d92a7cb76a Bug#14521864: MYSQL 5.1 TO 5.5 BUGS PARTITIONING
Due to an internal change in the server code in between 5.1 and 5.5
(wl#2649) the hash function used in KEY partitioning changed
for numeric and date/time columns (from binary hash calculation
to character based hash calculation).

Also enum/set changed from latin1 ci based hash calculation to
binary hash between 5.1 and 5.5. (bug#11759782).

These changes makes KEY [sub]partitioned tables on any of
the affected column types incompatible with 5.5 and above,
since the calculation of partition id differs.

Also since InnoDB asserts that a deleted row was previously
read (positioned), the server asserts on delete of a row that
is in the wrong partition.

The solution for this situation is:

1) The partitioning engine will check that delete/update will go to the
partition the row was read from and give an error otherwise, consisting
of the rows partitioning fields. This will avoid asserts in InnoDB and
also alert the user that there is a misplaced row. A detailed error
message will be given, including an entry to the error log consisting
of both table name, partition and row content (PK if exists, otherwise
all partitioning columns).

2) A new optional syntax for KEY () partitioning in 5.5 is allowed:
[SUB]PARTITION BY KEY [ALGORITHM = N] (list_of_cols)
Where N = 1 uses the same hashing as 5.1 (Numeric/date/time fields uses
binary hashing, ENUM/SET uses charset hashing) N = 2 uses the same
hashing as 5.5 (Numeric/date/time fields uses charset hashing,
ENUM/SET uses binary hashing). If not set on CREATE/ALTER it will
default to 2.

This new syntax should probably be ignored by NDB.

3) Since there is a demand for avoiding scanning through the full
table, during upgrade the ALTER TABLE t PARTITION BY ... command is
considered a no-op (only .frm change) if everything except ALGORITHM
is the same and ALGORITHM was not set before, which allows manually
upgrading such table by something like:
ALTER TABLE t PARTITION BY KEY ALGORITHM = 1 () or
ALTER TABLE t PARTITION BY KEY ALGORITHM = 2 ()

4) Enhanced partitioning with CHECK/REPAIR to also check for/repair
misplaced rows. (Also works for ALTER TABLE t CHECK/REPAIR PARTITION)

CHECK FOR UPGRADE:
If the .frm version is < 5.5.3
and uses KEY [sub]partitioning
and an affected column type
then it will fail with an message:
KEY () partitioning changed, please run:
ALTER TABLE `test`.`t1` PARTITION BY KEY ALGORITHM = 1 (a)
PARTITIONS 12
(i.e. current partitioning clause, with the addition of
ALGORITHM = 1)

CHECK without FOR UPGRADE:
if MEDIUM (default) or EXTENDED options are given:
Scan all rows and verify that it is in the correct partition.
Fail for the first misplaced row.

REPAIR:
if default or EXTENDED (i.e. not QUICK/USE_FRM):
Scan all rows and every misplaced row is moved into its correct
partitions.

5) Updated mysqlcheck (called by mysql_upgrade) to handle the
new output from CHECK FOR UPGRADE, to run the ALTER statement
instead of running REPAIR.

This will allow mysql_upgrade (or CHECK TABLE t FOR UPGRADE) to upgrade
a KEY [sub]partitioned table that has any affected field type
and a .frm version < 5.5.3 to ALGORITHM = 1 without rebuild.

Also notice that if the .frm has a version of >= 5.5.3 and ALGORITHM
is not set, it is not possible to know if it consists of rows from
5.1 or 5.5! In these cases I suggest that the user does:
(optional)
LOCK TABLE t WRITE;
SHOW CREATE TABLE t;
(verify that it has no ALGORITHM = N, and to be safe, I would suggest
backing up the .frm file, to be used if one need to change to another
ALGORITHM = N, without needing to rebuild/repair)
ALTER TABLE t <old partitioning clause, but with ALGORITHM = N>;
which should set the ALGORITHM to N (if the table has rows from
5.1 I would suggest N = 1, otherwise N = 2)
CHECK TABLE t;
(here one could use the backed up .frm instead and change to a new N
and run CHECK again and see if it passes)
and if there are misplaced rows:
REPAIR TABLE t;
(optional)
UNLOCK TABLES;

5dbcff9b9c BUG#11759349 - 51655: CREATE TABLE IN MEMORY ENGINE DOESN'T STORE
CREATE_TIME IN INFORMATION_SC

It was impossible to determine MEMORY table creation time,
since it wasn't stored/exposed.

With this patch creation time is saved and it is available via
I_S.TABLES.CREATE_TIME.

Note: it was decided that additional analysis is required before
implementing UPDATE_TIME. Thus this patch doesn't store UPDATE_TIME.

4bdfcf59f2 Post push test fix for show_check.test.
Fix for bug#45740 introduced test case using SHOW TABLE STATUS against a Memory table using latin1 character in table name.
The test failed on Windows and FreeBSD due to a difference in the value for Avg_row_length.
The average row length normally depends on the values for data length and row count. According to the 5.5 manual data length is approximate with Memory tables.
With MyISAM and InnoDB the Avg_row_length is the same on Windows and Solaris.
The solution implemented by this patch is to mask out the value for Avg_row_length, as it may vary when using Memory tables.

8e3dde5e2f Fix for Bug#45730 - Test case disabled in show_check.test due to WL#1324.
Enabled test snippet for bug 4374, tested on Mac OS X 10.6 as well as Solaris.
Moved test snippet to a different place in the file, in order to avoid having
to save and restore "SET NAMES" setting. New surroundings expect latin1, as is
used in the testsnippet.

An extra copy of the commented test snippet is removed, a comment is added,
SQL keywords are converted to uppercase, and engine name "heap" is updated to
"Memory".

Also added Copyright statement and a notice about the file's encoding(s).

185e189da3 Bug#57306 SHOW PROCESSLIST does not display string literals well.
Problem: Extended characters outside of ASCII range where not displayed
properly in SHOW PROCESSLIST, because thd_info->query was always sent as
system_character_set (utf8). This was wrong, because query buffer
is never converted to utf8 - it is always have client character set.

Fix: sending query buffer using query character set

  @ sql/sql_class.cc
  @ sql/sql_class.h
    Introducing a new class CSET_STRING, a LEX_STRING with character set.
    Adding set_query(&CSET_STRING)
    Adding reset_query(), to use instead of set_query(0, NULL).

  @ sql/event_data_objects.cc
    Using reset_query()

  @ sql/log_event.cc
    Using reset_query()
    Adding charset argument to set_query_and_id().

  @ sql/slave.cc
    Using reset_query().

  @ sql/sp_head.cc
    Changing backing up and restore code to use CSET_STRING.

  @ sql/sql_audit.h
    Using CSET_STRING.
    In the "else" branch it's OK not to use
    global_system_variables.character_set_client.
    &my_charset_latin1, which is set in constructor, is fine
    (verified with Sergey Vojtovich).

  @ sql/sql_insert.cc
    Using set_query() with proper character set: table_name is utf8.

  @ sql/sql_parse.cc
    Adding character set argument to set_query_and_id().
    (This is the main point where thd->charset() is stored
     into thd->query_string.cs, for use in "SHOW PROCESSLIST".)
    Using reset_query().

  @ sql/sql_prepare.cc
    Storing client character set into thd->query_string.cs.

  @ sql/sql_show.cc
    Using CSET_STRING to fetch and send charset-aware query information
    from threads.

  @ storage/myisam/ha_myisam.cc
    Using set_query() with proper character set: table_name is utf8.

54c5e7c88f Bug #55498 SHOW CREATE TRIGGER takes wrong type of metadata lock
The first problem was that SHOW CREATE TRIGGER took a stronger metadata
lock than required. This caused the statement to be blocked when it was
not needed. For example, LOCK TABLE WRITE in one connection would block
SHOW CREATE TRIGGER in another connection.

Another problem was that a SHOW CREATE TRIGGER statement issued inside
a transaction did not release its metadata locks at the end of the
statement execution. This happened even if SHOW CREATE TRIGGER is an
information statement. The consequence was that SHOW CREATE TRIGGER
was able to block other connections from accessing the table
(e.g. using ALTER TABLE).

This patch fixes the problem by changing SHOW CREATE TRIGGER to take
a MDL_SHARED_HIGH_PRIO metadata lock similar to what is already done
for SHOW CREATE TABLE. The patch also changes SHOW CREATE TRIGGER to
explicitly release any metadata locks taken by the statement after
it completes.

Test case added to show_check.test.

d3d459a72c Bug #52593 SHOW CREATE TABLE is blocked if table is locked
for write by another connection

The problem was that if a table was locked in one connection by
LOCK TABLES ... WRITE, REPAIR TABLE or OPTIMIZE TABLE, SHOW CREATE
TABLE from another connection would be blocked. As SHOW CREATE TABLE
only reads metadata about the table, such blocking is not needed.

The problem was that when SHOW CREATE TABLE tried to get a metadata
lock on the table in order to open it, it used the wrong type of
metadata lock request. It used MDL_SHARED_READ which is used when
the intent is to read both table metadata and table data. Instead
it should have used MDL_SHARED_HIGH_PRIO which signifies an intent
to only read metadata.

This patch fixes the problem by making sure SHOW CREATE TABLE uses
the MDL_SHARED_HIGH_PRIO metadata lock request type when trying to
open the table. The patch also fixes a similar problem with the
mysql_list_fields API call.

Test case added to show_check.test.

warning message.

A number of test result files have been changed as a
