This patch adds support for SYS_REFCURSOR (a weakly typed cursor)
for both sql_mode=ORACLE and sql_mode=DEFAULT.
Works as a regular stored routine variable, parameter and return value:
- can be passed as an IN parameter to stored functions and procedures
- can be passed as an INOUT and OUT parameter to stored procedures
- can be returned from a stored function
Note, strongly typed REF CURSOR will be added separately.
Note, to maintain dependencies easier, some parts of sql_class.h
and item.h were moved to new header files:

class Sp_rcontext_handler and its descendants
The implementation consists of the following parts:
- A new class sp_cursor_array deriving from Dynamic_array
- A new class Statement_rcontext which contains data shared
between sub-statements of a compound statement.
It has a member m_statement_cursors of the sp_cursor_array data type,
as well as open cursor counter. THD inherits from Statement_rcontext.
- A new data type handler Type_handler_sys_refcursor in plugins/type_cursor/
It is designed to store uint16 references -
positions of the cursor in THD::m_statement_cursors.
- Type_handler_sys_refcursor suppresses some derived numeric features.
When a SYS_REFCURSOR variable is used as an integer an error is raised.
- A new abstract class sp_instr_fetch_cursor. It's needed to share
the common code between "OPEN cur" (for static cursors) and
"OPER cur FOR stmt" (for SYS_REFCURSORs).
- New sp_instr classes:
* sp_instr_copen_by_ref - OPEN sys_ref_curor FOR stmt;
* sp_instr_cfetch_by_ref - FETCH sys_ref_cursor INTO targets;
* sp_instr_cclose_by_ref - CLOSE sys_ref_cursor;
* sp_instr_destruct_variable - to destruct SYS_REFCURSOR variables when
the execution goes out of the BEGIN..END block
where SYS_REFCURSOR variables are declared.
- New methods in LEX:
* sp_open_cursor_for_stmt - handles "OPEN sys_ref_cursor FOR stmt".
* sp_add_instr_fetch_cursor - "FETCH cur INTO targets" for both
static cursors and SYS_REFCURSORs.
* sp_close - handles "CLOSE cur" both for static cursors and SYS_REFCURSORs.
- Changes in cursor functions to handle both static cursors and SYS_REFCURSORs:
* Item_func_cursor_isopen
* Item_func_cursor_found
* Item_func_cursor_notfound
* Item_func_cursor_rowcount
- A new system variable @@max_open_cursors - to limit the number
of cursors (static and SYS_REFCURSORs) opened at the same time.
Its allowed range is [0-65536], with 50 by default.
- A new virtual method Type_handler::can_return_bool() telling
if calling item->val_bool() is allowed for Items of this data type,
or if otherwise the "Illegal parameter for operation" error should be raised
at fix_fields() time.
- New methods in Sp_rcontext_handler:
* get_cursor()
* get_cursor_by_ref()
- A new class Sp_rcontext_handler_statement to handle top level statement
wide cursors which are shared by all substatements.
- A new virtual method expr_event_handler() in classes Item and Field.
It's needed to close (and make available for a new OPEN)
unused THD::m_statement_cursors elements which do not have any references
any more. It can happen in various moments in time, e.g.
* after evaluation parameters of an SQL routine
* after assigning a cursor expression into a SYS_REFCURSOR variable
* when leaving a BEGIN..END block with SYS_REFCURSOR variables
* after setting OUT/INOUT routine actual parameters from formal
parameters.
Promote the last few SQL-inaccessible replication options (command line
or `mariadb.cnf`) as these GLOBAL read-only system variables:

Side effect: The latter two options changed from no argument
to optional argument. Quote `include/my_getopt.h`:
> It should be noted that for historical reasons variables with the

> be taken if the code is refactored.

The purpose of this commit is to ensure that creation and changes of
temporary tables are properly and predicable logged to the binary
log. It also fixes some bugs where ROW logging was used in MIXED mode,
when STATEMENT would be a better (and expected) choice.
In this comment STATEMENT stands for logging to binary log in
STATEMENT format, MIXED stands for MIXED binlog format and ROW for ROW
binlog format.
New rules for logging of temporary tables
- CREATE of temporary tables are now by default binlogged only if
STATEMENT binlog format is used. If it is binlogged, 1 is stored in
TABLE_SHARE->table_creation_was_logged. The user can change this
behavior by setting create_temporary_table_binlog_formats to
MIXED,STATEMENT in which case the create is logged in statement
format also in MIXED mode (as before).
- Changes to temporary tables are only binlogged if and only if
the CREATE was logged. The logging happens under STATEMENT or MIXED.
If binlog_format=ROW, temporary table changes are not binlogged. A
temporary table that are changed under ROW are marked as 'not up to
date in binlog' and no future row changes are logged. Any usage of
this temporary table will force row logging of other tables in any
future statements using the temporary table to be row logged.
- DROP TEMPORARY is binlogged only of the CREATE was binlogged.
Changes done:
- Row logging is forced for any statement using temporary tables that
are not up to date in the binary log.
(Before the row logging was forced if the user has a temporary table)
- If there is any changes to the temporary table that is not binlogged,
the table is marked as not up to date.
- TABLE_SHARE->table_creation_was_logged has a new definition for
temporary tables:
0 Table creating was not logged to binary log
1 Table creating was logged to binary log and table is up to date.
2 Table creating was logged to binary log but some changes where
not logged to binary log.
Table is not up to date in binary log is defined as value 0 or 2.
- If a multi-table-update or multi-table-delete fails then
all updated temporary tables are marked as not up to date.
- Enforce row logging if the query is using temporary tables
that are not up to date.
Before row logging was enforced if the user had any
temporary tables.
- When dropping temporary tables use IF EXISTS. This ensures
that slave will not stop if it had crashed and lost the
temporary tables.
- Remove comment and version from DROP /*!4000 TEMPORARY.. generated when
a connection closes that has open temporary tables. Added 'generated by
server' at the end of the DROP.
Bugs fixed:
- When using temporary tables with commands that forced row based,
like INSERT INTO temporary_table VALUES (UUID()), this was never
logged which causes the temporary table to be inconsistent on
master and slave.
- Used binlog format is now clearly defined. It is now only depending
on the current binlog_format and the tables used.
Before it was depending on the user had ANY temporary tables and
the state of 'current_stmt_binlog_format' set by previous queries.
This also caused temporary tables to be logged to binary log in
some cases.
- CREATE TABLE t1 LIKE not_logged_temporary_table caused replication
to stop.
- Rename of not binlogged temporary tables where binlogged to binary log
which caused replication to stop.
Changes in behavior:
- By default create_temporary_table_binlog_formats=STATEMENT, which
means that CREATE TEMPORARY is not logged to binary log under MIXED
binary logging. This can be changed by setting
create_temporary_table_binlog_formats to MIXED,STATEMENT.
- Using temporary tables that was not logged to the binary log will
cause any query using them for updating other tables to be logged in
ROW format. Before all queries was logged in ROW format if the user had
any temporary tables, even if they were not used by the query.
- Generated DROP TEMPORARY TABLE is now always using IF EXISTS and
has a "generated by server" comment in the binary log.
The consequences of the above is that manipulations of a lot of rows
through temporary tables will by default be be slower in mixed mode.
For example:

By default this will create a huge entry in the binary log, compared
to just a few hundred bytes in statement mode. However the change in
this commit will make usage of temporary tables more reliable and
predicable and is thus worth it. Using statement mode or
create_temporary_table_binlog_formats can be used to avoid this issue.

Resize the types and widths of SHOW REPLICA STATUS
(technically `INFORMATION_SCHEMA.SLAVE_STATUS`)
columns to better match their possible values
In case of intentionally but absurdly long lists,
text columns that list an uncapped number of elements
have expanded to accept as many bytes as we could support.
Particularly, the first-gen `Replicate_` filters were
incorrectly typed as singlular `Name()`s during MDEV-33526.
Under `Name`s’ 64-char limit, they could overflow
(read: truncate) even before their lengths got absurd.
In response to `‘MAX_SLAVE_ERRMSG’ was not declared in this scope` in
Embedded builds, a new `#ifdef HAVE_REPLICATION` guard wraps
`slave_status_info` to skip this unused data in Replication-less builds.
For testing, this commit forward-ports a modified cherry-pick of #3795
(the latter targets our oldest maintained LTS as part of MDEV-35948).

The functions MY_CHARSET_HANDLER::caseup() and MY_CHARSET_HANDLER::casedn()
in their virtual imlementations do "const char *end= src + srclen"
in the very beginning. Therefore src cannot be NULL to avoid
"UBSAN: SUMMARY: UndefinedBehaviorSanitizer: nullptr-with-offset".
Adding DBUG_ASSERT(src != NULL) into all virtual implementations,
to catch this problem in regular Debug builds (without UBSAN).
Fixing Master_info_index::get_master_info() to check connection_name->str.
If it is NULL then passing empty_clex_str into IdentBufferCasedn
instead of *connection_name.
innodb_log_file_mmap: Use a constant documentation string that
refers to persistent memory also when it is not available in the build.
HAVE_INNODB_MMAP: Remove, and unconditionally enable this code.
log_mmap(): On 32-bit systems, ensure that the size fits in 32 bits.
log_t::resize_start(), log_t::resize_abort(): Only handle memory-mapping
if HAVE_PMEM is defined. The generic memory-mapped interface is only for
reading the log in recovery. Writable memory mappings are only for
persistent memory, that is, Linux file systems with mount -o dax.

This commit updates default memory allocations size used with MEM_ROOT
objects to minimize the number of calls to malloc().
Changes:
- Updated MEM_ROOT block sizes in sql_const.h
- Updated MALLOC_OVERHEAD to also take into account the extra memory
allocated by my_malloc()
- Updated init_alloc_root() to only take MALLOC_OVERHEAD into account as
buffer size, not MALLOC_OVERHEAD + sizeof(USED_MEM).
- Reset mem_root->first_block_usage if and only if first block was used.
- Increase MEM_ROOT buffers sized used by my_load_defaults, plugin_init,
Create_tmp_table, allocate_table_share, TABLE and TABLE_SHARE.
This decreases number of malloc calls during queries.
- Use a small buffer for THD->main_mem_root in THD::THD. This avoids
multiple malloc() call for new connections.
I tried the above changes on a complex select query with 12 tables.
The following shows the number of extra allocations that where used
to increase the size of the MEM_ROOT buffers.
Original code:
- Connection to MariaDB: 9 allocations
- First query run: 146 allocations
- Second query run: 24 allocations
Max memory allocated for thd when using with heap table: 61,262,408
Max memory allocated for thd when using Aria tmp table: 419,464
After changes:
Connection to MariaDB: 0 allocations
- First run: 25 allocations
- Second run: 7 allocations
Max memory allocated for thd when using with heap table: 61,347,424
Max memory allocated for thd when using Aria table: 529,168
The new code uses slightly more memory, but avoids memory fragmentation
and is slightly faster thanks to much fewer calls to malloc().

Heap tables are allocated blocks to store rows according to
my_default_record_cache (mapped to the server global variable
read_buffer_size).
This causes performance issues when the record length is big
(> 1000 bytes) and the my_default_record_cache is small.
Changed to instead split the default heap allocation to 1/16 of the
allowed space and not use my_default_record_cache anymore when creating
the heap. The allocation is also aligned to be just under a power of 2.
For some test that I have been running, which was using record length=633,
the speed of the query doubled thanks to this change.
Other things:
- Fixed calculation of max_records passed to hp_create() to take
into account padding between records.
- Updated calculation of memory needed by heap tables. Before we
did not take into account internal structures needed to access rows.
- Changed block sized for memory_table from 1 to 16384 to get less
fragmentation. This also avoids a problem where we need 1K
to manage index and row storage which was not counted for before.
- Moved heap memory usage to a separate test for 32 bit.
- Allocate all data blocks in heap in powers of 2. Change reported
memory usage for heap to reflect this.

With MDEV-34915 adjusting the mtr output of session
variables to be in order, the original variable omission for
x86_32 (added by MDEV-31609 - e0b6db2) is no longer required.
When strict mode is enabled, all warnings during `INSERT` are
converted to errors regardless of their actual severity.
`WARN_SORTING_ON_TRUNCATED_LENGTH` is not considered severe enough
to be elevated to the ERROR level, and this commit fixes that
MDEV-27277 added warnings on truncation during sorting for SELECTs
but did not for DML operations. However, UPDATEs and DELETEs may also
perform sorting and thus produce warnings. This commit fixes that
During a query execution some sorting and grouping operations
on strings may be involved. System variable max_sort_length defines
the maximum number of bytes to use when comparing strings during
sorting/grouping. Thus, the comparable parts of strings may be less
than their actual size, so the results of the query may be not
sorted/grouped properly.
To indicate that some comparisons were done on a truncated lengths,
a new warning has been introduced with this commit.
When using the default innodb_log_buffer_size=2m, mariadb-backup --backup
would spend a lot of time re-reading and re-parsing the log. For reads,
it would be beneficial to memory-map the entire ib_logfile0 to the
address space (typically 48 bits or 256 TiB) and read it from there,
both during --backup and --prepare.
We will introduce the Boolean read-only parameter innodb_log_file_mmap
that will be OFF by default on most platforms, to avoid aggressive
read-ahead of the entire ib_logfile0 in when only a tiny portion would be
accessed. On Linux and FreeBSD the default is innodb_log_file_mmap=ON,
because those platforms define a specific mmap(2) option for enabling
such read-ahead and therefore it can be assumed that the default would
be on-demand paging. This parameter will only have impact on the initial
InnoDB startup and recovery. Any writes to the log will use regular I/O,
except when the ib_logfile0 is stored in a specially configured file system
that is backed by persistent memory (Linux "mount -o dax").
We also experimented with allowing writes of the ib_logfile0 via a
memory mapping and decided against it. A fundamental problem would be
unnecessary read-before-write in case of a major page fault, that is,
when a new, not yet cached, virtual memory page in the circular
ib_logfile0 is being written to. There appears to be no way to tell
the operating system that we do not care about the previous contents of
the page, or that the page fault handler should just zero it out.
Many references to HAVE_PMEM have been replaced with references to
HAVE_INNODB_MMAP.
The predicate log_sys.is_pmem() has been replaced with
log_sys.is_mmap() && !log_sys.is_opened().
Memory-mapped regular files differ from MAP_SYNC (PMEM) mappings in the
way that an open file handle to ib_logfile0 will be retained. In both
code paths, log_sys.is_mmap() will hold. Holding a file handle open will
allow log_t::clear_mmap() to disable the interface with fewer operations.
It should be noted that ever since
commit 685d958e38 (MDEV-14425)
most 64-bit Linux platforms on our CI platforms
(s390x a.k.a. IBM System Z being a notable exception) read and write
/dev/shm/*/ib_logfile0 via a memory mapping, pretending that it is
persistent memory (mount -o dax). So, the memory mapping based log
parsing that this change is enabling by default on Linux and FreeBSD
has already been extensively tested on Linux.
::log_mmap(): If a log cannot be opened as PMEM and the desired access
is read-only, try to open a read-only memory mapping.
xtrabackup_copy_mmap_snippet(), xtrabackup_copy_mmap_logfile():
Copy the InnoDB log in mariadb-backup --backup from a memory
mapped file.
Updated tests: cases with bugs or which cannot be run
with the cursor-protocol were excluded with
"--disable_cursor_protocol"/"--enable_cursor_protocol"
Fix for v.10.5
Several variables declared in mysqld.h appear to be old system variables
that have been left over after deprecation. Delete them using IDE
refactoring to automatically search for other uses. Most cases had no
other uses in the code.
slave_allow_batching had a test that was effectively unused, as the
result was only
-ERROR HY000: Unknown system variable 'slave_allow_batching'
so that was deleted as well.
Build and test still works without issue as expected.
All new code of the whole pull request, including one or several files
that are either new files or modified ones, are contributed under the
BSD-new license. I am contributing on behalf of my employer Amazon Web
Services.
Implement automatic creation of temporary accounts for SST and pass
account credentials to SST script via socket as opposed to environment
variables. Delete the user after the SST script returns,
Respect wsrep_sst_auth set by the adminitrator in case some additional
privilege grants are needed for particular SST method.
mysqldump SST requires significant change to make use of the new
automatic user generation facility. For now just make it compatible
by ignoring automatically generated user and rely only on wsrep_sst_auth
setting on the joiner node to keep backward compatibility.
Adapt mysqldump SST to automatic SST user generation changes:
- disable special treatment for mysqldump SST on donor
- make mysqldump SST script compatible with the new SST script
interface.
Differentiate user privileges for different SST methods:
- grant minimum required privileges for clone and xtrabackup SST
accounts
- grant all privileges to custom SST accounts as it is not known what
is needed.
- disable SST account generation for rsync SST since it is not needed.
MTR tests:
- add MTR tests for clone and xtrabackup SSTs without wsrep_sst_auth,
- add MTR test for testing masking of wsrep_sst_auth.
- don't attmept to restore original wsrep_sst_auth in MTR tests as it
is always masked.

- FLUSH GLOBAL STATUS now resets most global_status_vars.
At this stage, this is mainly to be used for testing.
- FLUSH SESSION STATUS added as an alias for FLUSH STATUS.
- FLUSH STATUS does not require any privilege (before required RELOAD).
- FLUSH GLOBAL STATUS requires RELOAD privilege.
- All global status reset moved to FLUSH GLOBAL STATUS.
- Replication semisync status variables are now reset by
FLUSH GLOBAL STATUS.
- In test cases, the only changes are:
- Replace FLUSH STATUS with FLUSH GLOBAL STATUS
- Replace FLUSH STATUS with FLUSH STATUS; FLUSH GLOBAL STATUS.
This was only done in a few tests where the test was using SHOW STATUS
for both local and global variables.
- Uptime_since_flush_status is now always provided, independent if
ENABLED_PROFILING is enabled when compiling MariaDB.
- @@global.Uptime_since_flush_status is reset on FLUSH GLOBAL STATUS
and @@session.Uptime_since_flush_status is reset on FLUSH SESSION STATUS.
- When connected, @@session.Uptime_since_flush_status is set to 0.
Remove alter_algorithm but keep the variable as no-op (with a warning).
The reasons for removing alter_algorithm are:
- alter_algorithm was introduced as a replacement for the
old_alter_table that was used to force the usage of the original
alter table algorithm (copy) in the cases where the new alter
algorithm did not work. The new option was added as a way to force
the usage of a specific algorithm when it should instead have made
it possible to disable algorithms that would not work for some
reason.
- alter_algorithm introduced some cases where ALTER TABLE would not
work without specifying the ALGORITHM=XXX option together with
ALTER TABLE.
- Having different values of alter_algorithm on master and slave could
cause slave to stop unexpectedly.
- ALTER TABLE FORCE, as used by mariadb-upgrade, would not always work
if alter_algorithm was set for the server.
- As part of the MDEV-33449 "improving repair of tables" it become
clear that alter- algorithm made it harder to provide a better and
more consistent ALTER TABLE FORCE and REPAIR TABLE and it would be
better to remove it.
This patch extends the timestamp from
2038-01-19 03:14:07.999999 to 2106-02-07 06:28:15.999999
for 64 bit hardware and OS where 'long' is 64 bits.
This is true for 64 bit Linux but not for Windows.
This is done by treating the 32 bit stored int as unsigned instead of
signed. This is safe as MariaDB has never accepted dates before the epoch
(1970).
The benefit of this approach that for normal timestamp the storage is
compatible with earlier version.
However for tables using system versioning we before stored a
timestamp with the year 2038 as the 'max timestamp', which is used to
detect current values. This patch stores the new 2106 year max value
as the max timestamp. This means that old tables using system
versioning needs to be updated with mariadb-upgrade when moving them
to 11.4. That will be done in a separate commit.
C/C 3.4 disables mysql_old_password by default, so
add an option for the `connect` command to support specifying
allowed authentication plugins (MARIADB_OPT_RESTRICTED_AUTH).
use it to enable mysql_old_password when needed for testing
Reset the connection_name to contain a null string, if the pointer
points to the same space as that of the system variable
default_master_connection.
We do this because the system variable may be updated which could free
the pointer and create a new one, causing use-after-free for
re-execution of prepared statements and stored procedures where the
LEX may be reused.
This allows connection_name to be set again be to the system variable
pointer in the next call of this function (see earlier in this
function), after any possible updates to the system variable.
C/C 3.4 disables mysql_old_password by default, so
add an option for the `connect` command to support specifying
allowed authentication plugins (MARIADB_OPT_RESTRICTED_AUTH).
