CONSISTENT SNAPSHOT OPTION
A transaction is started with a consistent snapshot. After
the transaction is started new indexes are added to the
table. Now when we issue an update statement, the optimizer
chooses an index. When the index scan is being initialized
via ha_innobase::change_active_index(), InnoDB reports
the error code HA_ERR_TABLE_DEF_CHANGED, with message
stating that "insufficient history for index".
This error message is propagated up to the SQL layer. But
the my_error() api is never called. The statement level
diagnostics area is not updated with the correct error
status (it remains in Diagnostics_area::DA_EMPTY).
Hence the following check in the Protocol::end_statement()
fails.
516 case Diagnostics_area::DA_EMPTY:
517 default:
518 DBUG_ASSERT(0);
519 error= send_ok(thd->server_status, 0, 0, 0, NULL);
520 break;
The fix is to backport the fix of bugs 14365043, 11761652
and 11746399.

when semijoin=on
When setting the aggregate function as having no rows to report
the function no_rows_in_result() was calling Item_sum::reset().
However this function in addition to cleaning up the aggregate
value by calling aggregator_clear() was also adding the current
value to the aggregate value by calling aggregator_add().
Fixed by making no_rows_in_result() to call aggregator_clear()
directly.
Renamed Item_sum::reset to Item_sum::reset_and_add() to
and added a comment to avoid misinterpretation of what the
function does.
Item*) at opt_sum.cc:305
Queries applying MIN/MAX functions to indexed columns are
optimized to read directly from the index if all key parts
of the index preceding the aggregated key part are bound to
constants by the WHERE clause. A prefix length is also
produced, equal to the total length of the bound key
parts. If the aggregated column itself is bound to a
constant, however, it is also included in the prefix.
Such full search keys are read as closed intervals for
reasons beyond the scope of this bug. However, the procedure
missed one case where a key part meant for use as range
endpoint was being overwritten with a NULL value destined
for equality checking. In this case the key part was
overwritten but the range flag remained, causing open
interval reading to be performed.
Bug was fixed by adding more stringent checking to the
search key building procedure (matching_cond) and never
allow overwrites of range predicates with non-range
predicates.
An assertion was added to make sure open intervals are never
used with full search keys.
NULL from outer join query
Problem: optimising MIN/MAX() queries without GROUP BY clause
by replacing the aggregate expression with a constant, we may set it
to NULL disregarding the fact that there may be outer joins involved.
Fix: don't replace MIN/MAX() with NULL if there're outer joins.
Note: the fix itself is just
- if (!count)
+ if (!count && !outer_tables)
set to NULL
The rest of the patch eliminates repeated code to improve speed
and for easy maintenance of the code.
This patch:
- Moves all definitions from the mysql_priv.h file into
header files for the component where the variable is
defined
- Creates header files if the component lacks one
- Eliminates all include directives from mysql_priv.h
- Eliminates all circular include cycles
- Rename time.cc to sql_time.cc
- Rename mysql_priv.h to sql_priv.h

NULL column for NULL
The optimization to read MIN() and MAX() values from an
index did not properly handle comparisons with NULL
values. Fixed by giving up the particular optimization step
if there are non-NULL safe comparisons with NULL values, as
the result is NULL anyway.
Also, Oracle copyright notice was added to all files.
Queries optimized with GROUP_MIN_MAX didn't cleanup KEYREAD
optimization properly. As a result subsequent queries may
return incomplete rows (fields are initialized to default
values).

message:
Bug#15192 "fatal errors" are caught by handlers in stored procedures
The problem is that fatal errors (e.g.: out of memory) were being
caught by stored procedure exception handlers which could cause
the execution to not be stopped due to a continue handler.
The solution is to not call any exception handler if the error is
fatal and send the fatal error to the client.
Item_sum::set_aggregator() may be called multiple times during query preparation.
On subsequent calls: verify that the aggregator type is the same,
and re-use the existing Aggregator.
columns without where/group
Simple SELECT with implicit grouping used to return many rows if
the query was ordered by the aggregated column in the SELECT
list. This was incorrect because queries with implicit grouping
should only return a single record.
The problem was that when JOIN:exec() decided if execution needed
to handle grouping, it was assumed that sum_func_count==0 meant
that there were no aggregate functions in the query. This
assumption was not correct in JOIN::exec() because the aggregate
functions might have been optimized away during JOIN::optimize().
The reason why queries without ordering behaved correctly was
that sum_func_count is only recalculated if the optimizer chooses
to use temporary tables (which it does in the ordered case).
Hence, non-ordered queries were correctly treated as grouped.
The fix for this bug was to remove the assumption that
sum_func_count==0 means that there is no need for grouping. This
was done by introducing variable "bool implicit_grouping" in the
JOIN object.

crashes server
When creating temporary table that contains aggregate functions a
non-reversible source transformation was performed to redirect aggregate
function arguments towards temporary table columns.
This caused EXPLAIN EXTENDED to fail because it was trying to resolve
references to the (freed) temporary table.
Fixed by preserving the original aggregate function arguments and
using them (instead of the transformed ones) for EXPLAIN EXTENDED.
cause ROLLBACK of statement", part 1. Review fixes.
Do not send OK/EOF packets to the client until we reached the end of
the current statement.
This is a consolidation, to keep the functionality that is shared by all
SQL statements in one place in the server.
Currently this functionality includes:
- close_thread_tables()
- log_slow_statement().
After this patch and the subsequent patch for Bug#12713, it shall also include:
- ha_autocommit_or_rollback()
- net_end_statement()
- query_cache_end_of_result().
In future it may also include:
- mysql_reset_thd_for_next_command().
file .\opt_sum.cc, line
The optimizer pre-calculates the MIN/MAX values for queries like
SELECT MIN(kp_k) WHERE kp_1 = const AND ... AND kp_k-1 = const
when there is a key over kp_1...kp_k
In doing so it was not checking correctly nullability and
there was a superfluous assert().
Fixed by making sure that the field can be null before checking and
taking out the wrong assert().
.
Introduced a correct check for nullability
The MIN(field) can return NULL when all the row values in the group
are NULL-able or if there were no rows.
Fixed the assertion to reflect the case when there are no rows.

I had to do the following renames() as used polymorphism didn't work with Forte compiler on 64 bit systems

index_read_idx() -> index_read_idx_map()
index_read_last() -> index_read_last_map()
to NULL
For queries of the form SELECT MIN(key_part_k) FROM t1
WHERE key_part_1 = const and ... and key_part_k-1 = const,
the opt_sum_query optimization tries to
use an index to substitute MIN/MAX functions with their values according
to the following rules:
1) Insert the minimum non-null values where the WHERE clause still matches, or
3) A row of nulls
However, the correct semantics requires that there is a third case 2)
such that a NULL value is substituted if there are only NULL values for
key_part_k.
The patch modifies opt_sum_query() to handle this missing case.
The following type conversions was done:
- Changed byte to uchar
- Changed gptr to uchar*
- Change my_string to char *
- Change my_size_t to size_t
- Change size_s to size_t
Removed declaration of byte, gptr, my_string, my_size_t and size_s.
Following function parameter changes was done:
- All string functions in mysys/strings was changed to use size_t
instead of uint for string lengths.
- All read()/write() functions changed to use size_t (including vio).
- All protocoll functions changed to use size_t instead of uint
- Functions that used a pointer to a string length was changed to use size_t*
- Changed malloc(), free() and related functions from using gptr to use void *
as this requires fewer casts in the code and is more in line with how the
standard functions work.
- Added extra length argument to dirname_part() to return the length of the
created string.
- Changed (at least) following functions to take uchar* as argument:
- db_dump()
- my_net_write()
- net_write_command()
- net_store_data()
- DBUG_DUMP()
- decimal2bin() & bin2decimal()
- Changed my_compress() and my_uncompress() to use size_t. Changed one
argument to my_uncompress() from a pointer to a value as we only return
one value (makes function easier to use).
- Changed type of 'pack_data' argument to packfrm() to avoid casts.
- Changed in readfrm() and writefrom(), ha_discover and handler::discover()
the type for argument 'frmdata' to uchar** to avoid casts.
- Changed most Field functions to use uchar* instead of char* (reduced a lot of
casts).
- Changed field->val_xxx(xxx, new_ptr) to take const pointers.
Other changes:
- Removed a lot of not needed casts
- Added a few new cast required by other changes
- Added some cast to my_multi_malloc() arguments for safety (as string lengths
needs to be uint, not size_t).
- Fixed all calls to hash-get-key functions to use size_t*. (Needed to be done
explicitely as this conflict was often hided by casting the function to
hash_get_key).
- Changed some buffers to memory regions to uchar* to avoid casts.
- Changed some string lengths from uint to size_t.
- Changed field->ptr to be uchar* instead of char*. This allowed us to
get rid of a lot of casts.
- Some changes from true -> TRUE, false -> FALSE, unsigned char -> uchar
- Include zlib.h in some files as we needed declaration of crc32()
- Changed MY_FILE_ERROR to be (size_t) -1.
- Changed many variables to hold the result of my_read() / my_write() to be
size_t. This was needed to properly detect errors (which are
returned as (size_t) -1).
- Removed some very old VMS code
- Changed packfrm()/unpackfrm() to not be depending on uint size
(portability fix)
- Removed windows specific code to restore cursor position as this
causes slowdown on windows and we should not mix read() and pread()
calls anyway as this is not thread safe. Updated function comment to
reflect this. Changed function that depended on original behavior of
my_pwrite() to itself restore the cursor position (one such case).
- Added some missing checking of return value of malloc().
- Changed definition of MOD_PAD_CHAR_TO_FULL_LENGTH to avoid 'long' overflow.
- Changed type of table_def::m_size from my_size_t to ulong to reflect that
m_size is the number of elements in the array, not a string/memory
length.
- Moved THD::max_row_length() to table.cc (as it's not depending on THD).
Inlined max_row_length_blob() into this function.
- More function comments
- Fixed some compiler warnings when compiled without partitions.
- Removed setting of LEX_STRING() arguments in declaration (portability fix).
- Some trivial indentation/variable name changes.
- Some trivial code simplifications:
- Replaced some calls to alloc_root + memcpy to use
strmake_root()/strdup_root().
- Changed some calls from memdup() to strmake() (Safety fix)
- Simpler loops in client-simple.c
Made the function opt_sum_query to return HA_ERR_KEY_NOT_FOUND when
no matches were found (instead of -1 it returned prior this patch).
This changes allow us to avoid possible conflicts with return values
from user-defined handler methods which also may return -1.
No particular test cases are provided with this fix.
index_read(), index_read_idx(), index_read_last(), and
records_in_range() - instead of 'uint keylen' argument take
'ulonglong keypart_map', a bitmap showing which keyparts are
present in the key value.
Fallback method is provided for handlers that are lagging behind.
