6eb797f973 BUG #8368 "mysqldump needs --slave-data option"
Added this option, named as "--dump-slave". The purpose of this option is to be
able to produce a dump from a slave used for making backups of the master. Originally,
dumping from the main master was fine, but as more data accumulated, the dump process
would take over 30 minutes, locking up the master database hence website for 30 minutes.
A slave dedicated to producing backups was the answer, but I needed a dump that could be

used to restore a slave instantly and in order to do that, it has to have three things
contained in the dump:

  1. "STOP SLAVE;" at the beginning
  2. "CHANGE MASTER TO ...<the master - info from 'show slave status'>"
  3. "START SLAVE;" at the end

These options in this changeset contain this.

--stop-slave adds "STOP SLAVE" to the beginning of the dump and "STOP SLAVE"
to the end of the dump.

--include-host gives the user the option to have the host explicitely added
to the "CHANGE MASTER TO ..." line.

--dump-slave adds the "CHANGE MASTER ..." to the dump representing not the slave's
master binlog info, but the slave's master's info from "SHOW SLAVE STATUS"

e30e0b7c7d Bug#26780: automatic vertical output for wide results
Feature from Eric Bergen, CLA signed 2007-06-27.

Adds new mysql client option "--auto-vertical-output", which causes
the client to test whether a result table is too wide for the current
window (where available) and emit vertical results in that case.
Otherwise, it sends normal tabular results.

6e916e03bd Bug#35224: mysqldump --help is very confusing
The presence of "--skip" parameters is obscure, when it should be
obvious from the text.

Now, for boolean options, when they're default to ON and the --skip
is more useful parameter, then tell the user of its existence.

2f075a1e37 Bug #47423 mtr connects to wrong database
The reason for the bug is that mysqtest as well as other client tools
running in test suite (mysqlbinlog, mysqldump) will first try to connect
whatever database has created shared memory with default base name
"MySQL" and use this. (Same effect could be seen on Unix if mtr would
not care to calculate "port" and "socket" parameter).

The fix ensures that all client tools and running in mtr use unique
per-database shared memory base parameters, so there is no possibility
to clash with already installed one. We use socket name for shared memory
base (it's known to be unique). This shared-memory-base is written to the
MTR config file to the [client] and [mysqld] sections. Fix made also made
sure all client tools understand and correctly handle --shared-memory-base.
Prior to this patch it was not the case for mysqltest, mysqlbinlog and
mysql_client_test.

All new connections done from mtr scripts via connect() will by default
set shared-memory-base. And finally, there is a possibility to force
shared memory or pipe connection and overwrite shared memory/pipe base name
from within mtr scripts via optional PIPE or SHM modifier. This functionality
was manually backported from 6.0

a0d5521f06 Bug#47655: Memory free error when connecting to 4.1 server from 5.1+ client
When starting the (5.1+) mysql command-line client, we try to get
"select @@version_comment" from the server to present it to the
user. Recent clients are aware that older servers do not have that
variable and fall back on other info to be able to present *something*
at least. This fallback string was allocated through the POSIX interface,
but released through the my*() suite, which rightfully complained about
the imbalance in calls when compiled with --debug. While this wasn't
as bad as it looked (no double-free, use of uninitialized or freed
buffer, etc.), it did look funky.

Using my_strdup() now for what will be my_free()d later.

a0791a4183 Bug #34777 mysqlbinlog: --help output for --base64-output is hard to understand
There are some problems about help text:
- It is stated that "auto" is the default twice. It need be stated only once.
- It is stated that --base64-output is short for --base64-output=always. But that sounds
like the default is "always", not "auto".

Make the help text clear as following:
Determine when the output statements should be base64-encoded BINLOG
statements: 'never' disables it and works only for binlogs without
row-based events; 'auto' prints base64 only when necessary (i.e.,
for row-based events and format description events); 'always' prints
base64 whenever possible. 'always' is for debugging only and should
not be used in a production system. If this argument is not given,
the default is 'auto'; if it is given with no argument, 'always' is used.

3f42e4bd24 Bug#28141: Control C on query waiting on lock causes ERROR 1053 (server shutdown)
If a thread is killed in the server, we throw "shutdown" only if one is actually in
progress; otherwise, we throw "query interrupted".

Control-C in the mysql command-line client is "incremental" now.
First Control-C sends KILL QUERY (when connected to 5.0+ server, otherwise, see next)
Next Control-C sends KILL CONNECTION
Next Control-C aborts client.

As the first two steps only pertain to an existing query,
Control-C will abort the client right away if no query is running.

client will give more detailed/consistent feedback on Control-C now.

Fix for Bug#38992: Server crashes sporadically with
'waiting for initial ...' msg on windows.

The problem is that connection timeout is too small

    - add support for connect_timeout command line argument
      to mysqltest;
    - set default value of the connect_timeout option to
      120 seconds.

8441517b52 Backport of 2617.65.4 from 6.0-codebase.
A fix and a test case for Bug#34898 "mysql_info() reports 0 warnings
while mysql_warning_count() reports 1"

Review the patch by Chad Miller, implement review comments
(since Chad left) and push the patch.

This bug is actually not a bug. At least according to Monty.
See Bug#841 "wrong number of warnings" reported back in July 2003
and closed as "not a bug".
mysql_info() was printing the number of truncated columns, not
the number of warnings.
But since the message of mysql_info() was "Warnings: <number of truncated
columns>", people would expect to get the number
of warnings in it, not the number of truncated columns.

So a possible fix would be to change the message of mysql_info()
to say Rows changed: <n>, truncated: <m>.

Instead, put the number of warnings there. That is, remove the
feature that thd->cuted_fields (the number of truncated fields)
is exposed to the client. The number of truncated columns can be
calculated on the client, by analyzing SHOW WARNINGS output,
and in future we may remove thd->cuted_fields altogether.
So let's have one less thing to worry about.

revno: 2599.108.1
committer: Alexander Nozdrin <alik@sun.com>

message:
Fix for Bug#40128: drop-no_root fails under windows in 6.0-rpl.

The problem was that directories with no permission (000) files
are deleted differently on UNIX and on Windows.

On UNIX, 000-permission file is deleted perfectly, but other files
  are left in the directory.

On Windows, 000-permission file is not deleted, but other files
  are deleted.

Also, the fix needed a change in mysqltest.c: 'chmod' directive
should return a positive error code (in order to be handled).
It's decided to return a constant '1' for all error codes
  just to be OS-independent.

4354cfd404 Backport BUG#38468 Memory leak detected when using mysqlbinlog utility
There were two memory leaks in mysqlbinlog command, one was already
fixed by previous patches, another one was that defaults_argv was
set to the value of argv after parse_args, in which called
handle_options after calling load_defaults and changed the value
of argv, and caused the memory allocated for defaults arguments
not freed.

Fixed the problem by setting defaults_argv right after calling
load_defaults.

CMakeLists.txt files cleanup
- remove SAFEMALLOC and SAFE_MUTEX definitions that were
present in *each* CMakeLists.txt. Instead, put them into top level
CMakeLists.txt, but disable on Windows, because
a) SAFEMALLOC does not add any functionality that is not already
present in Debug C runtime ( and 2 safe malloc one on top of the other
only unnecessarily slows down the server)

b)SAFE_MUTEX does not work on Windows and have been
explicitely disabled on Windows with #undef previously. Fortunately,
ntdll does pretty good job identifying l problems with
CRITICAL_SECTIONs.
DebugBreak()s on using uninited critical section, unlocking unowned
critical section)

-Also, remove occationally used -D_DEBUG (added by compiler
anyway)

http://lists.mysql.com/commits/57725

Vladislav Vaintroub	2008-11-03
Cleanup CMakeLists.txt(s) - remove winsock2 (ws2_32) from
TARGET_LINK_LIBRARIES.

Every exe or dll linked with mysys needs ws2_32, because
mysys uses winsock function WSAStartup in my_init().
However, there is no need to explicitely add ws2_32 to
the list of TARGET_LINK_LIBRARIES multiple times.
Visual Studio comes with a handy pragma that tells linker
to add library. So patch replaces bunch of ws2_32 in
CMakeLists with single pragma comment(lib,"ws2_32")
in my_init.c

Additionally, reference to non-existing "debug" library
has been removed from TARGET_LINK_LIBRARIES. The correct
name of the library is "dbug".

e6090f10bb Windows improvements : manual backport of
htttp://lists.mysql.com/commits/50957?f=plain

Always use TLS functions instead of __declspec(thread) to access
thread local storage variables.
The change removes the necessity to recomplile the same source
files twice - with USE_TLS for DLLs and without USE_TLS for EXEs.
Real benefit of this change is better readability and maintainability
of TLS functions within MySQL.

There is a performance loss using TlsXXX functions compared to __declspec
but the difference is negligible in practice. In a sysbench-like benchmark
I ran with with TlsGetValue, pthread_[get|set]_specific was called 600000000
times and took 0.17sec of total 35min CPU time, or 0.008%.

90d4b21d1d BUG#43579 mysql_upgrade tries to alter log tables on replicated database
All statements executed by mysql_upgrade are binlogged and then are replicated to slave.
This will result in some errors. The report of this bug has demonstrated some examples.

Master and slave should be upgraded separately. All statements executed by
mysql_upgrade will not be binlogged.
--write-binlog and --skip-write-binlog options are added into mysql_upgrade.
These options control whether sql statements are binlogged or not.

67bcf54df6 Fix bug#46980
Option "--without-server" still not working in 5.1

The general approach is to make sure that source files
which require thread support are only compiled if the build
really needs thread support,
which means when the server is built or a thread-safe client
library.

This required several changes:
- Make sure the subdirectories "storage/" and "plugin/" are
only processed if the server is built, not ifclient-only.
- Make the compilation of some modules which inherently
require threading depend on thread supportin the build.
- Separate the handling of threading in "configure.in" from
that of server issues, threading is also needed in a
  non-server build of a thread-safe client library.

Also, "libdbug" must get built even in a client-only build,
so "dbug/" must be in the list of client directories.

In addition, calls to thread functions in source files which
can be built without thread support must use the wrapper
functions which handle the non-threaded build.
So the modules "client/mysqlimport.c" and "client/mysqlslap.c"
must call "my_thread_end()" only via "mysql_thread_end()".

4e92af9f43 This is the downport of
Bug#24509 - 2048 file descriptor limit on windows needs increasing, also
WL#3049 - improved Windows I/O

The patch replaces the use of the POSIX I/O interfaces in mysys on Windows with
the Win32 API calls (CreateFile, WriteFile, etc). The Windows HANDLE for the open
file is stored in the my_file_info struct, along with a flag for append mode
because the Windows API does not support opening files in append mode in all cases)
The default max open files has been increased to 16384 and can be increased further
by setting --max-open-files=<value> during the server start.

Another major change in this patch that almost all Windows specific file IO code
has been moved to a new file my_winfile.c, greatly reducing the amount of code
in #ifdef blocks within mysys, thus improving readability.

Minor enhancements:
- my_(f)stat() is changed to use __stati64 structure with 64 file size
and timestamps. It will return correct file size now (C runtime implementation
used to report outdated information)
- my_lock on Windows is prepared to handle additional timeout parameter
- after review : changed __WIN__ to _WIN32 in the new and changed code.

4a9e7e8e25 Fix for BUG#46591 - .frm file isn't sync'd with sync_frm enabled for
CREATE TABLE...LIKE...

The mysql server option 'sync_frm' is ignored when table is created with

Fixed by adding the MY_SYNC flag and calling my_sync() from my_copy() when

In mysql_create_table(), when the 'sync_frm' is set, MY_SYNC flag is passed
to my_copy().

e642140b18 Bug# 30946: mysqldump silently ignores --default-character-set
when used with --tab

1) New syntax: added CHARACTER SET clause to the
SELECT ... INTO OUTFILE (to complement the same clause in
  LOAD DATA INFILE).
mysqldump is updated to use this in --tab mode.

2) ESCAPED BY/ENCLOSED BY field parameters are documented as
accepting CHAR argument, however SELECT .. INTO OUTFILE
silently ignored rests of multisymbol arguments.
For the symmetrical behavior with LOAD DATA INFILE the
server has been modified to fail with the same error:

ERROR 42000: Field separator argument is not what is
                  expected; check the manual

3) Current LOAD DATA INFILE recognizes field/line separators
"as is" without converting from client charset to data
file charset. So, it is supposed, that input file of
LOAD DATA INFILE consists of data in one charset and
separators in other charset. For the compatibility with
that [buggy] behaviour SELECT INTO OUTFILE implementation
has been saved "as is" too, but the new warning message
   has been added:

Non-ASCII separator arguments are not fully supported

This message warns on field/line separators that contain
   non-ASCII symbols.

f46dba5a5f Bug #43397 mysql headers redefine pthread_mutex_init
unnecessarily

The problem is that libmysqlclient.so is built with THREAD
undefined, while a client compiling against the same header
files will see THREAD as defined and definitions in
my_pthread.h will be included, possibly resulting in undefined
symbols that cannot be resolved with libmysqlclient.so.

The suggested solution is to require that clients wanting to
link with libmysqlclient.so should be built with
MYSQL_CLIENT_NO_THREADS defined. This requires a documentation
change, and more details for this will be supplied if this
patch is approved.

The MYSQL_CLIENT_NO_THREADS define was renamed from
UNDEF_THREADS_HACK, to get a more suitable (less suspicious)
name for the define. (The UNDEF_THREADS_HACK is retained for
backwards compatibility, though.)

This patch is also in anticipation of WL#4958, which will
remove this problem altogether by dropping the building of
libmysqlclient.

025ca02f28 Bug #41943: mysqlbinlog.exe crashes if --hexdump option is used
The --hexdump option crashed mysqlbinlog when used together
with the --read-from-remote-server option due to use of
uninitialized memory.

Since Log_event::print_header() relies on temp_buf to be
initialized when the --hexdump option is present,
dump_remote_log_entries() was fixed to setup temp_buf to point
to the start of a binlog event as done in
dump_local_log_entries().

The root cause of this bug is identical to the one for
bug #17654. The latter was fixed in 5.1 and up, so this
patch is backport of the patches for bug #17654 to 5.0.

Only 5.0 needs a changelog entry.

9530126822 BUG#37145 Killing a statement doing DDL may log binlog event with error code 1053
When the thread executing a DDL was killed after finished its
execution but before writing the binlog event, the error code in
the binlog event could be set wrongly to ER_SERVER_SHUTDOWN or
ER_QUERY_INTERRUPTED.

This patch fixed the problem by ignoring the kill status when
constructing the event for DDL statements.

This patch also included the following changes in order to
provide the test case.

 1) modified mysqltest to support variable for connection command

 2) modified mysql-test-run.pl, add new variable MYSQL_SLAVE to
run mysql client against the slave mysqld.

4f333c876a Fix for BUG#21360 - mysqldump error on federated tables
When loading dump created by mysqldump tool an error is
thrown saying storage engine for the table doesn't have
an option.

mysqldump tries to re-insert the data into the federated
table which causes the error. Since the data is already
available on the remote server, mysqldump shouldn't try
to dump the data again for FEDERATED tables.

As stated in the bug page, it can be considered similar
to the MERGE ENGINE with "view only" nature.

Fixed by adding the "FEDERATED ENGINE" to the exception
list to ignore the data.

a3e5737abd Fix for bug#41486: extra character appears in BLOB for every
~40Mb after mysqldump/import

When the input string exceeds the maximum allowed size for the
internal buffer, batch_readline() returns a truncated string.
Since there was no way for a caller to determine whether the
string was truncated or not, the command line client assumed
batch_readline() to always return the whole input string and
appended a newline character. This resulted in garbled data
when importing dumps containing strings longer than the
maximum input buffer size.

Fixed by adding a flag to the batch_readline() interface to
signal a truncated string to the caller.

Other minor problems fixed during patch implementation:

- The maximum allowed buffer size for batch_readline() was set
up depending on the client's max_allowed_packet value. It does
not actully make any sense, as those variables are not
related. The input buffer size limit is now always set to 1
MB.

- fill_buffer() did not always set the EOF flag.

- The input buffer could actually grow twice as the specified
limit due to insufficient checks in intern_read_line().
