Removing the test case from mysql-5.5 list of disabled
test cases for the binlog suite. Actually, the test does
not exist in mysql-5.5, thus this is just a clean up.
Changed test suite to use --log-basename (to get the code tested)
Added --sync-sys=1 to test suite to speed it up.
Better error messages if something goes wrong with mysql_install_db
mysql-test/Makefile.am:
Removed not existing directory
mysql-test/lib/My/ConfigFactory.pm:

FAILED DROP DATABASE CAN BREAK STATEMENT BASED REPLICATION
The first phase of DROP DATABASE is to delete the tables in the database.
If deletion of one or more of the tables fail (e.g. due to a FOREIGN KEY
constraint), DROP DATABASE will be aborted. However, some tables could
still have been deleted. The problem was that nothing would be written
to the binary log in this case, so any slaves would not delete these tables.
Therefore the master and the slaves would get out of sync.
This patch fixes the problem by making sure that DROP TABLE is written
to the binary log for the tables that were in fact deleted by the failed
DROP DATABASE statement.
Test case added to binlog.binlog_database.test.
- Fixed some issues with partitions and connection_string, which also fixed lp:716890 "Pre- and post-recovery crash in Aria"
- Fixed wrong assert in Aria
Now need to merge with latest xtradb before pushing
sql/ha_partition.cc:

Removed references to pstack
sql/partition_element.h:
Ensure that connect_string is initialized
storage/maria/ma_key_recover.c:
Fixed wrong assert
mysql-test/suite/binlog/r/binlog_killed.result:
bug in the test case fixed: the function *must* be declared as
NOT DETERMINISTIC because it has side effects (it waits on
the get_lock() when invoked more than once).
When declared DETERMINISTIC, MariaDB feels free to cache the result
and shortcut the execution, which breaks the test logic
mysql-test/suite/binlog/t/binlog_killed.test:

- MWL#47, allowing to annotate row-based binlog events with the SQL test of
the originating query (eg. in mysqlbinlog output).
- row_based_replication_without_primary_key.patch, providing more intelligent
selection of index to use on slave when applying row-based binlog events
for tables with no primary key.
- Make mysqlbinlog omit redundant `use` around BEGIN/SAVEPOINT/COMMIT/
ROLLBACK in 5.0 binlogs.
This patch adds options to annotate the binlog (and the mysqlbinlog
output) with the original SQL query for queries that are logged
using row-based replication.
It includes speed optimizations for HANDLER READ by caching as much as possible in HANDLER OPEN
Other things:
- Added mysqld option --disable-thr-alarm to be able to benchmark things without thr_alarm
- Changed 'Locked' state to 'System lock' and 'Table lock' (these where used in the code but never shown to end user)
- Better error message if mysql_install_db.sh fails
- Moved handler function prototypes to sql_handler.h
- Remove not anymore used 'thd->locked' member
include/thr_alarm.h:
Added my_disable_thr_alarm
include/thr_lock.h:

Problem: Warnings for truncated data were generated on hosts with
long host names because @@hostname was inserted into a CHAR(40) column.
Fix: Change CHAR(40) to TEXT.
Major replication test framework cleanup. This does the following:
- Ensure that all tests clean up the replication state when they
finish, by making check-testcase check the output of SHOW SLAVE STATUS.
This implies:
- Slave must not be running after test finished. This is good
because it removes the risk for sporadic errors in subsequent
tests when a test forgets to sync correctly.
- Slave SQL and IO errors must be cleared when test ends. This is
good because we will notice if a test gets an unexpected error in
the slave threads near the end.
- We no longer have to clean up before a test starts.
- Ensure that all tests that wait for an error in one of the slave
threads waits for a specific error. It is no longer possible to
source wait_for_slave_[sql|io]_to_stop.inc when there is an error
in one of the slave threads. This is good because:
- If a test expects an error but there is a bug that causes
another error to happen, or if it stops the slave thread without
an error, then we will notice.
- When developing tests, wait_for_*_to_[start|stop].inc will fail
immediately if there is an error in the relevant slave thread.
Before this patch, we had to wait for the timeout.
- Remove duplicated and repeated code for setting up unusual replication
topologies. Now, there is a single file that is capable of setting
up arbitrary topologies (include/rpl_init.inc, but
include/master-slave.inc is still available for the most common
topology). Tests can now end with include/rpl_end.inc, which will clean
up correctly no matter what topology is used. The topology can be
changed with include/rpl_change_topology.inc.
- Improved debug information when tests fail. This includes:
- debug info is printed on all servers configured by include/rpl_init.inc
- User can set $rpl_debug=1, which makes auxiliary replication files
print relevant debug info.
- Improved documentation for all auxiliary replication files. Now they
describe purpose, usage, parameters, and side effects.
- Many small code cleanups:
- Made have_innodb.inc output a sensible error message.
- Moved contents of rpl000017-slave.sh into rpl000017.test
- Added mysqltest variables that expose the current state of
disable_warnings/enable_warnings and friends.
- Too many to list here: see per-file comments for details.
client/mysqltest.cc:
Added the following variables:
$ENABLED_WARNINGS
$ENABLED_QUERY_LOG
$ENABLED_RESULT_LOG
$ENABLED_ABORT_ON_ERROR
$ENABLED_INFO

- Replace 'start slave; wait_for_slave_to_start.inc' by
include/start_slave.inc.
- Use new file rpl_connect.inc to reconnect on all connections, since the
connections are used by rpl_end.inc.
- Use wait_for_slave_param.inc instead of wait_for_slave_io_to_start.inc,
since wait_for_slave_io_to_start.inc now fails if the IO thread has
an error. In this particular test case, it is normal that the IO thread
has an error.
- Changed wait_for_slave_io_error.inc so that it waits
for the IO thread to stop. However, in this test case,
the IO thread only gets a non-fatal error, so it does
not stop. So we set $slave_io_error_is_nonfatal=1 to
prevent wait_for_slave_io_error.inc from waiting.

mysql-test/include/analyze-sync_with_master.test:
- improved debug output printed when sync_slave_with_master or
sync_with_master fails
- Added documentation
mysql-test/include/assert.inc:
Added file to facilitate assertions.
mysql-test/include/begin_include_file.inc:
New auxiliary file to be used by replication helper files like
rpl_init.inc, stop_slave.inc, wait_for_slave_*.inc, etc. Such
helper files should source rpl_begin_include_file.inc at the
beginning and rpl_end_include_file.inc at the end. That adds the
following features:
- When a test sources the file, the file name is printed to the
result file. This is good because it makes result files easier to
follow.
- When a helper file sources a second helper file recursively, then
the name of the second file is not printed. This is good because
it would make the result file harder to follow if all the internal
calls of all helper files were printed.
- When $rpl_debug is set, all internal calls are printed to the
result file. This is good because it helps when debugging test
cases. (With $rpl_debug=1, many of the helper files now print other
relevant debug info too.)
- When a file needs to turn off the query log or the warning log
(disable_query_log/disable_warnings), then the file can tell
rpl_begin_include_file.inc about it. Then rpl_begin_include_file.inc
will turn off the log correctly, and rpl_end_include_file.inc
will turn on the log correctly. Note that if rpl_a.inc sources
rpl_b.inc and both files need to turn off the log, then the
log is not turned on when rpl_b.inc ends (because rpl_a.inc
still needs the log off). This makes it easier to program
replication helper files.
mysql-test/include/check-testcase.test:
Made check-testcase ensure that the slave status is reset
after the test has finished.
mysql-test/include/check_slave_is_running.inc:
- Use existing framework (check_slave_param.inc) instead of ad-hoc code
to check value of slave parameters.
- Use rpl_begin_include_file.inc to improve debug capabilities.
- improve documentation.
mysql-test/include/check_slave_no_error.inc:
- Use rpl_begin_include_file.inc to improve debug capabilities.
- improve documentation.
mysql-test/include/check_slave_param.inc:
- Use rpl_begin_include_file.inc to improve debug capabilities.
- improve documentation.
mysql-test/include/cleanup_fake_relay_log.inc:
- Use RESET SLAVE instead of manual file removal. This also
resets other replication state.
- verify that RESET SLAVE correctly removed files.
mysql-test/include/diff_tables.inc:
- Use rpl_begin_include_file.inc to improve debug capabilities.
- Improved documentation.
- file now supports an arbitrary number of tables
(not just two). The tables are now given as a comma-separated
list instead of as two variables.
- You no longer have to specify database name for each table.
If no database is specified, it defaults to the current
database.
- File now restores the connection at the end.
mysql-test/include/end_include_file.inc:
New file to be sourced at the end of auxiliary replication include
files. See include/rpl_begin_include_file.inc for details.
mysql-test/include/file_does_not_exist.inc:
Added .inc file to check that a given file is removed.
mysql-test/include/force_restart.inc:
Added file to force server restart after test
mysql-test/include/force_restart_if_skipped.inc:
Added file to force server restart after test, if the test is skipped
mysql-test/include/have_innodb.inc:
Made have_innodb.inc print sensible message when innodb is
not supported.
mysql-test/include/io_thd_fault_injection.inc:
Use rpl_server_restart.inc instead of restart_mysqld.inc in rpl tests
mysql-test/include/kill_query_and_diff_master_slave.inc:
Renamed diff_master_slave.inc to rpl_diff.inc
mysql-test/include/master-slave.inc:
- Use new rpl_init.inc file
- Now, we don't do 'drop table' in master-slave.inc any more. That's good
because drop table has nothing to do with configuring replication servers.
- master-slave.inc now supports the additional parameter
$rpl_server_count. By default, master-slave.inc only
configures two servers; if $rpl_server_count is set, it
configures that many servers. Only the second server is
a slave; the rest are not part of the replication topology.
mysql-test/include/mtr_check.sql:
Removed unneeded SP (use include/force_restart.inc instead)
mysql-test/include/mysqldump.inc:
diff_tables.inc now takes only one parameter.
mysql-test/include/ndb_master-slave.inc:
use master-slave.inc instead of ad-hoc calls to 'connect'
mysql-test/include/ndb_master-slave_2ch.inc:
use rpl_init.inc instead of ad-hoc setup
mysql-test/include/ndb_not_readonly.inc:
turn off query log while executing this script.
this was previously done by the caller. now it's done in the script.
mysql-test/include/report-features.test:
add newline at end of file
mysql-test/include/reset_master_and_slave.inc:
rpl_reset.inc replaces this file
mysql-test/include/restart_mysqld.inc:
force caller to use rpl_restart_server.inc instead if replication is configured
mysql-test/include/rpl_change_topology.inc:
New file to change replication topology on the fly. This is used
by rpl_init.inc internally, but is also used by test cases
that need to change topology (e.g., rpl.rpl_circular_for_4_hosts, which
reconfigures the topology to make a failover).
mysql-test/include/rpl_connect.inc:
New file to create a named connection. This file knows about a number
of "standard" connections (master, slave, server_1, etc), and knows how
each of them should normally be created. This is mostly used internally
(e.g., by rpl_init.inc, master-slave.inc, ndb_master-slave_2ch.inc etc),
but can also be used by tests that need to bring a connection up after
disconnecting.
mysql-test/include/rpl_connection.inc:
New file to change connection. This prints the name of the connection.
However, for files that source rpl_begin_include_file.inc, it does not
print the name of the connection unless $rpl_debug=1. This is good
because printing something every time the .inc file changed connection
would make the result log harder to read.
mysql-test/include/rpl_diff.inc:
- Made file capable to compare many servers
- Hence renamed it to rpl_diff.inc
- If no server list is specified, use all servers from
server_1 to server_$rpl_server_count
- It now writes the statement to file before executing it.
That means it will be subject to SQL string interpolation,
but not shell string interpolation (which may be
platform-dependent)
mysql-test/include/rpl_diff_tables.inc:
Removed this file, since its functionality has been merged into
diff_tables.inc.
mysql-test/include/rpl_end.inc:
Renamed master-slave-end.inc to rpl_end.inc, and made it
work with arbitrary replication topologies (as configured
with rpl_init.inc and possibly rpl_change_topology.inc). Also
made it assert that no slave thread has an error. Made it
assert that no slave thread is stopped, unless
$rpl_only_running_threads=1.
mysql-test/include/rpl_for_each_slave.inc:
New test script that executes a command once for each slave.
This is used by include/rpl_start_slaves.inc and
include/rpl_stop_slaves.inc and could possibly be useful for other
custom scripts too.
mysql-test/include/rpl_generate_sync_chain.inc:
New file that computes the variable $rpl_sync_chain. This variable
determines in what order slaves are synced by include/rpl_sync.inc.
The variable is recomputed the first time that include/rpl_sync.inc
is called after rpl_change_topology.inc.
mysql-test/include/rpl_init.inc:
Made file work for arbitrary topologies instead of just 4-server
circle. This file is used by master-slave.inc, rpl_master-slave_2ch.inc
etc, and also by tests that need other specific replication topologies.
mysql-test/include/rpl_reconnect.inc:
New auxiliary file that will reconnect many clients to a given
server. All clients configured by rpl_init.inc will reconnect.
mysql-test/include/rpl_reset.inc:
Made file work for arbitrary replication topologies,
check for errors, and sync all threads. Also removed
'drop table' because that has nothing to do with replication.
mysql-test/include/rpl_restart_server.inc:
New auxiliary file that restarts a server.
mysql-test/include/rpl_start_server.inc:
New auxiliary file that starts a server that has been shut down.
mysql-test/include/rpl_start_slaves.inc:
New auxiliary file to start all slaves configured by rpl_init.inc
This is used internally by rpl_init.inc but may also be used by tests
that want to bring all slaves up.
mysql-test/include/rpl_stop_server.inc:
New auxiliary file that shuts down a server.
mysql-test/include/rpl_stop_slaves.inc:
New auxiliary file to stop all slaves configured rpl_init.inc. This
is used internally by rpl_end.inc, but may also be used by tests that
want to stop all slaves.
mysql-test/include/rpl_sync.inc:
Made file work for arbitrary replication topologies (as configured
by rpl_init.inc and possibly rpl_change_topology.inc) instead of
just 4-server circle.
mysql-test/include/save_master_pos.inc:
Auxiliary file to save the master position.
mysql-test/include/setup_fake_relay_log.inc:
- Moved complicated logic to write to file into
write_var_to_file.inc, so that it can be re-used by
other tests.
- Added call to show_rpl_debug_info and die in error case.
mysql-test/include/show_rpl_debug_info.inc:
- Made file print NOW()
- Made file print both SHOW MASTER STATUS, SHOW SLAVE HOSTS,
and SHOW SLAVE STATUS.
- Made file print debug info for all servers configured by
rpl_init.inc
mysql-test/include/show_slave_status.inc:
- Made file use echo instead of SELECT to print variables.
- Improved comments.
- Use variable names that are less likely to be used by other tests.
mysql-test/include/start_slave.inc:
- Made test use rpl_begin_include_file.inc to improve debug
capabilities.
- improved documentation
mysql-test/include/stop_slave.inc:
- Made script capable to detect which threads are running
and stop only those.
- Improved documentation
mysql-test/include/stop_slave_io.inc:
Added file to stop the slave IO thread.
mysql-test/include/stop_slave_sql.inc:
Added file to stop the slave SQL thread.
mysql-test/include/sync_io_with_master.inc:
Added file to sync the IO thread of the current connection, up to
a previously saved position.
mysql-test/include/sync_slave_io_with_master.inc:
- Made file work with arbitrarily-named connections.
- Made file use rpl_begin_include_file.inc to improve debug
capabilities.
mysql-test/include/sync_slave_sql_with_io.inc:
Added file to sync only the SQL thread, up to the position copied
in the IO thread.
mysql-test/include/wait_for_query_to_fail.inc:
Added file to wait for a query to fail.
mysql-test/include/wait_for_slave_io_error.inc:
- Use rpl_begin_include_file.inc to improve debug capabilities.
- Use existing atom include/show_slave_status.inc to print error
message.
- Improve comments.
******
- This file now waits until the slave IO thread has completely
stopped (to avoid races in tests).
- Some IO thread errors are non-fatal and don't cause the slave
IO thread to stop. To allow tests to wait for such errors, we
add the parameters $slave_io_error_is_nonfatal. If
$slave_io_error_is_nonfatal is set, this script does not wait
for the IO thread to stop.
mysql-test/include/wait_for_slave_io_to_start.inc:
- Made script fail if the IO thread has an error.
- Use rpl_begin_include_file.inc to improve debug capabilities.
- Improved documentation.
mysql-test/include/wait_for_slave_io_to_stop.inc:
- Fail if server is not configured as slave. Previously, the
script accepted servers not configured as slave because there
was cleanup code called from master-slave.inc that would execute
STOP SLAVE on both master and slave. Now all tests have to
clean up after themselves, so we don't have to call stop slave
at the beginning of tests. Hence, we disallow calling this
script on servers not configured as slaves.
- Use rpl_begin_include_file.inc to improve debug capabilities.
- Improved documentation.
mysql-test/include/wait_for_slave_param.inc:
- Added $slave_error_param. This variable can be set to
Slave_IO_Errno or Slave_SQL_Errno, in which case the
script fails if the corresponding column in the output from
SHOW SLAVE STATUS is nonzero.
- Replaced exit by die.
- Made it print timeout seconds correctly in error message.
- Removed $slave_error_message. This is not needed.
- Use rpl_begin_include_file.inc for better debug capabilities.
mysql-test/include/wait_for_slave_sql_error.inc:
- Use rpl_begin_include_file.inc for better debug capabilities.
- Improve documentation
- Use existing atom show_slave_status.inc to print error.
mysql-test/include/wait_for_slave_sql_error_and_skip.inc:
- Use rpl_begin_include_file.inc and rpl_connection.inc for better
debug capabilities.
- Improve documentation
mysql-test/include/wait_for_slave_sql_to_start.inc:
- Use rpl_begin_include_file.inc for better debug capabilities.
- Improve documentation
mysql-test/include/wait_for_slave_sql_to_stop.inc:
- Fail if Last_SQL_Errno is nonzero.
- Fail if server is not configured as slave. Previously, the
script accepted servers not configured as slave because there
was cleanup code called from master-slave.inc that would execute
STOP SLAVE on both master and slave. Now all tests have to

mysql-test/include/wait_for_slave_to_stop.inc:
- Use rpl_begin_include_file.inc for better debug capabilities.
- Improve documentation
mysql-test/include/write_var_to_file.inc:

Since test sets binlog_format internally, it's useless to
re-run it. Hence we source have_binlog_format_statement.inc
mysql-test/suite/binlog/t/binlog_sql_mode.test:
- Test does not use replication, so we remove master-slave.inc.
- mysqltest magically adds --force-if-open to $MYSQL_BINLOG in test
files that source master-slave.inc. So now we have to add
--force-if-open explicitly.

mysql-test/suite/rpl/t/rpl_auto_increment_bug33029.test:
- This test replicates, so moved it to rpl suite.
- This test uses a fake relay log, so use
include/setup_fake_relay_log.inc and cleanup_fake_relay_log.inc
instead of ad-hoc code.
- Made test clean up replication state (rpl_end.inc)
mysql-test/suite/rpl/t/rpl_auto_increment_update_failure.test:

Use new names of mtr variables (introduced by the changes in
include/circular_rpl_init.inc).
mysql-test/suite/rpl/t/rpl_circular_for_4_hosts.test:
- Use rpl_init.inc instead of circular_rpl_for_4_hosts.inc.
Connections have been renamed (server_[1234] instead of master_[abcd]),
we use rpl_sync.inc instead of circular_rpl_for_4_hosts_sync.inc,
we use the new rpl_end.inc to clean up instead of doing it
manually, and we use rpl_change_topology.inc instead of manual
reconfiguration.
- Added comment to make test understandable.
- the test contained a race condition. server_4 was not sync'ed. This could
cause sql_slave_skip_counter to have the value 1 when the test ended, so
check-testcase would complain. Added 'sync_slave_with_master server_4'.

- don't drop lots of things at the beginning of the test

when generating new name.
If find_uniq_filename returns an error, then this error is not
being propagated upwards, and execution does not report error to
the user (although a entry in the error log is generated).
Additionally, some more errors were ignored in new_file_impl:
- when writing the rotate event
- when reopening the index and binary log file
This patch addresses this by propagating the error up in the
execution stack. Furthermore, when rotation of the binary log
fails, an incident event is written, because there may be a
chance that some changes for a given statement, were not properly
logged. For example, in SBR, LOAD DATA INFILE statement requires
more than one event to be logged, should rotation fail while
logging part of the LOAD DATA events, then the logged data would
become inconsistent with the data in the storage engine.

at the end of the execution if the error is set or not in THD.
sql/sql_parse.cc:
Catching the rotate_relay_log and rotate_and_purge return values.
Semantic change in reload_acl_and_cache so that we report errors
in binlog interactions through the write_to_binlog output parameter.
If there was any failure while rotating the binary log, we should
then report the error to the client when handling SQLCOMM_FLUSH.
It is not necessary to support INSERT DELAYED for a single value insert,
while we do not support that for multi-values insert when binlog is
enabled in SBR.
The lock_type is upgrade to TL_WRITE from TL_WRITE_DELAYED for
INSERT DELAYED for single value insert as multi-values insert
did when binlog is enabled. Then it's safe. And binlog it as
INSERT without DELAYED.

2. Clear code to not binlog INSERT DELAYED STMT in SBR.
3. Get rid of privilege check for log_on.
When using BINLOG statement to execute rows log events, session variables
foreign_key_checks and unique_checks are changed temporarily. As each rows
log event has their own special session environment and its own
foreign_key_checks and unique_checks can be different from current session
which executing the BINLOG statement. But these variables are not restored
correctly after BINLOG statement. This problem will cause that the following
statements fail or generate unexpected data.
In this patch, code is added to backup and restore these two variables.
So BINLOG statement will not affect current session's variables again.

win x86 debug_max
The windows MTR run exhibited a different test execution
ordering (due to the fact that in these platforms MTR is invoked
with --parallel > 1). This uncovered a bug in the aforementioned
test case, which is triggered by the following conditions:
1. server is not restarted between two different tests;
2. the test before binlog.binlog_row_failure_mixing_engines
issues flush logs;
3. binlog.binlog_row_failure_mixing_engines uses binlog
positions to limit the output of show_binlog_events;
4. binlog.binlog_row_failure_mixing_engines does not state which
binlog file to use, thence it uses a wrong binlog file with
the correct position.
There are two possible fixes: 1. make sure that the test start
from a clean slate - binlog wise; 2. in addition to the position,
also state the binary log file before sourcing
show_binlog_events.inc .
We go for fix#1, ie, deploy a RESET MASTER before the test is
actually started.

Make the binlog handlerton participate in START TRANSACTION WITH CONSISTENT
SNAPSHOT, recording the binlog position corresponding to the snapshot taken
in other MVCC storage engines.
Expose this consistent binlog position as the new status variables
binlog_trx_file and binlog_trx_position. This enables to get a fully
non-locking snapshot of the database (including binlog position for
slave provisioning), avoiding the need for FLUSH TABLES WITH READ LOCK.
Modify mysqldump to detect if the server supports this new feature, and
if so, avoid FLUSH TABLES WITH READ LOCK for --single-transaction
--master-data snapshot backups.
After the WL#2687, the binlog_cache_size and max_binlog_cache_size affect both the
stmt-cache and the trx-cache. This means that the resource used is twice the amount
expected/defined by the user.
The binlog_cache_use is incremented when the stmt-cache or the trx-cache is used
and binlog_cache_disk_use is incremented when the disk space from the stmt-cache or the
trx-cache is used. This behavior does not allow to distinguish which cache may be harming
performance due to the extra disk accesses and needs to have its in-memory cache
increased.
To fix the problem, we introduced two new options and status variables related to the
stmt-cache:
Options:
. binlog_stmt_cache_size
. max_binlog_stmt_cache_size
Status Variables:
. binlog_stmt_cache_use
. binlog_stmt_cache_disk_use
So there are
. binlog_cache_size that defines the size of the transactional cache for
updates to transactional engines for the binary log.
. binlog_stmt_cache_size that defines the size of the statement cache for
updates to non-transactional engines for the binary log.
. max_binlog_cache_size that sets the total size of the transactional
cache.
. max_binlog_stmt_cache_size that sets the total size of the statement
cache.
. binlog_cache_use that identifies the number of transactions that used the
temporary transactional binary log cache.
. binlog_cache_disk_use that identifies the number of transactions that used
the temporary transactional binary log cache but that exceeded the value of
binlog_cache_size.
. binlog_stmt_cache_use that identifies the number of statements that used the
temporary non-transactional binary log cache.
. binlog_stmt_cache_disk_use that identifies the number of statements that used
the temporary non-transactional binary log cache but that exceeded the value of
binlog_stmt_cache_size.

The binlog_cache_use is incremented twice when changes to a transactional table
are committed, i.e. TC_LOG_BINLOG::log_xid calls is called. The problem happens
because log_xid calls both binlog_flush_stmt_cache and binlog_flush_trx_cache
without checking if such caches are empty thus unintentionally increasing the
binlog_cache_use value twice.
Although not explicitly mentioned in the bug, the binlog_cache_disk_use presents
the same problem.
The binlog_cache_use and binlog_cache_disk_use are status variables that are
incremented when transactional (i.e. trx-cache) or non-transactional (i.e.
stmt-cache) changes are committed. They are used to compute the ratio between
the use of disk and memory while gathering updates for a transaction.
The problem reported is fixed by avoiding incrementing the binlog_cache_use
and binlog_cache_disk_use if a cache is empty. We also have decided to increment
both variables when a cache is truncated as the cache is used although its
content is discarded and is not written to the binary log.
In this patch, we take the opportunity to re-organize the code around the
function binlog_flush_trx_cache and binlog_flush_stmt_cache.

sql/log.cc:
There are four changes in here:
. Computed statistics on binlog_cache_use and binlog_cache_disk_use while
resting the cache.
. Refactored the code so binlog_flush_cache handles both the trx-cache and
stmt-cache.
. There are functions that encapsulate the calls to binlog_flush_cache and
make easier to read the code.
. binlog_commit_flush_stmt_cache is now taking into account the result:
success or error.
sql/log_event.h:
Guaranteed Xid_log_event is always classified as a transactional event.
The binlog_cache_use is incremented twice when changes to a transactional table

because log_xid calls both binlog_flush_stmt_cache and binlog_flush_trx_cache

as the cache is used although its content is discarded and is not written to the
binary log.
Note that binlog_cache_use is incremented for both types of cache, transactional

to the binlog_cache_disk_use.

temp table
This patch introduces two key changes in the replication's behavior.
Firstly, it reverts part of BUG#51894 which puts any update to temporary tables
into the trx-cache. Now, updates to temporary tables are handled according to
the type of their engines as a regular table.
Secondly, an unsafe mixed statement, (i.e. a statement that access transactional
table as well non-transactional or temporary table, and writes to any of them),
are written into the trx-cache in order to minimize errors in the execution when
the statement logging format is in use.
Such changes has a direct impact on which statements are classified as unsafe
statements and thus part of BUG#53259 is reverted.
'CREATE TABLE IF NOT EXISTS ... SELECT' behaviour
BUG#47132, BUG#47442, BUG49494, BUG#23992 and BUG#48814 will disappear
automatically after the this patch.
BUG#55617 is fixed by this patch too.
This is the 5.5 part.
It implements:
- 'CREATE TABLE IF NOT EXISTS ... SELECT' statement will not insert
anything and binlog anything if the table already exists.
It only generate a warning that table already exists.
- A couple of test cases for the behavior changing.
* no automatic --loose-skip-innodb added by mtr based on the test name.
instead loose-skip-innodb is now in the default_mysqld.cnf
* have_innodb_plugin.inc is changed to give a verbose "skip" message
(instead of "require: true")
* My::Suite class. It's support in mtr, and everywhere
* support for suite.pm
* when sorting tests, take combinations into account
* support for SUITENAME_COMBINATIONS
* no special treatment for innodb_plugin in mtr_cases.pm
* two special pre-created config groups: ENV and OPT
* allow option names to start from #
* allow magic option to have an argument
* remove dead code
* fix @-substitution to works as expected
* new processes take the value of $opt_verbose automatically, no need to pass it to a constructor
* innodb_plugin suite uses suite.pm and combinations file to test as much as possible
(innodb plugin, xtradb plugin, xtradb static - whatever available)
* besides test-master.opt and test-slave.opt a test.opt file is also
loaded, both for master and slave
* .opt files for all included files are loaded too
* progress report in the xterm titlebar
After BUG#36649, warnings for sub-statements are cleared when a
new sub-statement is started. This is problematic since it suppresses
warnings for unsafe statements in some cases. It is important that we
always give a warning to the client, because the user needs to know
when there is a risk that the slave goes out of sync.
We fixed the problem by generating warning messages for unsafe statements
while returning from a stored procedure, function, trigger or while
executing a top level statement.
We also started checking unsafeness when both performance and log tables are
used. This is necessary after the performance schema which does a distinction
between performance and log tables.
mysql-test/extra/rpl_tests/create_recursive_construct.inc:

With statement- or mixed-mode logging, "LOAD DATA INFILE" queries
are written to the binlog using special types of log events.
When mysqlbinlog reads such events, it re-creates the file in a
temporary directory with a generated filename and outputs a
"LOAD DATA INFILE" query where the filename is replaced by the
generated file. The temporary file is not deleted by mysqlbinlog
after termination.
To fix the problem, in mixed mode we go to row-based. In SBR, we
document it to remind user the tmpfile is left in a temporary
directory.

Added code to go to row-based in mixed mode for
'load data infile ...' statement
With statement- or mixed-mode logging, "LOAD DATA INFILE" queries
are written to the binlog using special types of log events.
When mysqlbinlog reads such events, it re-creates the file in a
temporary directory with a generated filename and outputs a
"LOAD DATA INFILE" query where the filename is replaced by the
generated file. The temporary file is not deleted by mysqlbinlog
after termination.
To fix the problem, in mixed mode we go to row-based. In SBR, we
document it to remind user the tmpfile is left in a temporary
directory.

BUG#54872 MBR: replication failure caused by using tmp table inside transaction
Changed criteria to classify a statement as unsafe in order to reduce the
number of spurious warnings. So a statement is classified as unsafe when
there is on-going transaction at any point of the execution if:
1. The mixed statement is about to update a transactional table and
a non-transactional table.
2. The mixed statement is about to update a temporary transactional
table and a non-transactional table.
3. The mixed statement is about to update a transactional table and
read from a non-transactional table.
4. The mixed statement is about to update a temporary transactional
table and read from a non-transactional table.
5. The mixed statement is about to update a non-transactional table
and read from a transactional table when the isolation level is
lower than repeatable read.
After updating a transactional table if:
6. The mixed statement is about to update a non-transactional table
and read from a temporary transactional table.
7. The mixed statement is about to update a non-transactional table
and read from a temporary transactional table.
8. The mixed statement is about to update a non-transactionala table
and read from a temporary non-transactional table.
9. The mixed statement is about to update a temporary non-transactional
table and update a non-transactional table.
10. The mixed statement is about to update a temporary non-transactional
table and read from a non-transactional table.
11. A statement is about to update a non-transactional table and the
option variables.binlog_direct_non_trans_update is OFF.
The reason for this is that locks acquired may not protected a concurrent
transaction of interfering in the current execution and by consequence in
the result. So the patch reduced the number of spurious unsafe warnings.
Besides we fixed a regression caused by BUG#51894, which makes temporary
tables to go into the trx-cache if there is an on-going transaction. In
MIXED mode, the patch for BUG#51894 ignores that the trx-cache may have
updates to temporary non-transactional tables that must be written to the
binary log while rolling back the transaction.
So we fix this problem by writing the content of the trx-cache to the
binary log while rolling back a transaction if a non-transactional
temporary table was updated and the binary logging format is MIXED.
switching binlog format to ROW
BUG 52616 fixed the case which the user would switch from STMT to
ROW binlog format, but the server would silently ignore it. After
that fix thd->is_current_stmt_binlog_format_row() reports correct
value at logging time and events are logged in ROW (as expected)
instead of STMT as they were previously and wrongly logged.
However, the fix was only partially complete, because on
disconnect, at THD cleanup, the implicit logging of temporary
tables is conditionally performed. If the binlog_format==ROW and
thd->is_current_stmt_binlog_format_row() is true then DROPs are
not logged. Given that the user can switch from STMT to ROW, this
is wrong because the server cannot tell, just by relying on the
ROW binlog format, that the tables have been dropped before. This
is effectively similar to the MIXED scenario when a switch from
STMT to ROW is triggered.
We fix this by removing this condition from
close_temporary_tables.

The default storage engine is changed from MyISAM to
InnoDB, in all builds except for the embedded server.
In addition, the following system variables are
changed:
* innodb_file_per_table is enabled
* innodb_strict_mode is enabled
* innodb_file_format_name_update is changed
to 'Barracuda'
The test suite is changed so that tests that do not
explicitly include the have_innodb.inc are run with
--default-storage-engine=MyISAM. This is to ease the
transition, so that most regression tests are run
with the same engine as before.
Some tests are disabled for the embedded server
regression test, as the output of certain statements
will be different that for the regular server
(i.e SELECT @@default_storage_engine). This is to
ease transition.
mysql-test/mysql-test-run.pl:
The regression test suite now adds a
--default-storage-engine=MyISAM for all non-innodb
tests. This behaviour can be controlled by the

errors
In the fix of BUG#39934 in 5.1-rep+3, errors are generated when
binlog_format=row and a statement modifies a table restricted to
statement-logging (ER_BINLOG_ROW_MODE_AND_STMT_ENGINE); or if
binlog_format=statement and a statement modifies a table restricted to
row-logging (ER_BINLOG_STMT_MODE_AND_ROW_ENGINE).
However, some DDL statements that lock tables (e.g. ALTER TABLE,
CREATE INDEX and CREATE TRIGGER) were causing spurious errors,
although no row might be inserted into the binary log.
To fix the problem, we tagged statements that may generate
rows into the binary log and thence the warning messages are
only printed out when the appropriate conditions hold and rows
might be changed.
sql/log_event.cc:
Reorganized the Query_log_event's constructor based on the

The thd->variables.option_bits & OPTION_BIN_LOG is currently abused:
it's both a system variable and an implementation switch. The current
approach to this option bit breaks the session variable encapsulation.
Besides it is allowed to change @@session.sql_bin_log within a
transaction what may lead to not correctly logging a transaction.
To fix the problems, we created a thd->variables variable to represent
the "sql_log_bin" and prohibited its update inside a transaction or
sub-statement.

LOCK_plugin is not anymore locked in init
The problem was that TRUNCATE TABLE didn't take a exclusive
lock on a table if it resorted to truncating via delete of
all rows in the table. Specifically for InnoDB tables, this
could break proper isolation as InnoDB ends up aborting some
granted locks when truncating a table.
The solution is to take a exclusive metadata lock before
TRUNCATE TABLE can proceed. This guarantees that no other
transaction is using the table.

message:
Followup to Bug#51920, fix binlog.binlog_killed
This is a followup to the fix of
Bug#51920 Innodb connections in row lock wait ignore KILL until lock wait
timeout
in that fix (rb://279) the behavior was changed to honor when a trx is
interrupted during lock wait, but the returned error code was still
"lock wait timeout" when it should be "interrupted".
This change fixes the non-deterministically failing test binlog.binlog_killed,
that failed like this:
binlog.binlog_killed 'stmt' [ fail ]
Test ended at 2010-05-12 11:39:08
CURRENT_TEST: binlog.binlog_killed
mysqltest: At line 208: query 'reap' failed with wrong errno 1205: 'Lock wait timeout exceeded; try restarting transaction', instead of 0...
Approved by: Sunny Bains (rb://344)
------------------------------------------------------------
This merge is non-trivial since it has to introduce the DB_INTERRUPTED
error code.
Also revert vasil.dimov@oracle.com-20100408165555-9rpjh24o0sa9ad5y
which adjusted the binlog.binlog_killed test to the new (wrong) behavior
This patch fixes two problems described as follows:
1 - If there is an on-going transaction and a temporary table is created or
dropped, any failed statement that follows the "create" or "drop commands"
triggers a rollback and by consequence the slave will go out sync because
the binary log will have a wrong sequence of events.
To fix the problem, we changed the expression that evaluates when the
cache should be flushed after either the rollback of a statment or
transaction.
2 - When a "CREATE TEMPORARY TABLE SELECT * FROM" was executed the
OPTION_KEEP_LOG was not set into the thd->options. For that reason, if
the transaction had updated only transactional engines and was rolled
back at the end (.e.g due to a deadlock) the changes were not written
to the binary log, including the creation of the temporary table.
To fix the problem, we have set the OPTION_KEEP_LOG into the thd->options
when a "CREATE TEMPORARY TABLE SELECT * FROM" is executed.
sql/log.cc:
Reorganized the code based on the following functions:
- bool ending_trans(const THD* thd, const bool all);
- bool trans_has_updated_non_trans_table(const THD* thd);
- bool trans_has_no_stmt_committed(const THD* thd, const bool all);
- bool stmt_has_updated_non_trans_table(const THD* thd);
sql/log.h:
Added functions to organize the code in log.cc.
sql/log_event.cc:
Removed the OPTION_KEEP_LOG since it must be used only when
creating and dropping temporary tables.
sql/log_event_old.cc:
Removed the OPTION_KEEP_LOG since it must be used only when

is executed.

Bug#20837 Apparent change of isolation level during transaction,
Bug#46527 COMMIT AND CHAIN RELEASE does not make sense,
Bug#53343 completion_type=1, COMMIT/ROLLBACK AND CHAIN don't
preserve the isolation level
Bug#53346 completion_type has strange effect in a stored
procedure/prepared statement
Make thd->tx_isolation mean strictly "current transaction
isolation level"
Make thd->variables.tx_isolation mean "current session isolation
level".
The current transaction isolation level is now established
at transaction start. If there was a SET TRANSACTION
ISOLATION LEVEL statement, the value is taken from it.
Otherwise, the session value is used.
A change in a session value, made while a transaction is active,
whereas still allowed, no longer has any effect on the
current transaction isolation level. This is an incompatible
change.
A change in a session isolation level, made while there is
no active transaction, overrides SET TRANSACTION statement,
if there was any.
Changed the impelmentation to not look at @@session.completion_type
in the parser, and thus fixed Bug#53346.
Changed the parser to not allow AND NO CHAIN RELEASE,
and thus fixed Bug#46527.
Changed the transaction API to take the current transaction
isolation level into account:
- BEGIN/COMMIT now do preserve the current transaction
isolation level if chaining is on.
- implicit commit, XA COMMIT or XA ROLLBACK or autocommit don't.
The test was used to fail because of
UPDATE t3,t4 SET t3.a=t4.a + bug27417(1);
did not prescribe the order of two row operations implied by the update.
Fixed with forcing the order with adding a where condition w/o
affecting the former bug fixes logics.

parallel mode
The failure has nothing to do with parallel, but rather on the
order the tests are executed. In this case, the test
binlog_tmp_table (lets call it test2) was not ensuring that the
binary logs would be reset when it started. Later the test issues
a mysqlbinlog .../master-bin.000002 | mysql ... If the test that
was executed before this one (lets call it test1) had issued a
flush logs, then the file in use in test1 (master-bin.000002)
would not actually match the one that was expected. Eventually,
this would cause the statements logged in test1 to be replayed,
instead of the ones logged in the beginning of test2.
We fix this by:
1. adding RESET MASTER to the beginning of binlog_tmp_table
2. setting dynamically the file to use in binlog_tmp_table
Only #1 was needed, but the two make the tests cases more robust.
transaction
BUG#52616 Temp table prevents switch binlog format from STATEMENT to ROW
Before the WL#2687 and BUG#46364, every non-transactional change that happened
after a transactional change was written to trx-cache and flushed upon
committing the transaction. WL#2687 and BUG#46364 changed this behavior and
non-transactional changes are now written to the binary log upon committing
the statement.
A binary log event is identified as transactional or non-transactional through
a flag in the Log_event which is set taking into account the underlie storage
engine on what it is stems from. In the current bug, this flag was not being
set properly when the DROP TEMPORARY TABLE was executed.
However, while fixing this bug we figured out that changes to temporary tables
should be always written to the trx-cache if there is an on-going transaction.
Otherwise, binlog events in the reversed order would be produced.
Regarding concurrency, keeping changes to temporary tables in the trx-cache is
also safe as temporary tables are only visible to the owner connection.
In this patch, we classify the following statements as unsafe:
1 - INSERT INTO t_myisam SELECT * FROM t_myisam_temp
2 - INSERT INTO t_myisam_temp SELECT * FROM t_myisam
3 - CREATE TEMPORARY TABLE t_myisam_temp SELECT * FROM t_myisam
On the other hand, the following statements are classified as safe:
1 - INSERT INTO t_innodb SELECT * FROM t_myisam_temp
2 - INSERT INTO t_myisam_temp SELECT * FROM t_innodb
The patch also guarantees that transactions that have a DROP TEMPORARY are
always written to the binary log regardless of the mode and the outcome:
commit or rollback. In particular, the DROP TEMPORARY is extended with the
IF EXISTS clause when the current statement logging format is set to row.
Finally, the patch allows to switch from STATEMENT to MIXED/ROW when there
are temporary tables but the contrary is not possible.

BUG#46364 introduced the flag binlog_direct_non_transactional_updates which
would make N-changes to be written to the binary log upon committing the
statement when "ON". On the other hand, when "OFF" the option was supposed
to mimic the behavior in 5.1. However, the implementation was not mimicking
the behavior correctly and the following bugs popped up:
Case #1: N-changes executed within a transaction would go into
the S-cache. When later in the same transaction a
T-change occurs, N-changes following it were written
to the T-cache instead of the S-cache. In some cases,
this raises problems. For example, a
Table_map_log_event being written initially into the
S-cache, together with the initial N-changes, would be
absent from the T-cache. This would log N-changes
orphaned from a Table_map_log_event (thence discarded
at the slave). (MIXED and ROW)
Case #2: When rolling back a transaction, the N-changes that
might be in the T-cache were disregarded and
truncated along with the T-changes. (MIXED and ROW)
Case #3: When a MIXED statement (TN) is ahead of any other
T-changes in the transaction and it fails, it is kept
in the T-cache until the transaction ends. This is
not the case in 5.1 or Betony (5.5.2). In these, the
failed TN statement would be written to the binlog at
the same instant it had failed and not deferred until
transaction end. (SBR)
To fix these problems, we have decided to do what follows:
For Case #1 and #2, we circumvent them:
1. by not letting binlog_direct_non_transactional_updates
affect MIXED and RBR. These modes will keep the behavior
provided by WL#2687. Although this will make Celosia to
behave differently from 5.1, an execution will be always
safe under such modes in the sense that slaves will never
go out sync. In 5.1, using either MIXED or ROW while
mixing N-statements and T-statements was not safe.
For Case #3, we don't actually fix it. We:
1. keep it and make all MIXED statements whether they end
up failing or not or whether they are up front in the
transaction or after some transactional change to always
be stored in the T-cache. This means that it is written
to the binary log on transaction commit/rollback only.
2. We make the warning message even more specific about the
MIXED statement and SBR.
mysql-test/extra/rpl_tests/rpl_mixing_engines.test:
Updated the test case to avoid checking inconsistencies between the master and slave
when session.binlog_direct_non_transactional_updates is ON and the format is statement.
In this scenario, they will diverge because a counter (within a triger) is incremented
and associated to the issued statement. However, an n-statement is logged ahead of
the transaction and thus is not executed by the same order in the slave and thus gets
a different value from the counter.

If bin_log_direct_non_trans_update is active or the format is either
MIXED or ROW, the cache to be used depends on the flag is_transactional.
When the format is STMT, the non-trx-cache should be used if the statement
is non-transactional and the trx-cache is empty, i.e. if any transactional
statement has not committed yet. Otherwise, the trx-cache should be used.

When mysqlbinlog was given the --database=X flag, it always printed
'ROLLBACK TO', but the corresponding 'SAVEPOINT' statement was not
printed. The replicated filter(replicated-do/ignore-db) and binlog
filter (binlog-do/ignore-db) has the same problem. They are solved
in this patch together.
After this patch, We always check whether the query is 'SAVEPOINT'
statement or not. Because this is a literal check, 'SAVEPOINT' and
'ROLLBACK TO' statements are also binlogged in uppercase with no
any comments.
The binlog before this patch can be handled correctly except one case
that any comments are in front of the keywords. for example:
/* bla bla */ SAVEPOINT a;
/* bla bla */ ROLLBACK TO a;

The test case added in previous patch missed a RESET MASTER on
test start up. Without it, showing binary log contents can
sometimes show spurious entries from previously executed tests,
ultimately causing test failure - result mismatch.
The test file was added in:
revid:luis.soares@sun.com-20100224190153-k0bpdx9abe88uoo2
This patch also moves the test case into binlog_innodb_row.test
file. This way we avoid having yet another test file,
binlog_row_innodb_truncate.test, whose only purpose is to host
one test case. This had been actually suggested during original
patch review, but somehow the binlog_innodb_row was missed when
searching for a file to host the test case.
+ failing statements
Implicit DROP event for temporary table is not getting
LOG_EVENT_THREAD_SPECIFIC_F flag, because, in the previous
executed statement in the same thread, which might even be a
failed statement, the thread_specific_used flag is set to
FALSE (in mysql_reset_thd_for_next_command) and not set to TRUE
before connection is shutdown. This means that implicit DROP
event will take the FALSE value from thread_specific_used and
will not set LOG_EVENT_THREAD_SPECIFIC_F in the event header. As
a consequence, mysqlbinlog will not print the pseudo_thread_id
from the DROP event, because one of the requirements for the
printout is that this flag is set to TRUE.
We fix this by setting thread_specific_used whenever we are
binlogging a DROP in close_temporary_tables, and resetting it to
its previous value afterward.
For temporary tables that are created with an engine that does
not provide the HTON_CAN_RECREATE, the truncate operation is
performed resorting to the optimized handler::ha_delete_all_rows
method. However, this means that the truncate will share
execution path, from mysql_delete, with truncate on regular
tables and other delete operations. As a consequence the truncate
operation, for the temporary table is logged, even if in row mode
because there is no distinction between this and the other delete
operations at binlogging time.
We fix this by checking if: (i) the binlog format, when the
truncate operation was issued, is ROW; (ii) if the operation is a
truncate; and (iii) if the table is a temporary table; before
writing to the binary log. If all three conditions are met, we
skip writing to the binlog. A side effect of this fix is that we
limit the scope of setting and resetting the
current_stmt_binlog_row_based. Now we just set and reset it
inside mysql_delete in the boundaries of the
handler::ha_write_row loop. This way we have access to
thd->current_stmt_binlog_row_based real value inside
mysql_delete.

Updated result for spurious truncate table.
mysql-test/suite/binlog/t/binlog_row_innodb_truncate.test:
Test case.
sql/sql_delete.cc:
Added check in mysql_delete before writing the TRUNCATE statement
to the binary log. Additionally, removed the set/reset of
current_stmt_binlog_row_based so that it happens just in the
boundaries of the handler::ha_write_row loop inside mysql_delete.
SUPER_ACL should be checked unconditionally while verifying if the binlog_format
or the binlog_direct_non_transactional_updates might be changed.
Roughly speaking, both session values cannot be changed in the context of a
transaction or a stored function. Note that changing the global value does
not cause any effect until a new connection is created.
So, we fixed the problem by first checking the permissions and right after further
verifications are ignored if the global value is being updated. In this patch, we
also re-structure the test case to make it more readable.
The task is to
(a) add a comment on indexes and
(b) increase the maximum length of column, table and the new index comments.
The patch committed on behalf of Yoshinori Matsunobu (Yoshinori.Matsunobu@Sun.COM).

As part of BUG@39934 fix, the public:
- THD::current_stmt_binlog_row_based
variable had been removed and replaced by a private variable:
- THD::current_stmt_binlog_format.
THD was refactored and some modifiers and accessors were
implemented for the new variable.
However, due to a bad merge, the
THD::current_stmt_binlog_row_based variable is back as a public
member of THD. This in itself is already potentially
harmful. What's even worse is that while merging some more
patches and resolving conflicts, the variable started being used
again, which is obviously wrong.
To fix this we:
1. remove the extraneous variable from sql_class.h
2. revert a bad merge for BUG#49132
3. merge BUG#49132 properly again (actually, making use of the
cset used to merge the original patch to mysql-pe).

changes have been pulled.
Since initially Bug#37148 was null-merged into 6.0,
the changeset that is now being cherry-picked was likewise
null merged into next-4284.
Now that Bug#37148 has been reapplied to 6.0, try to make
it work with next-4284. This is also necessary to be able
to pull other changes from 5.1-rep into next-4284.
