Problem was that link file (.isl) is also opened using O_DIRECT
mode and if this fails the whole create table fails on internal
error.
Fixed by not using O_DIRECT on link files as they are used only
on create table and startup and do not contain real data.
O_DIRECT failures are successfully ignored for data files
if O_DIRECT is not supported by file system on used
data directory.
Analysis: Problem is that punch hole does not know the actual page size
of the page and does the page belong to an data file or to a log file.
Fix: Pass down the file type and page size to os layer to be used
when trim is called. Also fix unsafe null pointer access to
actual write_size.
Step 1:
-- Remove page encryption from dictionary (per table
encryption will be handled by storing crypt_data to page 0)
-- Remove encryption/compression from os0file and all functions
before that (compression will be added to buf0buf.cc)
-- Use same CRYPT_SCHEME_1 for all encryption methods
-- Do some code cleanups to confort InnoDB coding style
after Operating system error number 36 in a file operation.
Analysis: os_file_get_status did not handle error ENAMETOOLONG
correctly.
Fix: Add correct handling for error ENAMETOOLONG. Note that on InnoDB
case the error is not passed all the way up to server. That would
be bigger rewamp.
New generation hard drives, SSDs and NVM devices support 4K
sector size. Supported sector size can be found using fstatvfs()
or GetDiskFreeSpace() functions.
Analysis: InnoDB writes also files that do not contain FIL-header.
This could lead incorrect analysis on os_fil_read_func function
when it tries to see is page page compressed based on FIL_PAGE_TYPE
field on FIL-header. With bad luck uncompressed page that does
not contain FIL-headed, the byte on FIL_PAGE_TYPE position could
indicate that page is page comrpessed.
Fix: Upper layer must indicate is file space page compressed
or not. If this is not yet known, we need to read the FIL-header
and find it out. Files that we know that are not page compressed
we can always just provide FALSE.
Analysis: This was merge error on file fil0fil.cc. fil_system mutex was taken twice because of this.
Fix: Remove unnecessary mutex_enter and fixed the issue with slow posix_fallocate usage.

SYNTAX: ATOMIC_WRITES=['DEFAULT','ON','OFF']
Idea here is to be able to define innodb_doublewrite = 1 but with following rules:
ATOMIC_WRITES='DEFAULT' - if innodb_use_atomic_writes = 1, we do not write to doublewrite buffer the changes
if innodb_use_atomic_writes = 0, we write to doublewrite buffer
ATOMIC_WRITES='ON' - do not write to doublewrite buffer
ATOMIC_WRITES='OFF' - write to doublewrite buffer
Note that doublewrite buffer can't be used if innodb_doublewrite = 0.
written and rest of the page is trimmed. In following writes
there is no need to trim again if write_size only increases
because rest of the page is already trimmed. If actual write
size decreases we need to trim again. Need to research if this
can happen frequently enough to make any effect.
Do not disable InnoDB inlining when UNIV_DEBUG is defined. The
inlining is now solely controlled by the preprocessor symbol
UNIV_MUST_NOT_INLINE and by any compiler options.
mtr_memo_contains(): Add an explicit type conversion from void*, so
that the function can be compiled by a C++ compiler. Previously, this
function was never seen by the C++ compiler, because it is only
present in UNIV_DEBUG builds and InnoDB inlining used to be disabled.
buf_flush_validate_skip(): A wrapper that skips most calls of
buf_flush_validate_low(). Invoked by debug assertions in
buf_flush_insert_into_flush_list() and buf_flush_remove().
fil_validate_skip(): A wrapper that skips most calls of
fil_validate(). Invoked by debug assertions in fil_io() and fil_io_wait().
os_aio_validate_skip(): A wrapper that skips most calls of
os_aio_validate(). Invoked by debug assertions in
os_aio_func(), os_aio_windows_handle() and os_aio_simulated_handle.
os_get_os_version(): Only include this function if __WIN__ is defined.
sync_array_deadlock_step(): Slight optimizations. This function is a
major CPU consumer in UNIV_SYNC_DEBUG builds.
This patch was originally developed by Vladislav Vaintroub.
The main changes are:
* Use TryEnterCriticalSection in os_fast_mutex_trylock().
* Use lightweight condition variables on Vista or later Windows;
but fall back to events on older Windows, such as XP.
This patch also fixes the following bugs:
bug# 52102 InnoDB Plugin shows performance drop compared to InnoDB
on Windows
bug# 53204 os_fastmutex_trylock is implemented incorrectly on Windows
rb://363 approved by Inaam Rana
This change is for performance optimization.
Fixed the performance schema instrumentation interface as follows:
- simplified mysql_unlock_mutex()
- simplified mysql_unlock_rwlock()
- simplified mysql_cond_signal()
- simplified mysql_cond_broadcast()
Changed the get_thread_XXX_locker apis to have one extra parameter,
to provide memory to the instrumentation implementation.
This API change allows to use memory provided by the caller,
to avoid having to use thread local storage.
Using this extra parameter will be done in a separate fix,
this change is for the interface only.
Adjusted all the code and unit tests accordingly.

branches/5.1: fix bug#3139: Mysql crashes: 'windows error 995'
after several selects on a large DB
During stress environment, Windows AIO may fail with error code
ERROR_OPERATION_ABORTED. InnoDB does not handle the error, rather
crashes. The cause of the error is unknown, but likely due to
faulty hardware or driver.
This patch introduces a new error code OS_FILE_OPERATION_ABORTED,
which maps to Windows ERROR_OPERATION_ABORTED (995). When the error
is detected during AIO, the InnoDB will issue a synchronous retry
(read/write).
This patch has been extensively tested by MySQL support.
