5f08a83186 Bug#8283 - OPTIMIZE TABLE causes data loss
OPTIMIZE TABLE with myisam_repair_threads > 1 performs a non-quick
parallel repair. This means that it does not only rebuild all
indexes, but also the data file.

Non-quick parallel repair works so that there is one thread per
index. The first of the threads rebuilds also the new data file.

The problem was that all threads shared the read io cache on the
old data file. If there were holes (deleted records) in the table,
the first thread skipped them, writing only contiguous, non-deleted
records to the new data file. Then it built the new index so that
its entries pointed to the correct record positions. But the other
threads didn't know the new record positions, but put the positions
from the old data file into the index.

The new design is so that there is a shared io cache which is filled
by the first thread (the data file writer) with the new contiguous
records and read by the other threads. Now they know the new record
positions.

Another problem was that for the parallel repair of compressed
tables a common bit_buff and rec_buff was used. I changed it so
that thread specific buffers are used for parallel repair.

A similar problem existed for checksum calculation. I made this
multi-thread safe too.

609a3cd295 Fixes a number of problems with time/datetime <-> string conversion functions:
- bug #11655 "Wrong time is returning from nested selects - maximum time exists
- input and output TIME values were not validated properly in several conversion functions
- bug #20927 "sec_to_time treats big unsigned as signed"
- integer overflows were not checked in several functions. As a result, input values like 2^32 or 3600*2^32 were treated as 0
- BIGINT UNSIGNED values were treated as SIGNED in several functions
- in cases where both input string truncation and out-of-range TIME value occur, only 'truncated incorrect time value' warning was produced

926106649f BUG#9678: Client library hangs after network communication failure
(back-port to 4.0)

Socket timeouts in client library were used only on Windows.
Additionally, in 4.0 write operations erroneously set read timeout.

The solution is to use socket timeouts in client library on all
systems were they are supported, and to differentiate between read
and write timeouts.

No test case is provided because it is impossible to simulate network
failure in current test suite.

89d759b93e Bug#21543: 5.0.24 breaks ABI compatibility for python bindings: \
InterfaceError on connect

Removed the bool flag from the st_mysql_options struct, since it adds
another word in size to the memory size and shifts member memory locations
down, both of which break binary-interface compatibility.

Instead, use a flag, 2**30, in the client_options bit-field to represent
that the client should check the SSL certificate of the server.

0f0ddc398a BUG#21051: RESET QUERY CACHE very slow when query_cache_type=0
There were two problems: RESET QUERY CACHE took a long time to complete
and other threads were blocked during this time.

The patch does three things:
1 fixes a bug with improper use of test-lock-test_again technique.
AKA Double-Checked Locking is applicable here only in few places.
2 Somewhat improves performance of RESET QUERY CACHE.
Do my_hash_reset() instead of deleting elements one by one. Note
however that the slowdown also happens when inserting into sorted
list of free blocks, should be rewritten using balanced tree.
3 Makes RESET QUERY CACHE non-blocking.
The patch adjusts the locking protocol of the query cache in the
following way: it introduces a flag flush_in_progress, which is
set when Query_cache::flush_cache() is in progress. This call
sets the flag on enter, and then releases the lock. Every other
call is able to acquire the lock, but does nothing if
flush_in_progress is set (as if the query cache is disabled).
The only exception is the concurrent calls to
Query_cache::flush_cache(), that are blocked until the flush is
over. When leaving Query_cache::flush_cache(), the lock is
acquired and the flag is reset, and one thread waiting on
Query_cache::flush_cache() (if any) is notified that it may
      proceed.

2ce1a07c89 A fix and a test case for Bug#15752 "Lost connection to MySQL server
when calling a SP from C API"

The bug was caused by lack of checks for misuse in mysql_real_query.
A stored procedure always returns at least one result, which is the
status of execution of the procedure itself.
This result, or so-called OK packet, is similar to a result
returned by INSERT/UPDATE/CREATE operations: it contains the overall
status of execution, the number of affected rows and the number of
warnings. The client test program attached to the bug did not read this
result and ivnoked the next query. In turn, libmysql had no check for
such scenario and mysql_real_query was simply trying to send that query
without reading the pending response, thus messing up the communication
protocol.

The fix is to return an error from mysql_real_query when it's called
prior to retrieval of all pending results.

d4450e6696 Fix for bug#18437 "Wrong values inserted with a before update trigger on
NDB table".

SQL-layer was not marking fields which were used in triggers as such. As
result these fields were not always properly retrieved/stored by handler
layer. So one might got wrong values or lost changes in triggers for NDB,
Federated and possibly InnoDB tables.
This fix solves the problem by marking fields used in triggers
appropriately.

Also this patch contains the following cleanup of ha_ndbcluster code:

We no longer rely on reading LEX::sql_command value in handler in order
to determine if we can enable optimization which allows us to handle REPLACE
statement in more efficient way by doing replaces directly in write_row()
method without reporting error to SQL-layer.
Instead we rely on SQL-layer informing us whether this optimization
applicable by calling handler::extra() method with
HA_EXTRA_WRITE_CAN_REPLACE flag.
As result we no longer apply this optimzation in cases when it should not
be used (e.g. if we have on delete triggers on table) and use in some
additional cases when it is applicable (e.g. for LOAD DATA REPLACE).

Finally this patch includes fix for bug#20728 "REPLACE does not work
correctly for NDB table with PK and unique index".

This was yet another problem which was caused by improper field mark-up.
During row replacement fields which weren't explicity used in REPLACE
statement were not marked as fields to be saved (updated) so they have
retained values from old row version. The fix is to mark all table
fields as set for REPLACE statement. Note that in 5.1 we already solve
this problem by notifying handler that it should save values from all
fields only in case when real replacement happens.

7dc30c68f4 Fixing BUG#17719 "Delete of binlog files fails on Windows"
and BUG#19208 "Test 'rpl000017' hangs on Windows".
Both bugs are caused by attempting to delete an opened
file and to create immediatedly a new one with the same
name. On Windows it can be supported only on NT-platforms
(by using FILE_SHARE_DELETE mode and with renaming the
file before deletion). Because deleting not-closed files
is not supported on all platforms (e.g. Win 98|ME) this
is to be considered harmful and should be eliminated by
 a "code redesign".

d8d42948b2 bug #20318 (ctype_ucs2_def test fails with embedded)
there was two problems about charsets in embedded server
1. mysys/charset.c - defined there default_charset_info variable is
modified by both server and client code (particularly when
--default-charset option is handled)
In embedded server we get two codelines modifying one variable.
I created separate default_client_charset_info for client code

2. mysql->charset and mysql->options.charset initialization isn't
properly done for embedded server - necessary calls added

Bug#17667: An attacker has the opportunity to bypass query logging.

This adds a new, local-only printf format specifier to our *printf functions

06ce215f10 BUG#18160 - Memory-/HEAP Table endless growing indexes
Updating data in HEAP table with BTREE index results in wrong index_length
counter value, which keeps growing after each update.

When inserting new record into tree counter is incremented by:
sizeof(TREE_ELEMENT) + key_size + tree->size_of_element
But when deleting element from tree it doesn't decrement counter by key_size:
sizeof(TREE_ELEMENT) + tree->size_of_element

This fix makes accurate allocated memory counter for tree. That is
decrease counter by key_size when deleting tree element.

 - Add new argument "ssl-verify-server-cert" to all mysql* clients which
   will activate the above option.

d0c6eb885d Bug#14980 - COUNT(*) incorrect on MyISAM table with certain INDEX
For "count(*) while index_column = value" an index read
is done. It consists of an index scan and retrieval of
each key.

For efficiency reasons the index scan stores the key in
the special buffer 'lastkey2' once only. At the first
iteration it notes this fact with the flag
HA_STATE_RNEXT_SAME in 'info->update'.

For efficiency reasons, the key retrieval for blobs
does not allocate a new buffer, but uses 'lastkey2'...

Now I clear the HA_STATE_RNEXT_SAME flag whenever the
buffer has been polluted. In this case, the index scan
copies the key value again (and sets the flag again).

f7d6fa6f17 A fix for Bug#7209 "Client error with "Access Denied" on updates
when high concurrency": remove HASH::current_record and make it
an external search parameter, so that it can not be the cause of a
race condition under high concurrent load.
The bug was in a race condition in table_hash_search,
when column_priv_hash.current_record was overwritten simultaneously
by multiple threads, causing the search for a suitable grant record

6b18dbef31 Bug#10932 - Building server with key limit of 128, makes test cases fail
Allow for configuration of the maximum number of indexes per table.
Added and used a configure.in macro.
Replaced fixed limits by the configurable limit.
Limited MyISAM indexes to its hard limit.
Fixed a bug in opt_range.cc for many indexes with InnoDB.

Tested for 2, 63, 64, 65, 127, 128, 129, 255, 256, and 257 indexes.
Testing this part of the bugfix requires rebuilding of the server
with different options. This cannot be done with our test suite.
Therefore I added the necessary test files to the bug report.
If you repeat the tests, please note that the ps_* tests fail for
everything but 64 indexes. This is because of differences in the
meta data, namely field lengths for index names etc.

74781d6559 Bug#14397 - OPTIMIZE TABLE with an open HANDLER causes a crash
Version for 5.0.
It fixes three problems:
1. The cause of the bug was that we did not check the table version for
the HANDLER ... READ commands. We did not notice when a table was
replaced by a new one. This can happen during ALTER TABLE, REPAIR
TABLE, and OPTIMIZE TABLE (there might be more cases). I call the fix
for this problem "the primary bug fix".
2. mysql_ha_flush() was not always called with a locked LOCK_open.
Though the function comment clearly said it must.
I changed the code so that the locking is done when required. I call
the fix for this problem "the secondary fix".
3. In 5.0 (not in 4.1 or 4.0) DROP TABLE had a possible deadlock flaw in
concur with FLUSH TABLES WITH READ LOCK. I call the fix for this
 problem "the 5.0 addendum fix".

4282ad92cb Bug #12796: Record lost in HEAP table
Two handler objects were present, one was used for an insert and the other for a select
The state of the statistics was local to the handler object and thus the other handler
object didn't notice the insert.
Fix included:
1) Add a new variable key_stat_version added to whenever statistics was considered in need
of update (previously key_stats_ok= FALSE in those places)
2) Add a new handler variable key_stat_version assigned whenever key_stats_ok= TRUE was set
previously
3) Fix records_in_range to return records if records <= 1
4) Fix records_in_range to add 2 to rec_per_key to ensure we don't specify 0 or 1 when it isn't
and thus invoking incorrect optimisations.
5) Fix unique key handling for HEAP table in records_in_range
