_mutex_init
unnecessarily

The problem is that libmysqlclient.so is built with THREAD
undefined, while a client compiling against the same header
files will see THREAD as defined and definitions in
my_pthread.h will be included, possibly resulting in undefined
symbols that cannot be resolved with libmysqlclient.so.

The suggested solution is to require that clients wanting to
link with libmysqlclient.so should be built with
MYSQL_CLIENT_NO_THREADS defined. This requires a documentation
change, and more details for this will be supplied if this
patch is approved.

The MYSQL_CLIENT_NO_THREADS define was renamed from
UNDEF_THREADS_HACK, to get a more suitable (less suspicious)
name for the define. (The UNDEF_THREADS_HACK is retained for
backwards compatibility, though.)

This patch is also in anticipation of WL#4958, which will
remove this problem altogether by dropping the building of
libmysqlclient.

82c4059fc9 Fix for bug #32221: bug25714, mytest, mysql_client_test complaints and
crashes.

MySQL distributions contain a number of programs that are used only by
the MySQL test suite internally, i.e. they are not indended to be
invoked directly by a user. As a result, such programs are not
documented, do not have any built-in help or proper error reporting,
which may confuse users.

This patch fixes the problem with the following changes:
- mytest, libmysqltest and all references to them were removed from the
distribution since they are not used anymore
- bug25714 now displays an error message when run with incorrect
arguments or with the --help option
- mysql_client_test now does not call abort() in case of errors,
instead it does a clean exit() with a proper error status.

569d3c8488 WL#1518, "make bundled zlib usable for unix builds":
required autotools macro written and deployed in all apropriate Makefile.ams.
Use cases checked:
- linux, standard location of zlib, no ndb
- linux, standard locatoin of zlib, with ndb
- linux, non-standard location of zlib, no ndb
- hpux11, use of bundled zlib, no ndb
The only non-checked case is non-standard location of zlib (or use of bundled
zlib) + ndb. I wasn't able to check it as ndb/ just won't compile on beasts
like AIX52 or HPUX11, where such a check is possible. It didn't compile
there before as these systems dont't have installed zlib, so nothing got broken ;)

853c3dd77f - added libmysql/client_settings.h to distribution 2003-06-19 10:46:45 +02:00
hf@deer.(none)
02d3d7e8bd SCRUM:
Here is another pack of changes about gathering common client code in
sql-common/client.c.
Now i symlink the client.c from sql/ and libmysql/. These directories
have client_settings.h files to be included to client.c. It contains
defines and declarations to compile client.c in appropriate manner.
Also i've added include/sql_common.h, containing declarations of what
is exported from client.c

I removed as many #ifdef-s from client.c as i dared to. I think it's better
push it with some extra #ifdef-s now (of course, if everythihg besides it is
ok) so other people can check the code.
