In the error case of THD::register_slave(), there is undefined
behavior of Slave_info si because it is allocated via malloc()
(my_malloc), and cleaned up via delete().
This patch makes these consistent by switching si's cleanup
to use my_free.
Changes:
- To detect automatic strlen() I removed the methods in String that
uses 'const char *' without a length:

- Binary_string(const char *str)

All usage of append(const char*) is changed to either use

of overflows.

inherited from the parent. I added override to these.
- Fixed Ordered_key::print() to preallocate needed buffer. Old code could
case memory overruns.
- Simplified some loops when adding char * to a String with delimiters.
Since the client host can be extracted from the network connection, it can
always be printed. This makes it easier to find out where a slave is
replicating from. It could also be used to automatically discover slaves
that are replicating from a master.
The patches features an optional shutdown behavior to hold on until
after all connected slaves have been sent the last binlogged event.
The connected slave is one whose START SLAVE has been acknowledged and
that was not stopped since that though it could be technically
reconnecting in background.
The solution therefore disallows killing the dump thread until is has
found EOF of the latest binlog file. It is up to the shutdown
requester (DBA) to set up a sufficiently large shutdown timeout value
for shudown to wait patiently until lagging behind slaves have been
synchronized. On the other hand if a specific slave needs exclusion
from synchronization the DBA would have to stop it manually which
would terminate its dump thread.
`mysqladmin shutdown' is extended with a `--wait_for_all_slaves' option
which translates to `SHUTDOW WAIT FOR ALL SLAVES' sql query
to enable the feature on the client side.
The patch also performs a small refactoring of the server shutdown
around close_connections() to introduce kill thread phases which
are two as of current.
slave_list was used to provide data for SHOW SLAVE HOSTS and
Slaves_connected status variable.
Introduced binlog_dump_thread_count which is exposed via Slaves_connected
(replaces slave_list.records).
Store Slave_info on THD and access it by iterating server_threads

Problem: There are two variables involved in this issue,
rpl_status and rpl_role_type. The former is an array containing
the description of the possible values for the latter.
rpl_status is declared as an enumeration and is stored in a 4
bytes integer. On the other hand, my_getopt, reads enum values
into a ulong:
*(ulong*)value= arg;
This is overwriting the memory used for rpl_role_type,
corrupting the first entry in the array.
Fix: We fix this by re-declaring rpl_status as a ulong, so that it
has space to accommodate the value "parsed" in my_getopt .
Essentially, the problem is that safemalloc is excruciatingly
slow as it checks all allocated blocks for overrun at each
memory management primitive, yielding a almost exponential
slowdown for the memory management functions (malloc, realloc,
free). The overrun check basically consists of verifying some
bytes of a block for certain magic keys, which catches some
simple forms of overrun. Another minor problem is violation
of aliasing rules and that its own internal list of blocks
is prone to corruption.
Another issue with safemalloc is rather the maintenance cost
as the tool has a significant impact on the server code.
Given the magnitude of memory debuggers available nowadays,
especially those that are provided with the platform malloc
implementation, maintenance of a in-house and largely obsolete
memory debugger becomes a burden that is not worth the effort
due to its slowness and lack of support for detecting more
common forms of heap corruption.
Since there are third-party tools that can provide the same
functionality at a lower or comparable performance cost, the
solution is to simply remove safemalloc. Third-party tools

The removal of safemalloc also allows a simplification of the
malloc wrappers, removing quite a bit of kludge: redefinition
of my_malloc, my_free and the removal of the unused second
argument of my_free. Since free() always check whether the
supplied pointer is null, redudant checks are also removed.
Also, this patch adds unit testing for my_malloc and moves
my_realloc implementation into the same file as the other
memory allocation primitives.

This patch has effect on storage engines that rely on
ha_open() PSEA method being called under LOCK_open.
In particular:
1) NDB is broken and left unfixed. NDB relies on LOCK_open
being kept as part of ha_open(), since it uses auto-discovery.
While previously the NDB open code was race-prone, now
it simply fails on asserts.
2) HEAP engine had a race in ha_heap::open() when
a share for the same table could be added twice
to the list of shares, or a dangling reference to a share
stored in HEAP handler. This patch aims to address this
problem by 'pinning' the newly created share in the
internal HEAP engine share list until at least one
handler instance is created using that share.

- split the large critical section in open_table() that

- make check_if_table_exists() acquire LOCK_open internally.
- use thd->open_tables->s->version instead of thd->refresh_version to make sure that all tables in
thd->open_tables are in the same refresh series.

by increasing its open_count. This is necessary to
make sure that a newly created share doesn't disappear while
a HP_INFO object is being created to reference it.

in the heap share, make sure the open_count is not increased
twice.

The slave crashed while two threads: IO thread and user thread
raced for the same mutex (the append_buffer_lock protecting the
relay log's IO_CACHE). The IO thread was trying to flush the
cache, and for that was grabbing the append_buffer_lock.
However, the other thread was closing and reopening the relay log
when the IO thread tried to lock. Closing and reopening the log
includes destroying and reinitialising the IO_CACHE
mutex. Therefore, the IO thread tried to lock a destroyed mutex.
We fix this by backporting patch for BUG#50364 which fixed this
bug in mysql server 5.5+. The patch deploys missing
synchronization when flush_master_info is called and the relay
log is flushed by the IO thread. In detail the patch backports
revision (from mysql-trunk):
