b6283d4f97 Bug#17638477 UNINSTALL AND INSTALL SEMI-SYNC PLUGIN CAUSES SLAVES TO BREAK
Problem: Uninstallation of semi sync plugin causes replication to
break.

Analysis: A semisync enabled replication is mutual agreement between
Master and Slave when the connection (I/O thread) is established.
Once I/O thread is started and if semisync is enabled on both
master and slave, master appends special magic header to events
using semisync plugin functions and sends it to slave. And slave
expects that each event will have that special magic header format
and reads those bytes using semisync plugin functions.

When semi sync replication is in use if users execute
uninstallation of the plugin on master, slave gets confused while
interpreting that event's content because it expects special
magic header at the beginning of the event. Slave SQL thread will
be stopped with "Missing magic number in the header" error.

Similar problem will happen if uninstallation of the plugin happens
on slave when semi sync replication is in in use. Master sends
the events with magic header and slave does not know about the
added magic header and thinks that it received a corrupted event.
Hence slave SQL thread stops with "Found corrupted event" error.

Fix: Uninstallation of semisync plugin will be blocked when semisync
replication is in use and will throw 'ER_UNKNOWN_ERROR' error.
To detect that semisync replication is in use, this patch uses
semisync status variable values.
 > On Master, it checks for 'Rpl_semi_sync_master_status' to be OFF
before allowing the uninstallation of rpl_semi_sync_master plugin.
    >> Rpl_semi_sync_master_status is OFF when
        >>> there is no dump thread running
        >>> there are no semisync slaves
 > On Slave, it checks for 'Rpl_semi_sync_slave_status' to be OFF
before allowing the uninstallation of rpl_semi_sync_slave plugin.
    >> Rpl_semi_sync_slave_status is OFF when
       >>> there is no I/O thread running
       >>> replication is asynchronous replication.

88680a99c6 Bug#16691598 - ORDER BY LOWER(COLUMN) PRODUCES OUT-OF-ORDER RESULTS
Problem:-
We have created a table with UTF8_BIN collation.
In case, when in our query we have ORDER BY clause over a function
call we are getting result in incorrect order.
Note:the bug is not there in 5.5.

Analysis:
In 5.5, for UTF16_BIN, we have min and max multi-byte length is 2 and 4
respectively. In make_sortkey(),for 2 byte character character we are
assuming that the resultant length will be 2 byte/character. But when we
use my_strnxfrm_unicode_full_bin(), we store sorting weights using 3 bytes
per character. This result in truncated result.

Same thing happen for UTF8MB4, where we have 1 byte min multi-byte and
4 byte max multi-byte.We will accsume resultant data as 1 byte/character,
which result in truncated result.

Solution:-
use strnxfrm(means use of MY_CS_STRNXFRM macro) is used for sort, in
which the resultant length is not dependent on source length.

d4011a6144 BUG#16580366- MTR TESTS FAILING SPORADICALLY ON PB2 (5.5, 5.6 AND 5.7)
DURING INNODB RECOVERY

Problem:
=======
The connection 'master' is dropped by mysqltest after
rpl_end.inc. At this point, dropping temporary tables
at the connection 'master' are not synced at slave.
So, the temporary tables replicated from master remain
on slave leading to an inconsistent close of the test.
The following test thus complains about the presence of
temporary table(s) left over from the previous test.

Fix:
===
- Put explicit drop commands in replication tests so
that the temporary tables are dropped at slave as well.
- Added the check for Slave_open_temp_tables in
mtr_check.sql to warn about the remaining temporary
table, if any, at the close of a test.

59402fe0a7 Bug#16752251 - INNODB DOESN'T REDO-LOG INSERT BUFFER MERGE OPERATION IF
IT IS DONE IN-PLACE

With change buffer enabled, InnoDB doesn't write a transaction log
record when it merges a record from the insert buffer to an secondary
index page if the insertion is performed as an update-in-place.

Fixed by logging the 'update-in-place' operation on secondary index
pages.

3b1e98d218 Bug#11765252 - READ OF FREED MEMORY WHEN "USE DB" AND
"SHOW PROCESSLIST"

Analysis:
----------
The problem here is, if one connection changes its
default db and at the same time another connection executes
"SHOW PROCESSLIST", when it wants to read db of the another
connection then there is a chance of accessing the invalid
memory.

The db name stored in THD is not guarded while changing user
DB and while reading the user DB in "SHOW PROCESSLIST".
So, if THD.db is freed by thd "owner" thread and if another
thread executing "SHOW PROCESSLIST" statement tries to read
and copy THD.db at the same time then we may endup in the issue
reported here.

Fix:
----------
Used mutex "LOCK_thd_data" to guard THD.db while freeing it
and while copying it to processlist.

fc2c669297 Fix for bug#14188793 - "DEADLOCK CAUSED BY ALTER TABLE DOEN'T CLEAR
STATUS OF ROLLBACKED TRANSACTION" and bug #17054007 - "TRANSACTION
IS NOT FULLY ROLLED BACK IN CASE OF INNODB DEADLOCK".

The problem in the first bug report was that although deadlock involving
metadata locks was reported using the same error code and message as InnoDB
deadlock it didn't rollback transaction like the latter. This caused
confusion to users as in some cases after ER_LOCK_DEADLOCK transaction
could have been restarted immediately and in some cases rollback was
required.

The problem in the second bug report was that although InnoDB deadlock
caused transaction rollback in all storage engines it didn't cause release
of metadata locks. So concurrent DDL on the tables used in transaction was
blocked until implicit or explicit COMMIT or ROLLBACK was issued in the
connection which got InnoDB deadlock.

The former issue has stemmed from the fact that when support for detection
and reporting metadata locks deadlocks was added we erroneously assumed
that InnoDB doesn't rollback transaction on deadlock but only last statement
(while this is what happens on InnoDB lock timeout actually) and so didn't
implement rollback of transactions on MDL deadlocks.

The latter issue was caused by the fact that rollback of transaction due
to deadlock is carried out by setting THD::transaction_rollback_request
flag at the point where deadlock is detected and performing rollback
inside of trans_rollback_stmt() call when this flag is set. And
trans_rollback_stmt() is not aware of MDL locks, so no MDL locks are
released.

This patch solves these two problems in the following way:

- In case when MDL deadlock is detect transaction rollback is requested
  by setting THD::transaction_rollback_request flag.

- Code performing rollback of transaction if THD::transaction_rollback_request
is moved out from trans_rollback_stmt(). Now we handle rollback request
on the same level as we call trans_rollback_stmt() and release statement/
  transaction MDL locks.

00b840b48a Bug#15948818-SEMI-SYNC ENABLED MASTER CRASHES WHEN EVENT
SCHEDULER DROPS EVENTS

Problem: On a semi sync enabled server (Master/Slave),
if event scheduler drops an event after completion,
server crashes.

Analaysis: If an event is created with "ON COMPLETION
NOT PRESERVE" clause, event scheduler deletes the event
upon event completion(expiration) and the thread object
will be destroyed. In the destructor of the thread object,
mysys_var member is set to zero explicitly. Later from
the same destructor call(same execution path),
incase of semi sync enabled server, while cleanup is called,
THD::mysys_var member is accessed by THD::enter_cond()
function which causes server to crash.

Fix: mysys_var should not be explicitly set to zero and
also it is not required.

sql/sql_class.cc:
mysys_var should not be explicitly set to zero.

5fcf40a2aa BUG#15965353- RPL.RPL_ROW_UNTIL FAILS ON PB2,
PLATFORM= MACOSX10.6 X86_64 MAX

Problem: The test was failing on pb2's mac machine because
it was not cleaned up properly. The test checks if
the command 'start slave until' throws a proper
error when issued with a wrong number/type of
parameters. After this, the replication stream was
stopped using the include file 'rpl_end.inc'.
The errors thrown earlier left the slave in an
inconsistent state to be closed by the include
file which was caught by the mac machine.

Fix: Started slave by invoking start_slave.inc to have a
     working slave before calling rpl_reset.inc

Problem: The test file was not in a good shape. It tested
start slave until relay log file/pos combination
wrongly. A couple of commands were executed at
master and replicated at slave. Next, the
coordinates in terms of relay log file and pos
were noted down followed by reset slave and start
slave until saved relay log file/pos. Reset slave
deletes all relay log files and makes the slave
forget its replication position. So, using the
saved coordiantes after reset slave is wrong.

Fix: Split the test in two parts:
     a) Test for start slave until master log file/pos and
checking for correct errors in the failure
        scenarios.
     b) Test for start slave until relay log file/pos.

Problem: The variables auto_increment_increment and
auto_increment_offset were set in the the include
file rpl_init.inc. This was only configured for
some connections that are rarely used by test
cases, so likely that it will cause confusion.
If replication tests want to setup these variables
         they should do so explicitly.

Fix:
     a) Removed code to set the variables
        auto_increment_increment and auto_increment_offset
        in the include file.
     b) Updated tests files using the same.

154860eab5 BUG#14485479: INSTALL AUDIT PLUGIN HANGS IF WE TRY TO
DISABLE AND ENABLED DURING DDL OPERATION

PROBLEM: Same thread trying to acquire the same mutex
second time leads to hang/server crash.
         While [un]installing audit_log plugin
a thread acquires the LOCK_plugin mutex
         and after successful initialization tries
to write in mysql.plugin table. It holds
this mutex for a long time. If some how
plugin table is corrupted then a write to
plugin table will throw an error, thread try
to log this error in the audit_log plugin,
doing so it tries to acquire the mutex
again and results is server hang/crash.

SOLUTION: Releasing the LOCK_plugin mutex before
writing in mysql.plugin table. We dont
need to hold this mutex as thread already
          acquired a TL_WRITE lock on mysql.plugin
          table.

7c7de142a3 BUG#14659685 - main.mysqlbinlog_row_myisam and
main.mysqlbinlog_row_innodb are skipped by mtr

=== Problem ===

The following tests are wrongly placed in main suite and as a
result these are not run with proper binlog format combinations.
Some are always skipped by mtr.
1) mysqlbinlog_row_myisam
2) mysqlbinlog_row_innodb
3) mysqlbinlog_row.test
4) mysqlbinlog_row_trans.test
5) mysqlbinlog-cp932
6) mysqlbinlog2
7) mysqlbinlog_base64

=== Background ===

mtr runs the tests placed in main suite with binlog format=stmt.
Those that need to be tested against binlog format=row or mixed
or more than one binlog format and require only one mysql server
are placed in binlog suite. mtr runs tests in binlog suite with
all three binlog formats(stmt, row and mixed).

=== Fix ===

1) Moved the test listed in problem section above to binlog suite.
2) Added prefix "binlog_" to the name of each test case moved.
Renamed the coresponding result files and option files accordingly.

this was disabled in mysql trunk and mysql 5.5 as in the release

9e048a6bc5 BUG#13333431 - INCORRECT DEFAULT PORT IN 'SHOW SLAVE HOSTS' OUTPUT
Problem - The default port number shown in SHOW SLAVE HOSTS is always 3306
though the slave is actually listening on a different port number.
This is a problem as the user can not be sure whether this port
value can be trusted and so client trying to read replication
          topology can get confused.

Fix - 3306 ceases to be the default value of report-port. Moreover report-port
does not have a static default any longer.
Instead we initialize report-port to 0 as the new default value and change
it based on two checks :

      1) If report_port is not set, the slave reports the port number its listening
on. (i.e. if report-port is not set we get the actual value of the slave's
         port number).

      2) If report-port is set, we show the value report-port is set to, as the slave's
         port number.

mysql-test/include/show_slave_hosts.inc:
A .inc file is added to use show slave hosts in the new test added.
mysql-test/r/mysqld--help-notwin.result:
Updated the result file to show the default value passed for report-port.
mysql-test/suite/rpl/r/rpl_report_port.result:
The result file for the new test that is added.
mysql-test/suite/rpl/r/rpl_show_slave_hosts.result:
Updated the result file to show the default value passed for report-port.
mysql-test/suite/rpl/t/rpl_report_port-slave.opt:
Option file for the new test added.
mysql-test/suite/rpl/t/rpl_report_port.test:
Added a test to check the correct functionality of report-port.
We check this by running the replication twice.

In the first run we do not set the value of report-port through the opt file
and get the actual port number of the slave's port.

We then restart the server with report-port set to some value (in this case 9000)
and check the value reported for the slave's port number.
mysql-test/suite/sys_vars/t/report_port_basic.test:
Update the test file to show the value for report-port. It is replaced with
SLAVE_PORT as the actual value of the report-port will change with each run.
sql/mysqld.cc:
Changed the value reported by report port :

  1. If the value for report-port is not set we assign report-port to be the
actual port number of the slave (mysqld_port).

  2. If report-port is set we get the value set for the report-port.
sql/sys_vars.cc:
Passed 0 as the default value of the report-port.

74374933c8 Bug#11761296: 53775: QUERY ON PARTITIONED TABLE RETURNS CACHED
RESULT FROM PREVIOUS TRANSACTION

The current Query Cache API is not fully compatible with
the partitioning engine.

There is no good way to implement support for QC due to:
1) a static callback for ha_partition would need to have access
to all partition names and call the underlying callback for each
[sub]partition with the correct name.
2) pruning would be impossible, even if one used the ulonglong
engine_data due to if engine_data is changed, the table is
invalidated by the QC.

So the only viable solution to avoid incorrect data is to not allow
caching of queries using partitioned tables.

(There are some extra changes, due to removal of \r as line break)

461e039a07 BUG#12969301 : mysql_plugin: enable is ignored if plugin exists
This patch changes the mechanism by which the client enables a
plugin. Instead of using INSERT IGNORE to reload a plugin library,
it now uses REPLACE INTO. This allows users to load a library
multiple times replacing the existing values in the mysql.plugin
table. This allows users to replace the symbol reference to a
different dl name in the table. Thus permitting enabling of
multiple versions of the same library without first disabling
the old version.

A regression test was added to ensure this feature works.

825c74f6aa BUG#12364404 - UNDETERMINISTIC WAIT LOOP IN WAIT_FOR_NDB_TO_BINLOG.INC
The wait_for_ndb_to_binlog.inc include file used by the blow rpl_tests
common for rpl and rpl_ndb suite is simply doing a "sleep 5", this is
not deterministic and wastes lot of test time uneccessarily. The test
should be rewritten to check if the condition it wait for has been
reached or not.

For NDB engine all events will be added by NDB injector so tests only
can continue after injector is ready, this test waits for proper
injector thread state.

f73bc0243a Addendum to the fix for bug #11754014
- Fixed the checks to properly check for plugin_dir containing a trailing slash or backslash.
- Fixed a under-configuration in udf_skip_grants that was preventing the test
from running even when there was a udf plugin.

37fce0ece4 BUG#13050593 - BACKSLASH SWALLOWED BY INCLUDE/SHOW_SLAVE_STATUS.INC
If an error message contains '\' backslash it is displayed correctly
through show-slave-status or
query_get_value(SHOW SLAVE STATUS, Last_IO_Error, 1);. But when
SELECT REPLACE(...) is applied backslash is escaped resulting in a
different test output.

Disabled backslash escape on show_slave_status.inc and replaced '\' for
'/' using replace_regex function in order to achieve the same test
output when different path separators are used.

a899a4050b BUG#11745230
Refactored the test case: hardened and extended it. Created test inc file
to abstract the task of relocating binlogs.

Also, disabled it on windows for not cluttering the test case any further,
as it depends heavily on doing filesystem operations and path handling.

mysql-test/include/relocate_binlogs.inc:
Auxiliar include file that performs the relocation of binary logs
  listed in an index file.

eec4836a1b BUG#11745230: 12133: MASTER.INDEX FILE KEEPS MYSQLD FROM STARTING IF
BIN LOG HAS BEEN MOVED

When moving the binary/relay log files from one location to
another and restarting the server with a different log-bin or
relay-log paths, would cause the startup process to abort. The
root cause was that the server would not be able to find the log
files because it would consider old paths for entries in the
index file instead of the new location. What's even worse, the
relative paths would not be considered relative to the path
provided in log-bin and relay-log, but to mysql_data_dir.

We fix the cases where the server contains relative paths. When
the server is reading from the index file, it checks whether the
entry contains relative paths. If it does, we replace it with the
absolute path set in log-bin/relay-log option. Absolute paths
remain unchanged and the index must be manually edited to
consider the new log-bin and/or relay-log path (this should be
documented). This is a fix for a GA version, that does not break
behavior (that much).

For development versions, we should go with Zhenxing's approach
that removes paths altogether from index files.

mysql-test/include/begin_include_file.inc:
Added parameter to keep the begin_include_file.inc silent. Useful when
including scripts that contain platform dependent parameters, for example:

  --let $rpl_server_parameters=--log-bin=$tmpdir/slave-bin --relay-log=$tmpdir/slave-relay-bin
  --let $keep_include_silent=1
  source include/rpl_start_server.inc;
  --let $keep_include_silent=0

We want the paths ($tmpdir/slave-bin and $tmpdir/slave-relay-bin) not to be in the
  result file.
mysql-test/suite/rpl/t/rpl_binlog_index.test:
  Test case.
sql/log.cc:
When finding the corresponding log entry in the index file, we first
normalize the paths before doing the comparison. This will make relative
paths to be turned into absolute paths (based on the opt_bin_logname or
opt_relay_logname) and then compared against also, expanded paths entered,
  through CHANGE MASTER for instance.
sql/log.h:
Added normalize_binlog_name, which turns relative paths, into absolute paths
  given the parameter: is_relay_log ? opt_relay_logname : opt_bin_logname .
sql/mysqld.cc:
  Exposing opt_bin_logname.
sql/mysqld.h:
  Exposing opt_bin_logname.
