da1d159fbf Bug#39289 libmysqld.a calls exit() upon error
Several functions (mostly in mysqld.cc) directly call
exit() function in case of errors, which is not a desired
behaviour expecially in the embedded-server library.

Fixed by making these functions return error sign instead
of exiting.

10b525d0bc Bug#39571 abi_check Does not create all prerequisites
The abi_check target instroduced as part of WL#4380 verifies
changes to mysql.h. mysql.h in turn includes mysql_version.h.
mysql_version.h is a file that is generated during the configure
phase. We must ensure that mysql_version.h is cleaned only during
distclean and not during clean.

459b8b3dd2 Bug#38477: my_pthread_setprio can change dispatch class on Solaris, not just priority
The problem is that the function used by the server to increase
the thread's priority (pthread_setschedparam) has the unintended
side-effect of changing the calling thread scheduling policy,
possibly overwriting a scheduling policy set by a sysadmin.

The solution is to rely on the pthread_setschedprio function, if
available, as it only changes the scheduling priority and does not
change the scheduling policy. This function is usually available on
Solaris and Linux, but it use won't work by default on Linux as the
the default scheduling policy only accepts a static priority 0 -- this
is acceptable for now as priority changing on Linux is broken anyway.

28f29b7313 Bug#38941: fast mutexes in MySQL 5.1 have mutex contention when calling random()
The problem is that MySQL's 'fast' mutex implementation uses the
random() routine to determine the spin delay. Unfortunately, the
routine interface is not thead-safe and some implementations (eg:
glibc) might use a internal lock to protect the RNG state, causing
excessive locking contention if lots of threads are spinning on
a MySQL's 'fast' mutex. The code was also misusing the value
of the RAND_MAX macro, this macro represents the largest value
that can be returned from the rand() function, not random().

The solution is to use the quite simple Park-Miller random number
generator. The initial seed is set to 1 because the previously used
generator wasn't being seeded -- the initial seed is 1 if srandom()
is not called.

Futhermore, the 'fast' mutex implementation has several shortcomings
and provides no measurable performance benefit. Therefore, its use is
not recommended unless it provides directly measurable results.

acaf211df2 Bug#37958 - test main.plugin crash on Mac OS X when selecting from EXAMPLE engine.
This patch contains fixes for two problems:

1. As originally reported, the server crashed on Mac OS X when trying to access
an EXAMPLE table after the EXAMPLE plugin was installed.

It turned out that the dynamically loaded EXAMPLE plugin called the
function hash_earch() from a Mac OS X system library, instead of
   hash_earch() from MySQL's mysys library. Makefile.am in storage/example
does not include libmysys. So the Mac OS X linker arranged the hash_search()
function to be linked to the system library when the shared object is
   loaded.

One possible solution would be to include libmysys into the linkage of
dynamic plugins. But then we must have a libmysys.so, which must be
used by the server too. This could have a minimal performance impact,
but foremost the change seems to bee too risky at the current state of
   MySQL 5.1.

The selected solution is to rename MySQL's hash_search() to my_hash_search()
like it has been done before with hash_insert() and hash_reset().

Since this is the third time, we need to rename a hash_*() function,
I did renamed all hash_*() functions to my_hash_*().

To avoid changing a zillion calls to these functions, and announcing
this to hundreds of developers, I added defines that map the old names
   to the new names.

This change is in hash.h and hash.c.

2. The other problem was improper implementation of the handlerton-to-plugin
mapping. We use a fixed-size array to hold a plugin reference for each
handlerton. On every install of a handler plugin, we allocated a new slot
of the array. On uninstall we did not free it. After some uninstall/install
cycles the array overflowed. We did not check for overflow.

One fix is to check for overflow to stop the crashes.

Another fix is to free the array slot at uninstall and search for a free slot
   at plugin install.

   This change is in handler.cc.

35ffaf10e3 Bug#34306: Can't make copy of log tables when server binary log is enabled
The problem is that when statement-based replication was enabled,
statements such as INSERT INTO .. SELECT FROM .. and CREATE TABLE
.. SELECT FROM need to grab a read lock on the source table that
does not permit concurrent inserts, which would in turn be denied
if the source table is a log table because log tables can't be
locked exclusively.

The solution is to not take such a lock when the source table is
a log table as it is unsafe to replicate log tables under statement
based replication. Furthermore, the read lock that does not permits
concurrent inserts is now only taken if statement-based replication
is enabled and if the source table is not a log table.

30bd1d7cb3 Bug#37003 Tests sporadically crashes with embedded server
The problem was that when a embedded linked version of mysqltest
crashed there was no way to obtain a stack trace if no core file
is available. Another problem is that the embedded version of
libmysql was not behaving (crash) the same as the non-embedded with
respect to sending commands to a explicitly closed connection.

The solution is to generate a mysqltest's stack trace on crash
and to enable "reconnect" if the connection handle was explicitly
closed so the behavior matches the non-embedded one.

6ae3bca94e Bug#27430 "Crash in subquery code when in PS and table DDL changed after
PREPARE", review fixes:
- make the patch follow the specification of WL#4166 and remove
the new error that was originally introduced.
Now the client never gets an error from reprepare, unless it failed.
I.e. even if the statement at hand returns a completely different
result set, this is not considered a server error.
The C API library, that can not handle this situation, was modified to
return a client error.
Added additional test coverage.

36b83cc865 Fix for Bug #27944 Filtering THD::client capabilities
The server used to trust blindly information from the client about
its capabilities. During the connection handshake the server sends
information about what it supports and then the client sends back a
set of capabilities which cover all of the server's or less.
Before this changeset the server didn't check whether the flags sent
by the client were valid for the server. For example, if the server
doesn't support compressed protocol but the client does and sends that
bit turned on, the server didn't check it. The change make the server code
less error prone to problems related to the value of THD::client_capabilities.

Clearly there is no vulnerability being fixed but this is a maintainenance
fix to prevent misusage in the future.

ff0aac178d Bug #26461: Intrinsic data type bool (1 byte) redefined to BOOL (4 bytes)
The bool data type was redefined to BOOL (4 bytes on windows).
Removed the #define and fixed some of the warnings that were uncovered
by this.
Note that the fix also disables 2 warnings :
4800 : 'type' : forcing value to bool 'true' or 'false' (performance warning)
4805: 'operation' : unsafe mix of type 'type' and type 'type' in operation

These warnings will be handled in a separate bug, as they are performance related or bogus.

Fixed to int the return type of functions that return more than
2 distinct values.

The problem is that unimplemented WIN32 version of pthread_kill

mysqld_list_processes to set the procinfo to dead because
pthread_kill returns non zero. The dead procinfo would show
up on a second invocation of show processlist.

cee1b1fd99 Bug#25175 Too much memory used by MySQL grant system
Each time the server reloads privileges containing table grants, the
system will allocate too much memory than needed because of badly
chosen growth prediction in the underlying dynamic arrays.

This patch introduces a new signature to the hash container initializer
which enables a much more pessimistic approach in favour for more
efficient memory useage.

This patch was supplied by Google Inc.

81b1d712bf BUG#31168: @@hostname does not replicate
Problem: in mixed and statement mode, a query that refers to a
system variable will use the slave's value when replayed on
slave. So if the value of a system variable is inserted into a
table, the slave will differ from the master.
Fix: mark statements that refer to a system variable as "unsafe",
meaning they will be replicated by row in mixed mode and produce a warning
in statement mode. There are some exceptions: some variables are actually
replicated. Those should *not* be marked as unsafe.
BUG#34732: mysqlbinlog does not print default values for auto_increment variables
Problem: mysqlbinlog does not print default values for some variables,
including auto_increment_increment and others. So if a client executing
the output of mysqlbinlog has different default values, replication will
be wrong.
Fix: Always print default values for all variables that are replicated.
I need to fix the two bugs at the same time, because the test cases would
fail if I only fixed one of them.

b8b6c7fcf7 Applied InnoDB snapshot innodb-5.1-ss2298
Fixes the following bugs:

- Bug #33349: possible race condition revolving around data dictionary and repartitioning
Introduce retry/sleep logic as a workaround for a transient bug
where ::open fails for partitioned tables randomly if we are using
  one file per table.

- Bug #34053: normal users can enable innodb_monitor logging
In CREATE TABLE and DROP TABLE check whether the table in question is one
of the magic innodb_monitor tables and whether the user has enough rights
to mess with it before doing anything else.

- Bug #22868: 'Thread thrashing' with > 50 concurrent conns under an upd-intensive workloadw
- Bug #29560: InnoDB >= 5.0.30 hangs on adaptive hash rw-lock 'waiting for an X-lock'
This is a combination of changes that forward port the scalability fix applied to 5.0
  through r1001.
It reverts changes r149 and r122 (these were 5.1 specific changes made in lieu of
  scalability fix of 5.0)
Then it applies r1001 to 5.0 which is the original scalability fix.
Finally it applies r2082 which fixes an issue with the original fix.

- Bug #30930: Add auxiliary function to retrieve THD::thread_id
Add thd_get_thread_id() function. Also make check_global_access() function
visible to InnoDB under INNODB_COMPATIBILITY_HOOKS #define.

c9461608e7 Bug #32971 No user level error message from slave sql thread when ER_NO_DEFAULT_FOR_FIELD
The error message due to lack of the default value for an extra field
was not as informative as it should be.

Fixed with improving the scheme of gathering, propagating and reporting
errors in applying rows events.
The scheme is in the following.
Any kind of error of processing of a row event incidents are to be
registered with my_error().
In the end Rows_log_event::do_apply_event() invokes rli->report() with the
message to display consisting of all the errors.
This mimics `show warnings' displaying.
A simple test checks three errors in processing an event.
Two hunks - a user level error and pushing it into the list -
have been devoted to already fixed Bug@31702.

Some open issues relating to this artifact listed on BUG@21842 page and
on WL@3679.
Todo: to synchronize the statement in the tests comments on Update and Delete
events may not stop when an extra field does not have a default with wl@3228 spec.

BUG#33413 show binlog events fails if binlog has event size of close

The size of Append_block replication event was determined solely by
read_buffer_size whereas the rest of replication code deals with
max_allowed_packet.
When the former parameter was set to larger than the latter there were
two artifacts: the master could not read events from binlog;
show master events did not show.

Fixed with
- fragmenting the used io-cached buffer into pieces each size of less
  than max_allowed_packet (bug#30435)
- incrementing show-binlog-events handling thread's max_allowed_packet
with the max estimated for the replication header size

Currently this functionality includes:
- close_thread_tables()
- log_slow_statement().

After this patch and the subsequent patch for Bug#12713, it shall also include:
- ha_autocommit_or_rollback()
- net_end_statement()
- query_cache_end_of_result().

In future it may also include:
- mysql_reset_thd_for_next_command().

d8d6db6f78 Bug#31552 Replication breaks when deleting rows from out-of-sync table
without PK
Bug#31609 Not all RBR slave errors reported as errors
bug#32468 delete rows event on a table with foreign key constraint fails

The first two bugs comprise idempotency issues.
First, there was no error code reported under conditions of the bug
description although the slave sql thread halted.
Second, executions were different with and without presence of prim key in
the table.
Third, there was no way to instruct the slave whether to ignore an error
and skip to the following event or to halt.
Fourth, there are handler errors which might happen due to idempotent
applying of binlog but those were not listed among the "idempotent" error
list.

All the named issues are addressed.
Wrt to the 3rd, there is the new global system variable, changeble at run
time, which controls the slave sql thread behaviour.
The new variable allows further extensions to mimic the sql_mode
session/global variable.
To address the 4th, the new bug#32468 had to be fixed as it was staying
in the way.

55aa6376f1 Bug#30273 - merge tables: Can't lock file (errno: 155)
The patch for Bug 26379 (Combination of FLUSH TABLE and
REPAIR TABLE corrupts a MERGE table) fixed this bug too.
However it revealed a new bug that crashed the server.

Flushing a merge table at the moment when it is between open
and attach of children crashed the server.

The flushing thread wants to abort locks on the flushed table.
It calls ha_myisammrg::lock_count() and ha_myisammrg::store_lock()
on the TABLE object of the other thread.

Changed ha_myisammrg::lock_count() and ha_myisammrg::store_lock()
to accept non-attached children. ha_myisammrg::lock_count() returns
the number of MyISAM tables in the MERGE table so that the memory
allocation done by get_lock_data() is done correctly, even if the
children become attached before ha_myisammrg::store_lock() is
called. ha_myisammrg::store_lock() will not return any lock if the
children are not attached.

This is however a change in the handler interface. lock_count()
can now return a higher number than store_lock() stores locks.
This is more safe than the reverse implementation would be.
get_lock_data() in the SQL layer is adjusted accordingly. It sets
MYSQL_LOCK::lock_count based on the number of locks returned by
the handler::store_lock() calls, not based on the numbers returned
by the handler::lock_count() calls. The latter are only used for
allocation of memory now.

No test case. The test suite cannot reliably run FLUSH between
lock_count() and store_lock() of another thread. The bug report
contains a program that can repeat the problem with some
probability.

31d4e58ad4 Bug#31177: Server variables can't be set to their current values
Default values of variables were not subject to upper/lower bounds
and step, while setting variables was. Bounds and step are also
applied to defaults now; defaults are corrected quietly, values
given by the user are corrected, and a correction-warning is thrown
as needed. Lastly, very large values could wrap around, starting
from 0 again. They are bounded at the maximum value for the
respective data-type now if no lower maximum is specified in the
variable's definition.
