Bug#319 if while a non-transactional slave is replicating a transaction possible problem
It is impossible to roll back a mixed engines transaction when one of the engine is
non-transaction. In replication that fact is crucial because the slave can not safely
re-apply a transction that was interrupted with STOP SLAVE.
Fixed with making STOP SLAVE not be effective immediately in the case the current
group of replication events has modified a non-transaction table. In order for slave to leave
either the group needs finishing or the user issues KILL QUERY|CONNECTION slave_thread_id.

due to name_const substitution
Problem:
"In general, statements executed within a stored procedure
are written to the binary log using the same rules that
would apply were the statements to be executed in standalone
fashion. Some special care is taken when logging procedure
statements because statement execution within procedures
is not quite the same as in non-procedure context".
For example, each reference to a local variable in SP's
statements is replaced by NAME_CONST(var_name, var_value).
Queries like
"CREATE TABLE ... SELECT FUNC(local_var ..."
are logged as
"CREATE TABLE ... SELECT FUNC(NAME_CONST("local_var", var_value) ..."
that leads to differrent field names and
might result in "Incorrect column name" if var_value is long enough.
Fix: in 5.x we'll issue a warning in such a case.
In 6.0 we should get rid of NAME_CONST().
Note: this issue and change should be described in the documentation

LOAD_FILE
LOAD_FILE is not safe to replicate in STATEMENT mode, because it
depends on a file (which is loaded on master and may not exist in
slave(s)). This leads to scenarios on which the slave replicates the
statement with 'load_file' and it will try to load the file from local
file system. Given that the file may not exist in the slave filesystem
the operation will not succeed (probably returning NULL), causing
master and slave(s) to diverge. However, when using MIXED mode
replication, this can be made to work, if the statement including
LOAD_FILE is marked as unsafe, triggering a switch to ROW mode,
meaning that the contents of the file are written to binlog as row
events. Consequently, the contents from the file in the master will
reach the slave via the binlog.
This patch addresses this bug by marking the load_file function as
unsafe. When in mixed mode and when LOAD_FILE is issued, there will be
a switch to row mode. Furthermore, when in statement mode, the
LOAD_FILE will raise a warning that the statement is unsafe in that
mode.

When do 'insert delayed' operation, the time_zone info doesn't be keeped in the row info.

Unknown timezone specifications are properly rejected
by the server, but are copied into tz_storage before
rejection, and hence is retained until end of server
life. With sufficiently large bogus timezone specs,
it is easy to exhaust system memory.
Allocation of memory for a copy of the timezone
name is delayed until after verification of validity,
at the cost of a memcpy of the timezone info. This
only happens once, future lookups will hit the cached
structure.

mysql.procs_priv table itself does not get replicated.
Inserting routine privilege record into mysql.procs_priv table
is triggered by creating function/procedure statements
according to current user's privileges.
Because the current user of SQL thread has GLOBAL_ACL,
which doesn't need any check mysql.procs_priv privilege

Corresponding GLOBAL_ACL privilege user

Compiling with debug and assigning an invalid directory to --slave-load-tmpdir
was crashing the slave due to the following assertion DBUG_ASSERT(! is_set() ||
can_overwrite_status). This assertion assumes that a thread can change its
state once (i.e. ok,error, etc) before aborting, cleaning/resuming or completing
its execution unless the overwrite flag (i.e. can_overwrite_status) is true.
The Append_block_log_event::do_apply_event which is responsible for creating
temporary file(s) was not cleaning the thread state. Thus a failure while
trying to create a file in an invalid temporary directory was causing the crash.
To fix the problem we check if the temporary directory is valid before starting
the SQL Thread and reset the thread state before creating a file in
Append_block_log_event::do_apply_event.

Need to call c_ptr_safe() as strings returned by non-string items are not

The problem is issued because we set wrong start position and stop position of query string into binlog.
That two values are stored as part of head info of query string.
When we parse binlog, we first get position values then get the query string according position values.
But seems that two values are not calculated correctly after the parse of Yacc.
We don't want to touch so much of yacc because it may influence other codes.

THD::start_time has a dual meaning : it's either the time since the process
entered a given state or is the transaction time returned by e.g. NOW().
This causes problems, as sometimes THD::start_time may be set to a value
that is correct and needed when used as a base for NOW(), but these times
may be arbitrary (SET @@timestamp) or non-local (coming from the master
through the replication feed).
If one such non-local time is set there's no way to return a correct value
for e.g. SHOW PROCESSLIST or SELECT ... FROM INFORMATION_SCHEMA.PROCESSLIST.
Fixed by making the Time column in SHOW PROCESSLIST SIGNED LONG instead of
UNSIGNED LONG and doing the correct conversions.
Note that no reliable test suite can be constructed, since it would require
knowing the local time and can't be achieved by the means of the current test
suite.

The problem is that creating a event could fail if the value of
the variable server_id didn't fit in the originator column of
the event system table. The cause is two-fold: it was possible
to set server_id to a value outside the documented range (from
0 to 2^32-1) and the originator column of the event table didn't
have enough room for values in this range.
The log tables (general_log and slow_log) also don't have a proper
column type to store the server_id and having a large server_id
value could prevent queries from being logged.
The solution is to ensure that all system tables that store the
server_id value have a proper column type (int unsigned) and that
the variable can't be set to a value that is not within the range.

branches/5.0:
Backport the fix for Bug#18828. Return DB_TOO_MANY_CONCURRENT_TRXS
when we run out of UNDO slots in the rollback segment. The backport
is requested by MySQL under bug#41529 - Safe handling of InnoDB running
out of undo log slots.
This is a partial fix since the MySQL error code requested to properly
report the error condition back to the client has not yet materialized.
Currently we have #ifdef'd the error code translation in ha_innodb.cc.
This will have to be changed as and when MySQl add the new requested
code or an equivalent code that we can then use.
Given the above, currently we will get the old behavior, not the
"fixed" and intended behavior.

The algorithm of determining the best key for loose index scan is doing a loop
over the available indexes and selects the one that has the best cost.
It retrieves the parameters of the current index into a set of variables.
If the cost of using the current index is lower than the best cost so far it
copies these variables into another set of variables that contain the
information for the best index so far.
After having checked all the indexes it uses these variables (outside of the
index loop) to create the table read plan object instance.
The was a single omission : the key_infix/key_infix_len variables were used
outside of the loop without being preserved in the loop for the best index
so far.
This causes these variables to get overwritten by the next index(es) checked.
Fixed by adding variables to hold the data for the current index, passing
the new variables to the function that assigns values to them and copying
the new variables into the existing ones when selecting a new current best
index.
To avoid further such problems moved the declarations of the variables used
to keep information about the current index inside the loop's compound
statement.

In STRICT mode, out-of-bounds values caused an error message
to be queued (rather than just a warning), without any further
error-like processing happening. (The error is queued during
update, at which time it's too late. For it to be processed
properly, it would need to be queued during check-stage.)
The assertion rightfully complains that we're trying to send
an OK while having an error queued.
Changeset breaks a lot of tests out into check-stage. This also
allows us to send more correct warnings/error messages.

Problem: storing "SELECT ... INTO @var ..." results in variables we used val_xxx()

So, in some cases (e.g. SELECT DISTINCT, GROUP BY or HAVING) we got data

Bug#41112: crash in mysql_ha_close_table/get_lock_data with alter table
The problem is that the server wasn't handling robustly failures
to re-open a table during a HANDLER .. READ statement. If the
table needed to be re-opened due to it's storage engine being
altered to one that doesn't support HANDLER, a reference (dangling
pointer) to a closed table could be left in place and accessed in
later attempts to fetch from the table using the handler. Also,
if the server failed to set a error message if the re-open
failed. These problems could lead to server crashes or hangs.
The solution is to remove any references to a closed table and
to set a error if reopening a table during a HANDLER .. READ
statement fails.

In mixed mode, if we create a temporary table and do some update which switch to ROW format,
the format will keep in ROW format until the session ends or the table is dropped explicitly.
When the session ends, the temp table is dropped automaticly at cleanup time.
but it checks only current binlog format and so skip insertion of DROP TABLE instructions into binlog.
So the temp table can't be dropped correctly at slave.
Our solution is that when closing temp tables at cleanup time we check both binlog format and binlog mode,
and we could write DROP TABLE instructions into binlog if current binlog format is ROW but in MIX mode.

The problem is that select queries executed concurrently with
a concurrent insert on a MyISAM table could be cached if the
select started after the query cache invalidation but before
the unlock of tables performed by the concurrent insert. This
race could happen because the concurrent insert was failing
to prevent cache of select queries happening at the same time.

The problem is that tables can enter open table cache for a thread without
being properly cleaned up. This can happen if make_join_statistics() fails
to read a const table because of e.g. a deadlock. It does set a member of
TABLE structure to a value it allocates, but doesn't clean-up this setting
on error nor does it set the rest of the members in JOIN to allow for
automatic cleanup.
As a result when such an error occurs and the next statement depends re-uses
the table from the open tables cache it will get it with this
TABLE::reginfo.join_tab pointing to a memory area that's freed.
Fixed by making sure make_join_statistics() cleans up TABLE::reginfo.join_tab

Some errors that cause the slave SQL thread to stop are not shown in the
Slave_SQL_Error column of "SHOW SLAVE STATUS". Instead, the error is only
in the server's error log.
That makes it difficult to analyze the error for the user. One example of an error
that stops the slave but is not shown by "SHOW SLAVE STATUS" is when @@global.init_slave
is set incorrectly (e.g., it contains something that is not valid SQL).
Three failures were not correctly reported:
1 - Failures during slave thread initialization
2 - Failures while initializing the relay log position right after
starting the slave thread.
3 - Failures while processing queries passed through the init_slave
option.
This patch fixes the issues by reporting the errors through relay-info->report.

The check for root-ness would signal an error. Errors would make the

Now, test for whether we want help regardless of whether we're going
to exit with an error. If plugins are not initialized by the time we
print usage information, inform the user that some parameters are
missing.

There is an inconsistency with DROP DATABASE IF EXISTS, DROP
TABLE IF EXISTS and DROP VIEW IF EXISTS: those are binlogged even
if the DB or TABLE does not exist, whereas DROP PROCEDURE IF

- call plugin->deinit() in such cases as we successfully

The problem is that a unfiltered user query was being passed as
the format string parameter of sql_print_warning which later
performs printf-like formatting, leading to crashes if the user
query contains formatting instructions (ie: %s). Also, it was
using THD::query as the source of the user query, but this
variable is not meaningful in some situations -- in a delayed
insert, it points to the table name.
The solution is to pass the user query as a parameter for the
format string and use the function parameter query_arg as the
source of the user query.

TRUNCATE TABLE fails to replicate when stmt-based binlogging is not supported.
There were two separate problems with the code, both of which are fixed with
this patch:
1. An error was printed by InnoDB for TRUNCATE TABLE in statement mode when
the in isolation levels READ COMMITTED and READ UNCOMMITTED since InnoDB
does permit statement-based replication for DML statements. However,
the TRUNCATE TABLE is not transactional, but is a DDL, and should therefore
be allowed to be replicated as a statement.
2. The statement was not logged in mixed mode because of the error above, but
the error was not reported to the client.
This patch fixes the problem by treating TRUNCATE TABLE a DDL, that is, it is
always logged as a statement and not reporting an error from InnoDB for TRUNCATE
TABLE.

The bug happened because filtering-out a STMT_END_F-flagged event so that
the transaction COMMIT finds traces of incomplete statement commit.
Such situation is only possible with ndb circular replication. The filtered-out

Fixed with deploying an the rows-log-event statement commit at executing

upgrading lock, even with low_priority_updates
The problem is that there is no mechanism to control whether a
delayed insert takes a high or low priority lock on a table.
The solution is to modify the delayed insert thread ("handler")
to take into account the global value of low_priority_updates
when taking table locks. The value of low_priority_updates is
retrieved when the insert delayed thread is created and will
remain the same for the duration of the thread.

This also
allows us to send more correct warnings/error messages.

messed up
"ROW(...) IN (SELECT ... FROM DUAL)" always returned TRUE.
Item_in_subselect::row_value_transformer rewrites "ROW(...)
IN SELECT" conditions into the "EXISTS (SELECT ... HAVING ...)"
form.
For a subquery from the DUAL pseudotable resulting HAVING
condition is an expression on constant values, so further
transformation with optimize_cond() eliminates this HAVING
condition and resets JOIN::having to NULL.
Then JOIN::exec treated that NULL as an always-true-HAVING
and that caused a bug.
To distinguish an optimized out "HAVING TRUE" clause from
"HAVING FALSE" we already have the JOIN::having_value flag.
However, JOIN::exec() ignored JOIN::having_value as described
above as if it always set to COND_TRUE.
The JOIN::exec method has been modified to take into account
the value of the JOIN::having_value field.

Various parts of code used different 'precision' arguments for sprintf("%g") when converting
floating point numbers to a string. This led to differences in results in some cases

Interchangeable calls to the mysql_change_user client function
and invocations of a trigger changing some user variable caused
a memory corruption and a crash.
The mysql_change_user API call forces TDH::cleanup() on a server

However it didn't reset Item_func_set_user_var::entry to NULL
because Item_func_set_user_var::cleanup() was not overloaded.

The greedy optimizer tracks the current level of nested joins and the position
inside these by setting and maintaining a state that's global for the whole FROM
clause.
This state was correctly maintained inside the selection of the next partial plan
table (in best_extension_by_limited_search()).
greedy_search() also moves the current position by adding the last partial match
table when there's not enough tables in the partial plan found by
best_extension_by_limited_search().
This may require update of the global state variables that describe the current
position in the plan if the last table placed by greedy_search is not a top-level
join table.
Fixed by updating the state after placing the partial plan table in greedy_search()
in the same way this is done on entering the best_extension_by_limited_search().

Bounds-checks and blocksize corrections were applied to user-input,
but constants in the server were trusted implicitly. If these values
did not actually meet the requirements, the user could not set change
a variable, then set it back to the (wonky) factory default or maximum
by explicitly specifying it (SET <var>=<value> vs SET <var>=DEFAULT).
Now checks also apply to the server's presets. Wonky values and maxima
get corrected at startup. Consequently all non-offsetted values the user
sees are valid, and users can set the variable to that exact value if
they so desire.
mysql-test/r/read_buffer_size_basic.result:
test sets out of bounds value; we now throw a warning for this.
This is a side-effect: before, the maximum was higher than the
value we set here. The value was corrected to block-size, the
maximum was not, hence the value was smaller than the maximum
in this particular case. Now that we align the maxima at startup,
the value in SET is larger than the (corrected) maximum, and we
see a warning in this particular case. "This means we're doing it right."

The special TRUNCATE TABLE (DDL) transaction wasn't being properly
rolled back if a error occurred during row by row deletion. The
error can be caused by a foreign key restriction imposed by InnoDB
SE and would cause the server to erroneously issue a implicit
commit.
The solution is to rollback the transaction if a truncation via row
by row deletion fails, otherwise commit. All effects of a TRUNCATE
ABLE operation are rolled back if a row by row deletion fails.
mysql-test/include/commit.inc:
Truncate always starts a transaction and commits at the end.
The commit at the end increases the count by two, one is the
storage engine commit and the other is the binary log.

Remove the meddling with disabling and enabling of autocommit
as TRUNCATE transaction is now explicitly ended (committed
or rolled back).
Problem: when the server reads a log_event from file, it should read
the post-header lengths from the format_description_log_event. Some
event types which currently have post-header length 0 did not do this,
and instead had a hard-coded zero length for the post-header. That
means the current server version will not be able to read future
versions of these events.
Fix: make the reader functions read the post-header.
sql/log_event.cc:
- Made Format_description_log_event constructor initialize all
post-header lengths explicitly, to make it easier to find them
in the source code.
- After this, it is no longer necessary to pass the MY_ZEROFILL
flag to my_malloc. I removed the flag and added a sanity-check
that will be executed only in debug-mode.
- Made INTVAR, RAND, USER_VAR, and XID events skip post_header_len
when reading from file.
sql/log_event.h:
Added explicit defines for the lengths of all event types.
Problem was that it tried to run partitioning function calls when
opening a partitioned table, when it was explicitly disabled.
Solution is to check if the partitioning plugin is ready to use before
using any partitioning specific calls.

The binlog_innodb test was sensitive to what tests ran before it. Now run
FLUSH STATUS before performing operations that need to be checked.
sys_var_thd_ulong::update() was improperly casting an option value from
ulonglong to ulong before comparing it to the max allowed value. On systems
where ulong and ulonglong are of different size, this caused values greater
than ULONG_MAX to wrap around (not be truncated to ULONG_MAX, which appears to
have been the intention of the original coder), and caused some checks to work
incorrectly. This wasn't generally visible to the user, because later checks
would prevent the wrapped-around value from being used. But it caused warning
messages to differ between 32- and 64-bit platforms. Fix is to just remove the
cast. Also added a DBUG_ASSERT to ensure that the value really is capped
properly before finally stuffing it into the ulong.
locking type of temp table
The problem is that INSERT INTO .. SELECT FROM .. and CREATE
TABLE .. SELECT FROM a temporary table could inadvertently
overwrite the locking type of the temporary table. The lock
type of temporary tables should be a write lock by default.
The solution is to reset the lock type of temporary tables
back to its default value after they are used in a statement.

Execution of queries containing the CASE function of
aggregate function like in "SELECT ... CASE ARGV(...) WHEN ..."
crashed the server.
The CASE function caches pointers to concrete comparison
functions for an each pair of types of CASE-WHERE clause
parameters, i.e. for the "CASE INT_RESULT WHERE REAL_RESULT
THEN ... WHERE DECIMAL_RESULT ... END" function call it
caches comparisons for INT_RESULT with REAL_RESULT and
for INT_RESULT with DECIMAL_RESULT. Usually a result
type is known after a call to the fix_fields function,
however, the setup_copy_fields function call may
wrap aggregate items with Item_copy_string that has
STRING_RESULT result type, so setup_copy_fields may
change argument result types of the CASE function after
call to Item_func_case::fix_fields/fix_length_and_dec.
Then the Item_func_case::find_item function tries to
use comparison function for unexpected pair of the
STRING_RESULT and some other type - that caused
an assertion failure of server crash.
The Item_func_case::fix_length_and_dec function has
been modified to take into account possible STRING_RESULT
result type in the presence of aggregate arguments of
the CASE function.

Problem was an errornous date that lead to end partition
was before the start, leading to a crash.
Solution was to check greater or equal instead of only
equal between start and end partition.
NOTE: partitioning pruning handles incorrect dates
differently than index lookup, which can give different
results in a partitioned table versus a non partitioned
table for queries having 'bad' dates in the where clause.

The problem is that we cannot insert new record into memory table
when table size exceeds max memory table size.
The fix is to use schema_table_store_record() function which
converts memory table into MyISAM in case of table size exceeding.
Note:

1. The code that was added already is checked(i.e. works) with existing tests

Select from a LONGTEXT column wrapped with an expression

affected too.
LONGTEXT column item has a maximum length of 32^2-1 bytes,
at the same time this is a maximum possible length of any
MySQL item. CAST(longtext_column AS UNSIGNED) returns some
unsigned numeric result of length 32^2-1, so the result of
IF/IFNULL function of this number and some other signed number
will have text length of (32^2-1)+1=32^2 (one byte for the
minus sign) - there is integer overflow, and the length is
equal to zero. That caused assert/crash.

The problem appears often in conjuction with temp files, when temp-pool is used, so that names of temp files are not unique.
The reason is that rapid deletiion and creation of fiiles with the same name on Windows is not guaranteed to succeed. File disappears from the file system only when the last handle to it is closed. If for example a virus scanner, a backup or indexing application opens the temp file just before MySQL deletes it, the file will enter "delete pending" state. In this state,it is not possible to open the file , or create a file with the same name (CreateFile returns ERROR_ACCESS_DENED, posix open returns EACESS)
Fix (rather a cheap workarounf) is not to use temp-pool when working with temporary files- this will make filenames unique.
With this patch , temp- pool setting will be ignored on anything but Linux(the option only made sense for Linux since its invention anyway).
The problem here is that embedded server starts handle_thread manager
thread on mysql_library_init() does not stop it on mysql_library_end().
At shutdown, my_thread_global_end() waits for thread count to become 0,
but since we did not stop the thread it will give up after 5 seconds.
Solution is to move shutdown for handle_manager thread from kill_server()
(mysqld specific) to clean_up() that is used by both embedded and mysqld.
This patch also contains some refactorings - to avoid duplicate code,
start_handle_manager() and stop_handle_manager() functions are introduced.
Unused variables are eliminated. handle_manager does not rely on global
variable abort_loop anymore to stop (abort_loop is not set for embedded).
Note: Specifically on Windows and when using DBUG version of libmysqld,
the complete solution requires removing obsolete code my_thread_init()
from my_thread_var(). This has a side effect that a DBUG statement
after my_thread_end() can cause thread counter to be incremented, and
embedded will hang for some seconds. Or worse, my_thread_init() will
crash if critical sections have been deleted by the global cleanup
routine that runs in a different thread.
This patch also fixes and revert prior changes for Bug#38293

Root cause of the crash observed in Bug#38293 was bug in my_thread_init()

after rollback on master
When starting a transaction with a statement containing changes
to both transactional tables and non-transactional tables, the
statement is considered as non-transactional and is therefore
written directly to the binary log. This behaviour was present
in 5.0, and has propagated to 5.1.
If a trigger containing a change of a non-transactional table is
added to a transactional table, any changes to the transactional
table is "tainted" as non-transactional.
This patch solves the problem by removing the existing "hack" that
allows non-transactional statements appearing first in a transaction
to be written directly to the binary log. Instead, anything inside
a transaction is treaded as part of the transaction and not written
to the binary log until the transaction is committed.

sql/log.cc:
Changing commit logic in binlog_commit() to only commit when
committing a real transaction or committing a punch transaction.
A transaction could result in having an extra event after a query that
errored e.g because of a dup key. Such a query is rolled back in
innodb, as specified, but has not been in binlog.
It appeares that the binlog engine did not always register for a query
(statement) because the previous query had not reset at its statement
commit time. Because of that fact there was no roll-back to the
trx_data->before_stmt_pos position and a the pending event of the
errorred query could become flushed to the binlog file.
Fixed with deploying the reset of trx_data->before_stmt_pos at the end
of the query processing.

Updated MySQL time handling code to react correctly on UTC leap second additions.
MySQL functions that return the OS current time, like e.g. CURDATE(), NOW() etc
will return :59:59 instead of :59:60 or 59:61.
As a result the reader will receive :59:59 for 2 or 3 consecutive seconds
during the leap second.
This fix will not affect the values returned by UNIX_TIMESTAMP() for leap seconds.
But note that when converting the value returned by UNIX_TIMESTAMP() to broken
down time the correction of leap seconds will still be applied.
Note that this fix will make a difference *only* if the OS is specially configured
to return leap seconds from the OS time calls or when using a MySQL time zone
defintion that has leap seconds.
Even after this change date/time literals (or other broken down time
representations) with leap seconds (ending on :59:60 or 59:61) will still be
considered illegal and discarded by the server with an error or
a warning depending on the sql mode.
Added a test case to demonstrate the effect of the fix.

Several system variables did not behave like system variables should do.
When trying to SET them or use them in SELECT, they were reported as
"unknown system variable". But they appeared in SHOW VARIABLES.
This has been fixed by removing the "fixed_vars" array of variables
and integrating the variables into the normal system variables chain.
All of these variables do now behave as read-only global-only
variables. Trying to SET them tells they are read-only, trying to
SELECT the session value tells they are global only. Selecting the
global value works. It delivers the same value as SHOW VARIABLES.

When a CSV file contained comma separated elements
that were not enclosed in quotes, it was causing the
mysql server to crash.
The old algorithm that parsed the content of a row in
mysql 5.0 was assuming that the values of the fields
in a .CSV file will be enclosed in quotes and will be
separated by commas.
This was causing the old algorithm to fail when the
content of the file resembled the following
3,"sans quotes"
The CSV engine that is part of mysql 5.0 was expecting
the above to be
"3","sans quotes"
The above is just one example of where the engine was
failing for what would be recognized as a valid .CSV
file content otherwise.
The proposed fix changes the old algorithm being used
to parse rows from the .CSV file to handle two separate
cases
1) When the current field of the row is enclosed in quotes
2) When the current field of the row is not enclosed in
quotes

The function thd_security_context allocates memory on an unprotected MEM_ROOT if the
message length becomes longer than requested and the initial buffer memory needs to
be reallocated.
This patch fixes the design error by copying parts of the reallocated buffer
to the destination buffer. This works because the destination buffer isn't
owned by the String object and thus isn't freed when a new buffer is allocated.
Any new memory allocated by the String object is reclaimed when the object
is destroyed at the end of the function call.

missing after downgrade
Obsolete arc/ directory and view .frm file backup support
has been removed by the patch for bug 17823. However, that
bugfix caused a problem with "live downgrades" of the
server: if we rename some view 4 times under 5.1.29/5.0.72
and then try to rename it under 5.1.28/5.0.70 on the same
database, the server fails with a error:
query 'RENAME TABLE ... TO ...' failed: 6: Error on
delete of '....frm-0001' (Errcode: 2)
Also .frm file of that view may be lost (renamed to .frm~).
The server failed because it tried to rename latest 3
backup .frm files renaming the view: the server used an
integer value of the "revision" field of .frm file to
extract those file names. After the fix for bug 17823 those
files were not created/maintained any more, however the
"revision" field was incremented as usual. So, the server
failed renaming non existent files.
This fix solves the problem by removing the support for
"revision" .frm file field:
1. New server silently ignores existent "revision" fields
in old .frm files and never write it down;
2. Old server assumes, that missing "revision" field in new
.frm files means default value of 0.
3. Accordingly to the fix for bug 17823 the new server
drops arc/ directory on alter/rename view, so after
"live downgrade" old server begins maintenance of the
arc/ directory from scratch without conflicts with .frm
files.

status
The problem appears to be a race condition, when service is being
stopped right after startup. We set the service status to SERVICE_RUNNING
way too early it cannot yet handle stop requests - initialization has
not finished and hEventShutdown that signals server to stop is not yet
created. If somebody issues "net stop MySQL" at this time, MySQL is not
informed about the stop and continues to run as usual, while
NTService::ServiceMain() stucks forever waiting for mysql's "main" thread
to finish.
Solution is to remain in SERVICE_START_PENDING status until after server
initialization is fully complete and only then change the status to
SERVICE_RUNNING. In SERVICE_START_PENDING we do not accept service control
requests, i.e it is not possible to stop service in that time.

With fix for bug 25951 index hints are ignored for fulltext
searches, as handling of fulltext indexes is different from
handling regular indexes. Meaning it is not possible to
implement true index hints support for fulltext indexes within
the scope of current fulltext architecture.
The problem is that prior to fix for bug 25951, some useful
index hints still could be given for boolean mode searches.
This patch implements special index hints support for fulltext
indexes with the following characteristics:
- all index hints are still ignored for NLQ mode searches -
it cannot work without an index;
- for 5.1 and up index hints FOR ORDER BY and FOR GROUP BY are
still ignored for fulltext indexes;
- boolean mode searches honor USE/FORCE/IGNORE INDEX hints;
- as opposed to index hints for regular indexes, index hints
for fulltext BOOLEAN mode searches affect the usage of the
index for the whole query.
