Holding on to the temporary inno hash index latch is an optimization in
many cases, but a pessimization in some others.
Release temporary latches for those corner cases we (or rather, or customers,
thanks!) have identified, that is, when we are about to do something that
might take a really long time, like REPAIR or filesort.
On 64-bit Windows: querying MERGE table with keys may cause
server crash. The problem is generic and may affect any statement
accessing MERGE table cardinality values.
When MERGE engine was copying cardinality statistics, it was
using incorrect size of element in cardinality statistics array
(sizeof(ptr)==8 instead of sizeof(ulong)==4), causing access
of memory beyond of the allocated bounds.
When concurrent inserts were disabled, statements after an INSERT
were not put into the query cache. This happened because we do not
save the current data file length at statement start when
concurrent inserts are disabled. But we checked the always zero
local length against the real file length anyway.
Fixed by doing the check only if concurrent inserts are not diabled.
self-join
When doing DELETE with self-join on a MyISAM or MERGE table, it could
happen that a record being retrieved in join_read_next_same() has
already been deleted by previous iterations. That caused the engine's
index_next_same() method to fail with HA_ERR_RECORD_DELETED error and
the whole DELETE query to be aborted with an error.
Fixed by suppressing the HA_ERR_RECORD_DELETED error in
hy_myisam::index_next_same() and ha_myisammrg::index_next_same(). Since
HA_ERR_RECORD_DELETED can only be returned by MyISAM, there is no point
in filtering this error in the SQL layer.
A race condition in the integration between MyISAM and the query cache code
caused the query cache to fail to invalidate itself on concurrently inserted
data.
This patch fix this problem by using the existing handler interface which, upon
each statement cache attempt, compare the size of the table as viewed from the
cache writing thread and with any snap shot of the global table state. If the
two sizes are different the global table size is unknown and the current
statement can't be cached.
By default MyISAM overwrites .MYD and .MYI files no
DATA DIRECTORY option is used. This can lead to two tables
using the same .MYD and .MYI files (that can't be dropped).
To prevent CREATE TABLE from overwriting a file a new option
is introduced : keep_files_on_create
When this is on the CREATE TABLE throws an error if either
the .MYD or .MYI exists for a MyISAM table.
The option is off by default (resulting in compatible behavior).
SHOW CREATE TABLE fails
Underlying table names, that merge engine fails to open were not
reported.
With this fix CHECK TABLE issued against merge table reports all
underlying table names that it fails to open. Other statements
are unaffected, that is underlying table names are not included
into error message.
This fix doesn't solve SHOW CREATE TABLE issue.
my_seek: Assertion `fd != -1' failed"
In difficult optimize/repair situations the server could crash.
Under some circumstances the server retries an optimize/repair
with more elaborate options. But it did not check if the first
attempt failed so badly that a second one must not be tried.
This could happen when a new data file has been created
but it was not possible to open it. In this case the
repair leaves behind a table with closed data file.
This must not be used for another repair attempt.
We do now detect the closed data file and do not try
another repair attempt in this situation.
No test case. The required table corruption can not be
repeated easily. There is a test program attached to
bug 25433.
differences in tables
Certain merge tables were wrongly reported as having incorrect definition:
- Some fields that are 1 byte long (e.g. TINYINT, CHAR(1)), might
be internally casted (in certain cases) to a different type on a
storage engine layer. (affects 4.1 and up)
- If tables in a merge (and a MERGE table itself) had short VARCHAR column (less
than 4 bytes) and at least one (but not all) tables were ALTER'ed (even to an
identical table: ALTER TABLE xxx ENGINE=yyy), table definitions went ouf of
sync. (affects 4.1 only)
This is fixed by relaxing a check for underlying conformance and setting
field type to FIELD_TYPE_STRING in case varchar is shorter than 4
when a table is created.
to a single statement.

Bug#24795: SHOW PROFILE
Profiling is only partially functional on some architectures. Where
there is no getrusage() system call, presently Null values are
returned where it would be required. Notably, Windows needs some love
applied to make it as useful.
Syntax this adds:
SHOW PROFILES
SHOW PROFILE [types] [FOR QUERY n] [OFFSET n] [LIMIT n]
where "n" is an integer
and "types" is zero or many (comma-separated) of
"CPU"
"MEMORY" (not presently supported)
"BLOCK IO"
"CONTEXT SWITCHES"
"PAGE FAULTS"
"IPC"
"SWAPS"
"SOURCE"
"ALL"
It also adds a session variable (boolean) "profiling", set to "no"
by default, and (integer) profiling_history_size, set to 15 by
default.
This patch abstracts setting THDs' "proc_info" behind a macro that
can be used as a hook into the profiling code when profiling
support is compiled in. All future code in this line should use
that mechanism for setting thd->proc_info.

Tests are now set to omit the statistics.
---
Adds an Information_schema table, "profiling" for access to
"show profile" data.

Fix merge problems.
---
Fixed one bug in the query_source being NULL.
Updated test results.

Include more thorough profiling tests.
Improve support for prepared statements.
Use session-specific query IDs, starting at zero.

Selecting from I_S.profiling is no longer quashed in profiling, as
requested by Giuseppe.
Limit the size of captured query text.
No longer log queries that are zero length.
When a merge table is opened compare column and key definition of
underlying tables against column and key definition of merge table.
If any of underlying tables have different column/key definition
refuse to open merge table.

Only MyISAM tables locked with LOCK TABLES ... WRITE were affected.
A query that is optimized with index_merge doesn't reflect rows
inserted within LOCK TABLES.
MyISAM doesn't flush a state within LOCK TABLES. index_merge
optimization creates a copy of the handler, which thus gets
outdated MyISAM state.
New handler->clone() method is introduced to fix this problem.
For non-MyISAM storage engines it allocates a handler and opens
it with ha_open(). For MyISAM it additionally copies MyISAM state
pointer to cloned handler.
