a411d7f4f6 store/show vcols as item->print()
otherwise we'd need to store sql_mode *per vcol*
(consider CREATE INDEX...) and how SHOW CREATE TABLE would
support that?

Additionally, get rid of vcol::expr_str, just to make sure
the string is always generated and never leaked in the
original form.

34eb10e406 MDEV-10138 Support for decimals up to 38 digits
Decimals with float, double and decimal now works the following way:

- DECIMAL_NOT_SPECIFIED is used when declaring DECIMALS without a firm number
of decimals. It's only used in asserts and my_decimal_int_part.
- FLOATING_POINT_DECIMALS (31) is used to mark that a FLOAT or DOUBLE
was defined without decimals. This is regarded as a floating point value.
- Max decimals allowed for FLOAT and DOUBLE is FLOATING_POINT_DECIMALS-1
- Clients assumes that float and double with decimals >= NOT_FIXED_DEC are
  floating point values (no decimals)
- In the .frm decimals=FLOATING_POINT_DECIMALS are used to define
floating point for float and double (31, like before)

To ensure compatibility with old clients we do:

- When storing float and double, we change NOT_FIXED_DEC to
  FLOATING_POINT_DECIMALS.
- When creating fields from .frm we change for float and double
  FLOATING_POINT_DEC to NOT_FIXED_DEC
- When sending definition for a float/decimal field without decimals
to the client as part of a result set we convert NOT_FIXED_DEC to
  FLOATING_POINT_DECIMALS.
- variance() and std() has changed to limit the decimals to
FLOATING_POINT_DECIMALS -1 to not get the double converted floating point.
  (This was to preserve compatiblity)
- FLOAT and DOUBLE still have 30 as max number of decimals.

Bugs fixed:

variance() printed more decimals than we support for double values.

New behaviour:
- Strings now have 38 decimals instead of 30 when converted to decimal
- CREATE ... SELECT with a decimal with > 30 decimals will create a column
with a smaller range than before as we are trying to preserve the number of
  decimals.

Other changes
- We are now using the obsolete bit FIELDFLAG_LEFT_FULLSCREEN to specify
  decimals > 31
- NOT_FIXED_DEC is now declared in one place
- For clients, NOT_FIXED_DEC is always 31 (to ensure compatibility).
  On the server NOT_FIXED_DEC is DECIMAL_NOT_SPECIFIED (39)
- AUTO_SEC_PART_DIGITS is taken from DECIMAL_NOT_SPECIFIED
- DOUBLE conversion functions are now using DECIMAL_NOT_SPECIFIED instead of
  NOT_FIXED_DEC

212698b152 MDEV-8253 EXPLAIN SELECT prints unexpected characters
Item_string::clone_item() creates a new Item_string that
points exactly to the same buffer that the original one does.
Later, Item_string::print() uses c_ptr() for the original Item_string,
which reallocs the original buffer, and the clone remain with
the old freed buffer.
Refactoring the code not to use c_ptr() in Item_string::print().

9392d0e280 - MDEV-6695 Bad column name for UCS2 string literals
The Item_string constructors called set_name() on the source string,
which was wrong because in case of UCS2/UTF16/UTF32 the source value
might be a not well formed string (e.g. have incomplete leftmost character).
Now set_name() is called on str_value after its copied
(with optionally left zero padding) from the source string.
- MDEV-6694 Illegal mix of collation with a PS parameter
  Item_param::convert_str_value() did not set repertoire.
Introducing a new structure MY_STRING_METADATA to collect
character length and repertoire of a string in a single loop,
to avoid two separate loops. Adding a new class Item_basic_value::Metadata
as a convenience wrapper around MY_STRING_METADATA, to reuse the
  code between Item_string and Item_param.

37b9a31a30 Bug #18359924: INNODB AND MYISAM CORRUPTION ON PREFIX INDEXES
The problem was in the validation of the input data for blob types.
When assigned binary data, the character blob types were only checking if
the length of these data is a multiple of the minimum char length for the
destination charset.
And since e.g. UTF-8's minimum character length is 1 (becuase it's
variable length) even byte sequences that are invalid utf-8 strings (e.g.
wrong leading byte etc) were copied verbatim into utf-8 columns when
coming from binary strings or fields.
Storing invalid data into string columns was having all kinds of ill effects
on code that assumed that the encoding data are valid to begin with.

Fixed by additionally checking the incoming binary string for validity when
assigning it to a non-binary string column.
Made sure the conversions to charsets with no known "invalid" ranges
are not covered by the extra check.
Removed trailing spaces.

Test case added.

a260b15554 MDEV-4011 Added per thread memory counting and usage
Base code and idea from a patch from by plinux at Taobao.

The idea is that we mark all memory that are thread specific with MY_THREAD_SPECIFIC.
Memory counting is done per thread in the my_malloc_size_cb_func callback function from my_malloc().
There are plenty of new asserts to ensure that for a debug server the counting is correct.

Information_schema.processlist gets two new columns: MEMORY_USED and EXAMINED_ROWS.
- The later is there mainly to show how query is progressing.

The following changes in interfaces was needed to get this to work:
- init_alloc_root() amd init_sql_alloc() has extra option so that one can mark memory with MY_THREAD_SPECIFIC
- One now have to use alloc_root_set_min_malloc() to set min memory to be allocated by alloc_root()
- my_init_dynamic_array() has extra option so that one can mark memory with MY_THREAD_SPECIFIC
- my_net_init() has extra option so that one can mark memory with MY_THREAD_SPECIFIC
- Added flag for hash_init() so that one can mark hash table to be thread specific.
- Added flags to init_tree() so that one can mark tree to be thread specific.
- Removed with_delete option to init_tree(). Now one should instead use MY_TREE_WITH_DELETE_FLAG.
- Added flag to Warning_info::Warning_info() if the structure should be fully initialized.
- String elements can now be marked as thread specific.
- Internal HEAP tables are now marking it's memory as MY_THREAD_SPECIFIC.
- Changed type of myf from int to ulong, as this is always a set of bit flags.

Other things:
- Removed calls to net_end() and thd->cleanup() as these are now done in ~THD()
- We now also show EXAMINED_ROWS in SHOW PROCESSLIST
- Added new variable 'memory_used'
- Fixed bug where kill_threads_for_user() was using the wrong mem_root to allocate memory.
- Removed calls to the obsoleted function init_dynamic_array()
- Use set_current_thd() instead of my_pthread_setspecific_ptr(THR_THD,...)

Nisha Gopalakrishnan
c4afaa4242 BUG#11757250: REPLACE(...) INSIDE A STORED PROCEDURE.
Analysis:
--------

REPLACE operation provides incorrect output when
user variable is supplied as an argument and there
are multiple rows on which the operation is performed.

Consider the example below:

SET @var='(( 00000000 ++ 00000000 ))';
SELECT REPLACE(@var, '00000000', table_name) AS a FROM
INFORMATION_SCHEMA.TABLES WHERE TABLE_SCHEMA='mysql';

Invalid output:
  +---------------------------------------+
REPLACE(@var, '00000000', TABLE_NAME)
  +---------------------------------------+
(( columns_priv ++ columns_priv ))
(( columns_priv ++ columns_priv ))
      ......
      ......
(( columns_priv ++ columns_priv ))
(( columns_priv ++ columns_priv ))
(( columns_priv ++ columns_priv ))
  +---------------------------------------+

The user argument supplied as the string to REPLACE
operation is overwritten after the first iteration
to '(( columns_priv ++ columns_priv ))'.
The overwritten string after the first iteration
is used for the subsequent REPLACE iteration. Since
the pattern string is not found, it returns invalid
output as mentioned above.

Fix:
---
If the Alloced_length is zero, realloc() and create a
copy of the string which is then used for the REPLACE
operation for every iteration.

bc4a456758 MDEV-452 Add full support for auto-initialized/updated timestamp and datetime
Generalized support for auto-updated and/or auto-initialized timestamp
and datetime columns. This patch is a reimplementation of MySQL's
"WL#5874: CURRENT_TIMESTAMP as DEFAULT for DATETIME columns". In order to
ease future merges, this implementation reused few function and variable
names from MySQL's patch, however the implementation is quite different.

TODO:
The only unresolved problem in this patch is the semantics of LOAD DATA for
TIMESTAMP and DATETIME columns in the cases when there are missing or NULL
columns. I couldn't fully comprehend the logic behind MySQL's behavior and
its relationship with their own documentation, so I left the results to be
more consistent with all other LOAD cases.

The problematic test cases can be seen by running the test file function_defaults,
and observing the test case differences. Those were left on purpose for discussion.

14263b222a Bug#11753363 (bug#44793) CHARACTER SETS: CASE CLAUSE, UCS2 OR UTF32, FAILURE
Problem: in case of string CASE/WHEN arguments with different
character sets, Item_func_case::find_item() called comparator
cmp_items[x] on mixed character set Items, so a 8-bit value could
be errouneously referenced to as being utf16/utf32 value,
which led to crash on DBUG_ASSERT() because of wrong value length.
This was wrong, as string comparator expects arguments in the same
character set.

Fix: modify Item_func_case's argument list after calling
agg_arg_charsets_for_comparison() - put the Items in "agg" array
back to "args", because some of the Items in the "agg" array might
have been changed to character set converters:
- to Item_func_conv_charset for non-constant items
- to Item_string for constant items

In other words, perform the same substitution which is done in
all other operations string comparison or string result operations:

Replace
  CASE latin1_item WHEN utf16_item THEN ... END
to
  CASE CONVERT(latin1_item USING utf16) WHEN utf16_item THEN ... END

Replace
  CASE utf16_item WHEN latin1_item THEN ... END
to
  CASE utf16_item WHEN CONVERT(latin1_item USING utf16) THEN ... END

  @ mysql-test/t/ctype_utf16.test

  @ sql/item_cmpfunc.cc
  Put "agg" back to "args".

  @ sql/sql_string.cc

  for better test coverage:

This fix was made in 5.6 under terms of "WL#4616 Implement UTF16-LE".

716b64cdb0 Bug#58165: "my_empty_string" gets modified and causes LOAD DATA to fail and
other crashes

Some string manipulating SQL functions use a shared string object intended to
contain an immutable empty string. This object was used by the SQL function
SUBSTRING_INDEX() to return an empty string when one argument was of the wrong
datatype. If the string object was then modified by the sql function INSERT(),
undefined behavior ensued.

Fixed by instead modifying the string object representing the function's
result value whenever string manipulating SQL functions return an empty
string.

Relevant code has also been documented.

04ae1aa954 Bug#55077: Assertion failed: width > 0 && to != ((void *)0),
file .\dtoa.c

The assertion failure was correct because the 'width' argument
of my_gcvt() has the signed integer type, whereas the unsigned
value UINT_MAX32 was being passed by the caller
(Field_double::val_str()) leading to a negative width in
my_gcvt().

The following chain of problems was found by further analysis:

1. The display width for a floating point number is calculated
in Field_double::val_str() as either field_length or the
maximum possible length of string representation of a floating
point number, whichever is greater. Since in the bug's test
case field_length is UINT_MAX32, we get the same value as the
display width. This does not make any sense because for numeric
values field_length only matters for ZEROFILL columns,
otherwise it does not make sense to allocate that much memory
just to print a number. Field_float::val_str() has a similar
problem.

2. Even if the above wasn't the case, we would still get a
crash on a slightly different test case when trying to allocate
UINT_MAX32 bytes with String::alloc() because the latter does
not handle such large input values correctly due to alignment
overflows.

3. Even when String::alloc() is fixed to return an error when
an alignment overflow occurs, there is still a problem because
almost no callers check its return value, and
Field_double::val_str() is not an exception (same for
Field_float::val_str()).

4. Even if all of the above wasn't the case, creating a
Field_double object with UINT_MAX32 as its field_length does
not make much sense either, since the .frm code limits it to
MAX_FIELD_CHARLENGTH (255) bytes. Such a beast can only be
created by create_tmp_field_from_item() from an Item with
REAL_RESULT as its result_type() and UINT_MAX32 as its
max_length.

5. For the bug's test case, the above condition (REAL_RESULT
Item with max_length = UINT_MAX32) was a result of
Item_func_if::fix_length_and_dec() "shortcutting" aggregation
of argument types when one of the arguments was a constant
NULL. In this case, the attributes of the aggregated type were
simply copied from the other, non-NULL argument, but max_length
was still calculated as per the general, non-shortcut case, by
choosing the greatest of argument's max_length, which is
obviously not correct.

The patch addresses all of the above problems, even though
fixing the assertion failure for the particular test case would
require only a subset of the above problems to be solved.

client/sql_string.cc:
Return an error in case of uint32 overflow in alignment.
Also assert there was no overflow to help find such conditions
in debug builds, since almost no callers check the return value
  of String::alloc().
mysql-test/r/func_if.result:
Add a test case for bug #55077.
mysql-test/t/func_if.test:
Add a test case for bug #55077.
sql/field.cc:
  - Assert we don't operate with fields wider than 255
(MAX_FIELD_CHARLENGTH) bytes in both Field_float and
  Field_double.
  - Don't take field_length into account when calculating the
  output buffer length.
  - Check the return value of String::alloc()
sql/item_cmpfunc.cc:
When shortcutting type aggregation, don't take the NULL
  argument's max_length into account.
sql/sql_string.cc:

11fae04527 Bug#45288: pb2 returns a lot of compilation warnings on linux
Although the C standard mandates that sprintf return the number
of bytes written, some very ancient systems (i.e. SunOS 4)
returned a pointer to the buffer instead. Since these systems
are not supported anymore and are hopefully long dead by now,
simply remove the portability wrapper that dealt with this
discrepancy. The autoconf check was causing trouble with GCC.

12f364ece7 Backport of WL #2934: Make/find library for doing float/double
to string conversions and vice versa"
Initial import of the dtoa.c code and custom wrappers around it
to allow its usage from the server code.

Conversion of FLOAT/DOUBLE values to DECIMAL ones or strings
and vice versa has been significantly reworked. As the new
algoritms are more precise than the older ones, results of such
conversions may not always match those obtained from older
server versions. This in turn may break compatibility for some
applications.

This patch also fixes the following bugs:
- bug #12860 "Difference in zero padding of exponent between
Unix and Windows"
- bug #21497 "DOUBLE truncated to unusable value"
- bug #26788 "mysqld (debug) aborts when inserting specific
numbers into char fields"
- bug #24541 "Data truncated..." on decimal type columns
without any good reason"

6bc7eab161 MWL#36: Add a mysqlbinlog option to change the used database.
Make sql_alloc() declaration "public" for a client context.
The reason is that sql_alloc() is used in definition of some common
purpose stuff (e.g. sql_list.*). To make this stuff available for a
client context we declare sql_alloc() as a "virtual function", i.e.
as a function that is already declared but must be defined in this
context (note that definition of sql_alloc() in thr_malloc.cc is
#ifndef'ed for MYSQL_CLIENT).
Also make sql_string.h repeatedly includable.

  names, consisting on ASCII characters.

Changes:

- Protocol doesn't use "convert" temporary buffer anymore,
and converts strings directly to "packet".

- General conversion optimization: quick conversion
  of ASCII strings was added.

modified files:

include/m_ctype.h
- Adding a new flag.
- Adding a new function prototype

libmysqld/lib_sql.cc
- Adding quick conversion method for embedded library:
conversion is now done directly to result buffer,
  without using a temporary buffer.

mysys/charset.c
- Mark all dynamic ucs2 character sets as non-ASCII
- Mark some dymamic 7bit and 8bit charsets as non-ASCII
(for example swe7 is not fully ASCII compatible).

sql/protocol.cc
- Adding quick method to convert a string directly
into protocol buffer, without using a temporary buffer.

sql/protocol.h
- Adding a new method prototype

sql/sql_string.cc
Optimization for conversion between two ASCII-compatible charsets:
- quickly convert ASCII strings,
switch to mc_wc->wc_mb method only when a non-ASCII character is met.
- copy four ASCII characters at once on i386

strings/conf_to_src.c
- Marking non-ASCII character sets with a flag.

strings/ctype-extra.c
- Regenerating ctype-extra.c by running "conf_to_src".

strings/ctype-uca.c
- Marking UCS2 character set as non-ASCII.

strings/ctype-ucs2.c
- Marking UCS2 character set as non-ASCII.

strings/ctype.c
- A new function to detect if a 7bit or 8bit character set
  is ascii compatible.

4e95179af9 Bug# 30946: mysqldump silently ignores --default-character-set
when used with --tab

1) New syntax: added CHARACTER SET clause to the
SELECT ... INTO OUTFILE (to complement the same clause in
  LOAD DATA INFILE).
mysqldump is updated to use this in --tab mode.

2) ESCAPED BY/ENCLOSED BY field parameters are documented as
accepting CHAR argument, however SELECT .. INTO OUTFILE
silently ignored rests of multisymbol arguments.
For the symmetrical behavior with LOAD DATA INFILE the
server has been modified to fail with the same error:

ERROR 42000: Field separator argument is not what is
                  expected; check the manual

3) Current LOAD DATA INFILE recognizes field/line separators
"as is" without converting from client charset to data
file charset. So, it is supposed, that input file of
LOAD DATA INFILE consists of data in one charset and
separators in other charset. For the compatibility with
that [buggy] behaviour SELECT INTO OUTFILE implementation
has been saved "as is" too, but the new warning message
   has been added:

Non-ASCII separator arguments are not fully supported

This message warns on field/line separators that contain
   non-ASCII symbols.

client/mysqldump.c:
mysqldump has been updated to call SELECT ... INTO OUTFILE
statement with a charset from the --default-charset command
  line parameter.
mysql-test/r/mysqldump.result:
Added test case for bug #30946.
mysql-test/r/outfile_loaddata.result:
Added test case for bug #30946.
mysql-test/t/mysqldump.test:
Added test case for bug #30946.
mysql-test/t/outfile_loaddata.test:
Added test case for bug #30946.
sql/field.cc:
String conversion code has been moved from check_string_copy_error()
  to convert_to_printable() for reuse.
sql/share/errmsg.txt:
New WARN_NON_ASCII_SEPARATOR_NOT_IMPLEMENTED message has been added.
sql/sql_class.cc:
The select_export::prepare() method has been modified to:

    1) raise the ER_WRONG_FIELD_TERMINATORS error on multisymbol
       ENCLOSED BY/ESCAPED BY field arguments like LOAD DATA INFILE;

    2) warn with a new WARN_NON_ASCII_SEPARATOR_NOT_IMPLEMENTED
message on non-ASCII field or line separators.

The select_export::send_data() merhod has been modified to
convert item data to output charset (see new SELECT INTO OUTFILE
syntax). By default the BINARY charset is used for backward
  compatibility.
sql/sql_class.h:
The select_export::write_cs field added to keep output
  charset.
sql/sql_load.cc:
mysql_load has been modified to warn on non-ASCII field or
line separators with a new WARN_NON_ASCII_SEPARATOR_NOT_IMPLEMENTED
  message.
sql/sql_string.cc:
New global function has been added: convert_to_printable()
(common code has been moved from check_string_copy_error()).
sql/sql_string.h:
New String::is_ascii() method and new global convert_to_printable()
  function have been added.
sql/sql_yacc.yy:
New syntax: added CHARACTER SET clause to the
SELECT ... INTO OUTFILE (to complement the same clause in
LOAD DATA INFILE). By default the BINARY charset is used for
  backward compatibility.

9db357e2bf Added MY_CS_NONASCII marker for character sets that are not compatible with latin1 for characters 0x00-0x7f
This allows us to skip and speed up some very common character converts that MySQL is doing when sending data to the client
and this gives us a nice speed increase for most queries that uses only characters in the range 0x00-0x7f.

This code is based on Alexander Barkov's code that he has done in MySQL 6.0

include/m_ctype.h:
  Added MY_CS_NONASCII marker
libmysqld/lib_sql.cc:
Added function net_store_data(...) that takes to and from CHARSET_INFO * as arguments
mysys/charset.c:
  Mark character sets with MY_CS_NONASCII
scripts/mysql_install_db.sh:
Fixed messages to refer to MariaDB instead of MySQL
sql/protocol.cc:
Added function net_store_data(...) that takes to and from CHARSET_INFO * as arguments
sql/protocol.h:
Added function net_store_data(...) that takes to and from CHARSET_INFO * as arguments
sql/sql_string.cc:
Quicker copy of strings with no characters above 0x7f
strings/conf_to_src.c:
  Added printing of MY_CS_NONASCII
strings/ctype-extra.c:
Mark incompatible character sets with MY_CS_NONASCII
  Removed duplicated character set geostd
strings/ctype-sjis.c:
Mark incompatible character sets with MY_CS_NONASCII
strings/ctype-uca.c:
Mark incompatible character sets with MY_CS_NONASCII
strings/ctype-ucs2.c:
Mark incompatible character sets with MY_CS_NONASCII
strings/ctype-utf8.c:
Mark incompatible character sets with MY_CS_NONASCII
strings/ctype.c:
Added function to check if character set is compatible with latin1 in ranges 0x00-0x7f

985df4dcdc Fix for bug#44743: Join in combination with concat does not always work
bug#44766: valgrind error when using convert() in a subquery

Problem: input and output buffers may be the same
converting a string to some charset.
That may lead to wrong results/valgrind warnings.

Fix: use different buffers.
