Threads can normally exit without a explicit pthread_exit call.
There seem to date to old glibc bugs, many around 2.2.5.
The semi related bug was https://bugs.mysql.com/bug.php?id=82886.
To improve safety in the signal handlers DBUG_* code was removed.
These where also needed to avoid some MSAN unresolved stack issues.
This is effectively a backport of 2719cc4925.

The functions queue_compare, qsort2_cmp, and qsort_cmp2
all had similar interfaces, and were used interchangable
and unsafely cast to one another.
This patch consolidates the functions all into the
qsort_cmp2 interface.

In previous commits, changes were made to use the entire 32 bit
unsigned range in order to support timestamps past 2038 on
64 bit systems. Without changing set_max_time on thr_timer to also
match this new range, the server will crash when attempting to
startup past 2038-01-19. Like the previous commits, this only
applies to 64 bit systems.
All new code of the whole pull request, including one or several
files that are either new files or modified ones, are contributed
under the BSD-new license. I am contributing on behalf of my
employer Amazon Web Services, Inc.
Threadpool will need a functionality for periodic thr_timer
(the threadpool maintainence task is a timer that runs periodically).
Also increase the stack size for the timer thread, 8k won't be enough.

There was a race condition in timer functionality of query timeouts.
Race was as following:
main thread: init_thr_timers()
timer handler thread: my_thread_init()
main thread: end_thr_timer()/timer_thread_state= ABORTING
timer handler thread: timer_thread_state= RUNNING, continue normal op
main thread: waits indefinitely for timer handler thread to go down
The original idea of the fix is to set RUNNING state in main thread, before
starting timer handler thread. But it didn't survive further cleanups:
- removed "timer_thread_state" and used "thr_timer_inited" for this purpose
- removed unused "timer_thread_running"
- removed code responisble for "timer handler thread" shutdown synchronization,
use pthread_join() instead.
Added MAX_STATEMENT_TIME user variable to automaticly kill queries after a given time limit has expired.

- Added kill_handlerton() to signal storage engines about kill/timeout
- Added support for GRANT ... MAX_STATEMENT_TIME=#
- Copy max_statement_time to current user, if stored in mysql.user
